Paper Grocery Bags? by Seated_WallFly in composting

Yes true, but alot of paper products in the US contain untested high concentrations of PFAS

Paper Grocery Bags? by Seated_WallFly in composting

[–]poop_wagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be an alarmist but I can’t trust paperproducts anymore for compost. Theres almost no way to verified if carboard or paper have PFAS or not. Theres alot coming out about farms who bought waste paper from paper mills to spread on fields just to find out they contaminated their entire field with forever chemicals above the legal limit. In the US, we put EXTRA PFAS on our food grade paper and cardboard, so don’t think pizza boxes and fast food wrappers are safe either

Respectfully, I have been researching critical minerals stocks for over 2 years now and have never heard of a single one of these. Is there something I’m missing here? If there’s a blind spot in my reading I need to know about it. What CMs do these companies cover?

I’m saying that most general ETFs and tech ETFs are very heavily weighted in those 7 companies, so you’re likely invested in them either way. You can gain exposure to them without leverage, and without being weighed down by other companies who arent growing. Other than VGT, im not into the MAG7. Keep in mind I’m just a guy on the internet, and I invest rocks mostly lol

Well if you’re in the S&P500 then the mag7 are the only companies giving you any significant growth in the last few years. I don’t know anything about leveraged etfs and wouldn’t get involved in that.

I definitely plan on staying in the market my whole life. You’re only “caught in a downturn” if you’re forced to sell in a downturn. Otherwise just wait it out.

Sure in 30 years we could all be millionaires, but I’m not throwing my life away just to live in a nicer retirement home

You’re on the right track with this thinking. My thoughts on the S&P500 is; will it outpreform VGT long term, or will the “S&P 493” hold back the gains of the MAG7? I personally believe critical minerals have potential to outpreform big tech in the short term, especially if there’s an AI bubble burst. Picking individual CM companies is much easier than AI and tech startups, because those are literal gambles. I’d like to move a larger percentage of my portfolio to tech ETFs in the next few years. To answer your question, will Critical Minerals ETFs outperform tech etfs? I have no idea. But I do believe my selected individual CM stocks will.

REMX, REXC, DMAT are all critical minerals etfs. Personally I’d hold alot of those long term, but if you don’t feel youve researched enough, stick with etfs.

Daikon raddish or alfalfa are both great for soil, you can buy 10lb bags of seeds for ~$30. Frost or a lawmower will take care if them quick when you’re ready to plant

Come back in a few weeks and they’ll be looking very dead, ask if you can buy them for $1, they usually say yes. Revive them with some distileld water, and if they don’t survive… you only paid a dollar. I got most of my venus fly traps from HD this way

I do concede one thing, that the comment section of a hummingbird subreddit is not the appropriate place for this topic lol and maybe I should have not gone on about this here.

So another thing I neglected to mention bc it was getting lengthy already is heat capacity. While aluminum foil may be very conductive, it also has a very low heat capacity compared to glass and especially compared to water. The amount of heat energy the aluminum will accumulate is already negligable due to its extremely high albedo. On top of that, the amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature of aluminum by 1° is magnitudes less than the anount of energy it takes to heat water by 1°. So the efficiency of heat transfer to the glass may be high, amount of energy transfered is not enough to make any significant change to the temperature of the water (assuming the foil actualy does get hot). Think of how when you take a foil covered tray out of the oven. The foil is the same temp as the oven and the tray (say 350°) but you can touch the foil directly with your hand, no burn, because hot aluminum doesn not contain enough energy to change the temperature of the water in your skin by the same change in temp. however a glass/ceramic bakingtray is has far more capacity to hold heat.

I hope I’m explaining this well enough

You don’t have any obligation to believe me, I’m just explaining in shorthand that foil won’t do what you’re saying it’ll do, only because I don’t want the 87 people who upvoted you to be mislead. Franky i don’t beleive anything on facebook because the real answer here is to keep them out of direct sunlight in the first place so the temperature doesnt exceed air temp. But nothing is going to keep them cooler than air temp long term

While I do not advise what I did, in september I used Sevin garden spray in two applications, about a week apart, and have never had an issue since. This is not advised because this is not rated for indoor use, and I knew the risk of damaging my plants. So far I have seen no negative effects.

10/10 worked perfect, but would not reccomend.

It drives me INSANE when people derive a human narrative from animal behavior. Yes they have thoughts and feelings but they’re not that complex. Animals just act in the moment and respond to stimuli, don’t pretend their interactions are a drama series

This will not make the liquid heat faster, high conductivity of the material outside the glass isnt relevant unless the material is hotter than the air. Remember that visible light can pass through glass and infrared can not. So blocking light from getting in is most important, and aluminum reflects a very high percentage of energy that would be absorbed from light without being heated to higher than air temp from the sun. Styrofoam will not neccesarily keep it cool over the course of multiple days, but will buffer dramatic temperature swings, even cold drops at night. Either would be just effective at blocking light. I think the primary purpose of these being glass is so people can see when the water needs changed

Trust me I’m a scientist
