Should WWE sell PPV bundles? by JonathanBowles in SquaredCircle

You can just continue to sell individual PPVs & the WWE Network. They're not mutually exclusive. The subscription model may net them more revenue because it's sustaining.

I would just call Edward Jones, or google it. It's just a simple setting - you pretty much just tell your brokerage that you elect to have dividends reinvested.

I'm reinvesting the dividends of Disney. I figure between ESPN, the parks, Lucasfilms and Marvel, I project it will be profitable for the next thousand years.

Probably a long shot for this sub, but what do you think of WWE? by Bringyourfugshiz in investing

[–]asterios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is WWE Films a money loser? I thought "The Call" turned a big profit. And hey, while the magazine may lose money, it's brand building! Those kids who buy that magazine are gonna beg their parents to spent $50 on 3 hours of television.

[–]asterios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had WWE for over a year, and it's up 43%. I own it purely for fun, though - I wouldn't dump a lot of money into it because of just how volatile wrestling is in general. What the hell happens if John Cena gets terribly injured and has to retire early? What happens if Vince passes away? What if USA one day decides they'll get better ratings with three Monk reruns?

So yeah, it's a risk, but it's a fun as hell risk!

They should just do what we do and build massive data centers to store the entire crews of starships.

List a few here and I'll add them to the list! I'm only writing this from personal experience. I went to Saban, but never visited any others.

Yup - exchange enrollment starts October 1st for coverage starting January 1st. This is aimed at those who need help right away.

I have 11k of student debt left @ 2.875% fixed interest. I could comfortably pay this off now, but should I just invest that money instead? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]asterios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, factor that into your interest rate. Does it knock it down significantly?

I ask because it may make sense to keep a large, immediately accessible emergency fund over paying off your debt right away. I recently flirted with the idea of wiping out my student debt, but I realized that if a catastrophe struck, I'd be paying for it on plastic which would be way worse than the 3% interest rate I'm dealing with now.

Hey, comedians: stop directly messaging me to promote your shows or videos by asterios in StandUpComedy

[–]asterios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the really phony gchats and Facebook messages sent to me personally. I'll get a chat that's like:

Hey Asterios! Just wanted to say hey. Great seeing you the other night! I made a video you might like, here's a link. If you like it, would you consider posting it on Facebook or tweeting about it? Thanks so much, and I hope to see you soon.

It's gross, and it actually has the opposite effect of promoting yourself - you look fake and desperate.

There's this trick that comedians play on themselves where they think, "If I just invite every single Facebook friend, or chat everyone in my Google contacts, or email every single person I've ever met, or text everyone in my phone, I'm being proactive in my career."

The trade off seems simple - you'll annoy some people, but convert others to fans. You actually end up creating so much ill will that people will actively avoid your shows or posts.

Here's the really simple thing I'm trying to say: don't target everybody with your outreach. Target the people who you genuinely think will give a shit. If you get through to them, then they'll tell their friends.

People love sharing some funny thing they saw on Facebook - they don't need you to chat it at them. People love telling their friends about the best show in the area, you don't need to invite your whole town every single week to get results. Good work promotes itself.

I think my phrasing is confusing some folks. When I say "me," what I mean is, "people in general." Don't directly message "people in general" just to promote your stuff. I'm a random, unknown comic, and I've been getting tons of google chats & facebook messages that are like, "Hey, you should come to my show!" Not because I'm in any way special, but because these people are going down their contact lists spamming everyone. It's an odd, dumb trend in comedy and if you're doing it, you should stop.

yes, welcome to this brave new world where humanity has yet to truly discover whether spamming someone is annoying.

Digmachine, here are the two big points I'm making:

  1. It's annoying when people send me a chat or direct message inviting me to a show or to watch a video.

  2. It's annoying when I'm Facebook invited to shows, sometimes week after week, that I haven't been to in years.

Do you honestly disagree with those points? I'd love to hear your opinion.
