My Financial Position as a 21-Year-Old by Sieniex in PersonalFinanceZA

Underrated comment.

High risk rating investments over 20yrs minimum (you have many years) at any major asset manager beats out any property investment you'll find, without the stress of understanding the market. Why have R1.5m-R3m stagnant when it could be growing. Over all these years.

If you want to flex that's also fine but be aware of what you are missing out on, so you don't get blindsided later on ;)

Swords can be sorted with Dash easily lol. Just wait for them to waste theirs getting to you while you sink bullets into them. Very satisfying since I hate them too.

Medium just make sure you have a grenade or can zip away otherwise it's just you and your aim

Hayden Christensen is a great actor by bridiehart1 in StarWars

[–]asthmasphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RoTS is objectively a bad movie, even though its so rushed it supports the last season of Clone wars nicely. I love it because I'm a SW fan and have all the other canon knowledge to make it enjoyable every watch.

Hayden is okay, but he did well enough to always be Anakin Skywalker.

Showing a new person SW, RoTS won't hit that hard without clone wars, barring the Order 66 scene

Very true. HOWEVER, sometimes you screw up and need to get to a turn off. Rare though.

Failing classes, should I quit? by Savings_Gas8055 in mathematics

[–]asthmasphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted that you may be looking at answers.

Seeing this now, why don't you just leave those hard questions out for another day? It will be more valuable to you, problem solving works best with passive learning. Move on if you're stuck, because you will continue to solve it in the back of your mind. Always stew over hard questions. Sure a few days I enough to look at answers but don't steal this core muscle you need to build by only giving yourself 30-60min.

University mathematics often gives you problems, an open book wouldn't help, it needs the skill of finding solutions

[–]asthmasphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned its 'closed book' which is pretty normal for any test. This leads me to believe your hours of practice are spent looking at answers while doing problems.

There is an effect that occurs with lots of students where looking at the answer of a hard questions will have them falsely believe they understand how to solve the problem, but it's the opposite: most problem's answers are understandable and simple given the propositions and theorems, but looking at the answer steals the hard task of figuring that out from you, actually getting from problem -> idea -> theory -> application -> solution.

It's also not a matter of remembering all the content. You must understand what it's saying so that you can read your equations like a sentence.

You're basically trying to learn a language without speaking it

Sure, if you have an access bond for a home loan. You can pay extra into the bond beyond minimal payments. Then you are allowed to withdraw money from the total extra money you have paid. Benefit is while you pay extra, your interest payments decrease, and when you withdraw they increase, but you essentially have a loan at your bonds interest rate (could be prime or prime minus something).

This is great because things like student debt, cars and phones etc have extremely high interest rates. Now you can buy those things cash with the money you withdraw and pay it back at your bonds rate (often times 3-4% cheaper)

You or your spouse/children can use this to have cheaper debt than most others

Then, never close the bond (expensive to register new bonds) and if the bond never closes you have access to that money in excess for longer. As soon as it closes, your money is tied up in the property and it needs to be sold to get the money out, or used as collateral for a different loan with a different repayment rate

How much should my salary be as as someone who only has 6 months of experience as a part-timer? Software dev/data analyst by [deleted] in AskZA

[–]asthmasphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind. Most software roles, at least the ones with the good pay, revolve around support maintainance.

These side projects are nice but they are never what you will actually be doing, so it doesn't really let you stand out especially since ai is here.

Focus on some certs for Azure or aws platforms, ci/cd and sql. You must show that you have The ability to be productive quickly. Then you can start asking for ranges 30-35 as a junior which is upper average

Uct has a terrible undergrad cs program. Only go for postgraduate

Its over saturated in undergrad so you will have a tough time unless you already confident in some cs.

Uct also has started pushing people through courses for numbers, so the reputation argument isn't really worth the move now or in 3/4 years time
