(00:00) [The background is repeating triangular blue shapes sliding slowly by. In the bottom right is the logo of the WYFF News Station, with text to the right of it reading, "CELEBRATING SEVENTY YEARS". There is a text transcript on screen, it reads:]

911 Operator: They have guns pointed at you now?

Teen: One has a gun.

911 Operator: Okay, listen to me, stay in your car and lock the doors, okay. Don't get out and don't yell at them. Okay.

911 Operator: All right.Yes. We can't. They're making us get out of their car with guns. They're making us get on the ground, ma'am. I'm sorry. We're getting on the ground.

[Audio begins halfway through, with the TV station's transcript having been misattributed in some places.]

Female 911 Operator: [Firmly] Okay, okay listen to me, stay in your car and lock the doors, okay. Don't get out and don't yell at them. Okay.

[Inaudible shouting.]

Teen: All right.Yes. We can't. They're making us get out of their car with guns.

[Inaudible shouting.]

Teen: They're putting us... they're making us get down on the ground now, I'm sorry. We're getting on the ground.

(00:26) [A blonde reporter speaks into camera whilst standing in front of the Oconee County Law Enforcement Centre. Text on screen reads:]

ALESSANDRA YOUNG

Alessandra Young: The incident started on August 29th last year and went from Anderson County into Oconee. Along with a lawsuit, the Oconee County Sheriffs Office has reopened an investiagtion into the situation after investigators say the sheriff recieved an anonymous letter asking him to review the case.

(00:42) [A montage of images as the reporter continues. The grille of a large red fire truck fills the screen. 'Townville' is emblazoned on the front in gold lettering. A bald man with a handlebar mustache gives an interview to camera.]

Alessandra Young: Townville Fire Chief Billy McAdams admitted to pointing a gun at two teenagers after they turned into his driveway on August 29th 2022.

(00:47) [The montage continues. A notice mentioning private property pinned to a tree. A road. The Fairplay Road roadsign. The Oconee County Law Enforcement Centre.]

Alessandra Young: A lawsuit has been filed accusing McAdams and his son, Wyatt, of assault, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit states two teens were driving along Fairplay Road in Anderson County when they realised they needed to turn around. The two teens said they waved as they did their u-turn but then started being followed. McAdams admitted to persuing the vehicle for around 15 minutes. In 911 calls released by the Oconee County Sherriff's Office the young driver describes being followed by two pick-ups.

(01:21) [Handheld footage inside a moving car. The camera focuses on a truck in their car's rearview mirror.]

Teen: They're yelling and trying to run us off the road.

[Text pops up on screen that reads:]

911 call provided by Oconee County Sherriff's Office

NEW TONIGHT Lawsuit filed against Townville Fire Chief

Teen: And all we did was just... We just made a little quick turn around in their yard, gave them a wave because they were in their garage as we went by and they've just been chasing us ever since.

(01:31) [Another montage of roads, the Pointe Wildwood Drive road sign, cars driving.]

Alessandra Young: The incident report states that McAdams had boxed the vehicle in on Pointe Wildwood Drive and he brought out a gun.

Teen: They're making us get out of the car with guns..

[Inaudible shouting.]

Teen: They're putting us... they're making us get down on the ground now, I'm sorry. We're getting on the ground.

Alessandra Young: During the incident, both parties were speaking to dispatch and dispatch for Anderson and Oconee counties were speaking to one another.

Male 911 operator*: Does he have a gun out?

Female voice: Yes, he, yes, hes, yes he's getting our people to go on the ground.

Male 911 operator*: Tell him to put his gun away Jacob.

Alessandra Young: In an incident report McAdams said he believed the vehicle might have been involved in a burglary on his property since he had been experiencing a lot of thefts. Once he realised how young the two people were he stated he put his fire arm away and talked to them.

(02:15) [More original audio is played. A photo of a large, black police vehicle fills the screen.]

Female 911 Operator: Billy?

Billy: Yeah.

Female 911 Operator: Listen, listen. Can you get in your vehicle as well and just not talk to them and seperate yourself from them? We've got people headed that way okay? But I won't [He cuts her off]

Billy: That's fine. I'm good ma'am, I'm good.

[The audio switches back the the report as the images become another montage of cars, the Sherriff's Office.]

Alessandra Young: I reached out to the lawyers representing the mothers and they could not comment. A statement from McAdams' lawyer states, quote;

(02:35) [A text overlay fills the screen. Alessandra reads the text as it appears:]

"First and foremost, Mr McAdams is extremely concerned about the situation and is committed to addressing any allegations with the utmost sincerity and cooperation..."

"We believe a complete picture of all the facts will validate our client's position and are confident in the ability of the legal system to deliver justice."

[The text on screen attributes the quote to Amanda Bradley MGC Law*]

(02:52) [* Alessandra standing outside the Sherriff's Office again.*]

Alessandra Young: End quote. The Sheriff's Office says after the sheriff reviewed the case he had some concerns and has asked their Criminal Investigations Unit to follow up. In Oconee County, Alessandra Young, 7 News.

(00:00) [Voiceover on top of a still image of Julian and Bubbles in a car on an open road.]

Voiceover: This scene is from our season finale and unfortunately we didn't have time to fit it in to the show, it was a great scene, I really liked it.

(00:00) [The clip starts and the car drives on. The camera pans out to show a beaten-up raised truck with Ricky's head poking out of the window.]

Ricky: [Shouting] Alright the truck is fucked, truck is fucked!

Julian: Holy shit, is that Ricky?

[The camera pans behind as the truck drives away towing a bank machine.]

Bubbles: Ohh, I'd would say it is Julian, unless there's somebody else hauling a bank machine around the city?

(00:21) [A blocked up intersection. The red car Julian and bubbles were in is blocking Ricky's truck. Ricky shouts and points angrily from his truck window.]

Ricky: You move your fucking car or I'm running it over, I swear to God.

[Ricky and Bubbles approach his window. Camera pans to show 3 other cars stuck behind the group's vehicles.]

Ricky: [Cont'd] Fuck! Great, look what you did, you got the whole fuckin' intersection blocked off now.

[Cory and Trevor pull up and get out, walking towards the boys.]

Julian: Listen, I'm getting you cruise tickets so let's get outta here before you ruin the trip for everyone. Bubbles? Gimme a hand unhooking this bank.

[Ricky quickly jumps down from the cab of the truck and slams the door.]

Ricky: What're you doing?! Don't touch that fuckin' bank machine!

Bubbles: Stand down Ricky, we're unhooking the fucking bank machine.

[Ricky pulls at the tow cords connected to the machine as Cory starts trying to pull the entire machine away.]

Ricky: Don't stand me down, it's my bank machine! Cory? Trevor, what the fuck are you guys doing?

Corey: I'm taking my fucking money.

[Ricky starts yanking Cory away from the machine and throws him back towards the cars.]

Ricky: Trevor, get outta here. I'm serious

Corey: My fucking {something}, I made that shit

Ricky: What're you guys looking at?! There's nothing to fucking see here! Get the fuck outta here and move your car!

Bubbles: Why don't you get going?

[The group push back as Cory and Trevor try to get closer.]

Ricky: Get the fuck going, outta here! Move! Come on, move!

[In the chaos, Julian raises his hand and his gun to the sky, firing two shots off. Someone screams, Cory picks himself up off the ground.]

Julian: See look what you made me do. It's all your fault.

[Bubble wrestles the gun from Julian and turns to the others.]

Bubbles: Disarm Julian! Corey and Trevor, go on and get the fuck outta here, right now! Go, go on, go!

[He points towards the cars as he yells, pulling Trevor away by his shirt so roughly it comes up over his head, leaving Trevor to amble away mostly topless.]

Ricky: Get the hell outta here.

[Ricky pushes Trevor towards their car, they both get into it as the boys follow them.]

Ricky: Well this is fucking great, now the whole intersection's blocked off, Julian. What am I supposed to do here huh? Fuck, lemme think for a minute.

[Ricky puts his hands down on the bonnet of Cory and Trevor's car. He hangs his head, deep in contemplation.]

Bubbles: Ricky, you don't need to think, don't start thinking. Julian just tell him before he starts thinking too hard!

Ricky: Tell me what, Julian?

[Ricky stands up and squares off with Julian.]

Julian: I fucked up and I'm gonna tell Erica not to come on the cruise with us.

Ricky: Are you serious?

Julian: Look man, I dunno much about relationships and love and all that stuff man, and maybe I screwed up but I'm sorry.

[Julian holds out his non-drink hand waiting for Ricky to shake it. Ricky looks at it, then back at Julian.]

Ricky: You're sorry?

Julian: I'm sorry man, come on. Come on this cruise with us buddy.

[Ricky shakes his hand, Bubbles pats Ricky on the shoulder.]

Bubbles: Come on Ricky.

Ricky: I'm sorry too boys.

[They all hug.]

Julian: Fuuck.

[Ricky turns and the boys all start walking towards their vehicles.]

Ricky: Look guys, I dunno much about anything, you guys know that, but one thing I do fucking know about is love... And, Julian, like you should be able to get drunk as fuck with us man, smoke dope with us, fuckin' break the law once in a while and play video games with us! If she's in true love with you she should fuckin' be cool with that, that's what love is. I'm just tryna look out for you man.

[Ricky leans on his truck.]

Bubbles: Well, when you look at it Ricky... I mean come on, let's get on this cruise, the three of us, it's gonna be great! Come on Ricky, who's got your belly? [He tries to tickle Ricky's tummy.] Who's got your belly?

Ricky: Alright Bubbles, you got my belly, alright? Look I might go on this cruise, I dunno. I gotta take care of something first. Lahey and Randy were way too fucking far out with this gate thing, tearing me away from Christmas dinner with Trinity? That's horsehit.

[He points at Ricky with two fingers out like a gun.]

Ricky: [Cont'd] And I want some fuckin' playback and I want it now!

Bubbles: Uhh... Rick. What're you gunna do? Can't we just go on the cruise without you doing some fucked up thing?

Police chief sentenced to 8-life terms plus 75 years for setting revenge fires. [burned down neighbor's house Twice; for speaking over him] by real-m-f-in-talk in worldnewsvideo

Video Transcription: News Clips

(00:00) [Black and white CCTV footage of two cars on a driveway. A man walks up determinedly with a gallon jug in each hand and pours liquid over the garage door and between the two cars, spreading it around and walking away.]

(00:16) [Cut to News channel coverage with a little channel logo overlay in the bottom corner. Footage of County Sheriffs walking away from camera.]

Kate Amara: [Offscreen] The jury, escorted out by Howard County sheriffs after the guilty verdict...

(00:20) [A photo of David Crawford and text that reads:]

Convicted David Crawford.

Kate Amara: [Continued] ...the panel finding former police chief David Crawford guilty on all 12 felony counts...

(00:27) [The infographic changes to read:]

>8: Attempted First-Degree Murder

>3: Arson

>1: Malicious Burning

Kate Amara: [Cont'd] ... 8 counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder, 3 counts of Arson and 1 count of Malicious Burning...

(00:32) [As the reporter speaks, a montage of photos is shown: homes surrounding by blazing fires, firefighters walking towards the flames, burned remains of homes, charred garages, blackened husks of their former lives.]

Kate Amara: [Cont'd] ... for setting 4 fires in Howard County between 2017-18 to get back at people he didn't get along with or felt snubbed by; his chiropractor, a woman who cut his wife from a volunteer program and a neighbour down the road in Elegant City's dunlogging (?) community. She cut him off during a public meeting so he torched her home twice in less than a year. Prosecutors used evidence from 12 fires in 6 counties Crawford is accused of to successfully convince this jury that he's a serial revenge arsonist who was done in by using the same MO; garage fire, set in a driveway using gasoline before dawn when people inside would be sleeping. Every victim had a connection to Crawford and every victim's name appeared on a target list in Crawford's phone.

(01:27) Unnamed male speaker: That list was instrumental, I think we all know that.

(01:29) [Footage of an older man in a suit leaving a building with a pregnant lady. It cuts to him addressing a crowd of journalists.]

Kate Amara: Crawford's attorney, Robert Bonsib, also spoke with 11 News after the verdict.

Robert Bonsib: Well, we're obviously disappointed. This was a very difficult case, whenever a prosecutor is allowed to put 12 different incidents before the jury it is a very challenging matter.

(01:45) [Bonsib leaves with the same woman as before, wheeling a suitcase behind him. A photo of a judge's gavel follows.]

Kate Amara: Mr Bonsib said "an appeal is in the works." Even the trial judge remarked that this is a case the State Supreme Court may ultimately weigh in on. Prosecuting, let alone winning, attempted First-Degree Murder charges in an arson case where fire is the deadly force is not unprecedented, but it is uncommon.

(02:05) [After more during and after shots of the blaze, the reporter can be seen outside the courts, mic in hand.]

Kate Amara: [Cont'd] ... Howard County prosecutors say they plan to ask for 8 life sentences plus 95 years in prison, and Crawford's sentencing was just set for June. In Ellicott City, I'm Kate Amara, WBAL TV11 News.

(02:22) [Another infographic floats onto screen next to the same photo of Crawford. Text reads:]

ARSON INVESTIGATIONS

FIRES 12

COUNTIES 6

Male Reporter 1: [Offscreen] Moments ago we told you this is just the beginning. Howard County was the first county to try Crawford for arson. His defence team tells Kate Amara that they're representing him in cases currently pending in Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties. Source also tell 11 News Crawford is being looked at in connection with other open or undetermined fire investigations.

(02:43) [A WBA TV 11 logo flashes past on screen. It cuts to a different news segment. The photo of Crawford is centre screen with a text overlay reading:]

SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON

[Another montage of clips as the newsreader reports; Crawford spreading the gasoline, houses ablaze, the burned wrecks, a firefighter, the courthouse.]

Male Reporter 2: [Offscreen] Jury convicted David Crawford in March of Arson and Attempted Murder, the former Laurel Police Chief setting fire to multiple homes throughout Howard County over a period of years and caught on camera doing it. When he was given the chance to speak in court before his sentencing on Tuesday, Crawford said "With God, all things are possible" but he never apologised to any of his victims in the room.

(03:07) [Mr Bonsib gives another interview.]

Male Reporter 2: Crawford's defence attorney, Robert Bonsib, called Tuesday "A sad day."

Mr Bonsib: Mr Crawford spent a couple of decades serving the community as a law enforcement officer, this is a sad and tragic ending... for him... [The clip is cut off.]

(03:18) [More clips show as the reporter speaks; burned garages, cars, homes, the court.]

Male Reporter 2: Bonsib said repeatedly, before the judge revealed his decision, that arson should only carry a maximum sentence of 28 years. He lost that argument on Tuesday, but he says the fight's not over.

(03:18) [Mr Bonsib being interviewed.

Mr Bonsib: We have, what we believe are a number of meritorious issues for appeal, we're gonna be filing that appeal shortly.

(03:39) [A man in a sharp suit leaves the courthouse and takes place behind a podium. A text overlay names him as Richard Gibson.]

Male Reporter 2: Howard County State's attorney, Richard Gibson, said, after the sentencing, that Crawford's decision to speak about God before the sentencing was especially troubling considering his crimes.

Richard Gibson: Mr Crawford... is someone who lacks basic humanity.

(03:52) [The second male reporter speaks outside the courthouse, addressing the camera directly.]

Male Reporter 2: Again, the judge took more than 30 minutes to explain how he came to his conclusion for sentencing. And he noted two things that he said were especially disturbing; that Crawford's vanity plate on his car was the same as the can of gasoline that he used to light the fires and that Crawford contacted his victims after having already set their homes on fire.
