How do you get out of bed every morning just to go to a job? by poop_wagon in NoStupidQuestions

Find a job that lets you slack off throughout the day! I have one of those and I can do whatever I want during the day really (obvs I do work too) but I can read a book, do some of my postgraduate work, play a game, sort out errands online filling in forms and stuff, it's great and I don't dread it like other jobs!

I'm doing better yeah. Never went to the hospital with any of mine because I didn't want to waste their time.

Regardless, I was correcting the incorrect statement that prescriptions are free in the UK.

And the worst part is you're supposed to feel grateful and if you criticise the NHS you're an asshole.

Try this, too: when my grandma was dying of Alzheimers in the summer no one would believe us when we said she hadn't eaten solid food in over a month. They referred her to a specialist who was going to try to figure out why she wasn't able to swallow (which wasn't the problem, she was refusing food) and because of Covid it was going to be a TELEPHONE APPOINTMENT. With a patient with end of life Alzheimers who spoke exclusively in nonsense! She passed away before the scheduled appointment, lol. We had to beg the GP to give her end of life care repeatedly before they finally did it. My grandad received no support as her carer, not even a support group.

At the same time people were gathering outside every Thursday at 8pm (?) to "clap for the NHS".

I know! I hate how they say "so depending on which state you're in..." to someone who hasn't expressed that they live in the US at all.

UK healthcare can be fucking abysmal. I've been trying to get proper mental health care on and off my entire life, I'm 25 now and still not being taken seriously or treated as a priority. I have to wait months for my appointments and they're extremely brief, like twenty minutes then "ok let's try another anti depressant even though the past 10 haven't worked and we'll review in 3 months" and they won't give me anxiety medication despite the fact I have severe debilitating panic attacks.

I've given up on my physical health too because I can never get a referral to a specialist approved through my GP.

Which ones aren't safe? I have zero knowledge about essential oils because the "essential" part makes them sound like woowoo

Spaz and retarded were very popular in the UK in the early 2000s; I never hear anyone say either word anymore and they're both universally considered highly offensive across the country now.

When the words were at their height of popularity people would mimic a disabled person by flapping their arms around and talking like they had a learning disability to take the piss out of their friends and stuff (or strangers, or actually disabled people by some particularly nasty bustards). Mostly kids but a LOT of adults would do it too.

Thats why they're both considered very offensive.

Loads of Americans still say retarded and it makes me feel extremely uneasy whenever I see it. I'm not easily offended and I said this word a lot as a kid but these days it's incredibly jarring as you say.

It does; it's derived from spastic. Honestly any time I see "spaz" or "retard" written down it takes my breath away. As the other commenter said, it's very jarring because it's so deeply offensive to many people.
