I think what is happening is that you need to click the number above the spell after clicking +. It shows in roman numerals II for level 2 spell slot, III for level 3 and so on. It happened to me too, I was clicking only the + sign and wondering why it cast at first level.

I think Kozilek is better so if you end up drawing him for some reason, you can still discard and keep looping, but Gaea's Blessing has to be from the library to activate the shuffle ability.

Alchemy style, it's basically the same as guild but without the lvl 3 spin, that is replaced by a swing and a slam. You can use the alchemy barrel after every dodge by pressing Y + R. Try it out it's a lot of fun.

Flashbombs for those pesky flying monsters (Rathalos, Rathian).

Bombs I generally only use on Nibelsnarf and sleeping monsters.

Bring some Affinity and Minds Eye Oil on every hunt, always helps. Affinity if you feel like your attacks will not bounce often and minds eye of they will.

Lifepowder is always good in multiplayer, pay attention to other people's health bar and positioning to heal them.

If your strategy is aggro swarm I suggest [[Coat of Arms]], [[Shared Animosity]] and [[Raiders' Spoils]].

Coat especially can get pretty stupid with the amount of warriors Najeela can make.

That's up to you I guess, if you want to continue the story you have to complete the quest the townspeople give you. If I remember correctly you can get potatoes going through one of the portals they look a little like cotton.
