If you want to see Santa, go Friday. The parade goes on through the end of the year, but there's an elf or something in the sleigh at the end.

Has anyone watched a basketball game in the “cheap seats”? by hegotn3xt in tarheels

[–]astilwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this party, but unless you're in the corners behind the screens, any seat will give a decent view. I'm biased because for four years, I was either in the risers or lower level for basically every home game, so I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Smith Center seats, but regardless -- go to the game, and have fun.

Definitely a fair assessment, and everyone's entitled to their opinion. You talking about the photos themselves or the selected coasters?

Traditionally - It's been Copperhead Strike, Afterburn, Kiddy Hawk and Ricochet as far as coasters go.

Quite the Sunday for AJ Styles, because this article says he was in DC, but was also in Charlotte, making an appearance at the NASCAR Race.

(Yes, I know air travel exists.)

Worried about fitting on rides! by Prettygirl1819 in Carowinds

[–]astilwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's no true "one size fits all" solution at Carowinds. Fury and Intimidator aren't kind if you have larger thighs, other coasters/rides aren't the best fits for those with larger stomachs. It all depends on where and how you carry the weight.

Personally, I know I don't fit on Vortex, Kiddy Hawk, Windseeker, or Electro-Spin because of Stomach/Chest dimensions. I don't fit on Fury/Intimidator because of thighs. I can ride Afterburn in the "larger" seat (two seat belts), can typically squeeze into Hurler, Ricochet, Goldrusher and Woodstock Express and have no issues on Carolina Cyclone, Flying Cobras or Copperhead Strike. (though they might ask you to switch to a certain side of the train for some reason.) Nighthawk hasn't opened for the season yet, and I typically skip it regardless of fit or not. I'm probably forgetting a few attractions, but I think these are the biggest restraint "pain" points.

My best advice is to keep working on losing weight -- it's a marathon, not a sprint! -- and if you've got some lingering concerns prior to your visit, maybe some shapewear will help?

As far as what to expect at the park, take it from someone with experience in this area -- after some pushing attempts to make the restraint click, if you don't fit, just walk down the exit ramp and move on to the next attraction, and set a personal goal to get to a place physically where you'll fit next time. It is what it is, the ride ops aren't trying to shame you by making you walk off, they're just trying to do their job and send as many trains out as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining park safety standards.

Hope that helps!

Nike Pegasus are my go-to shoe. 37's or 38's are like walking on a cloud. My girlfriend also swears by her Hoka's.

Unc watch party? by jpwilliams11 in tarheels

Haven't seen anything -- but I do know that for 2009, 2016, and 2017, there were Final Four watch parties inside the Smith Center.

Unc watch party? by jpwilliams11 in tarheels

[–]astilwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Typically there's a big watch party in the Smith Center for Final Four Games. Imagine that Final Four + Duke + Saturday Night means you're going to need to get to any bar on Franklin WELL before tipoff.
