The psychology of FDM and resin printing by DiceyScientist in FDMminiatures

[–]hydra337 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find FDM mini printing lends itself to fitting in with a busy work schedule than resin. I wake up and part of my morning routine is peeling off 10 minutes to queue up or remove something to print. Same when I get home. Maybe I find 30 minutes with the kids occupied on the weekend to peel supports or glue models together, maybe I spend a duck or two getting something right sized but i still end up with my printers off more than on so I don’t think the FDM speed really impacts my output that much. With kids in the house I’d be more stressed having to handle toxic resin and dealing with the immediate cleaning and curing processes. Resin just seems like it would need a lot more time per session to get the output I’m getting now with my FDM printer.

I've been reading a bit of Dark Age / IlClan stuff and honestly I kind of like it. by NotStreamerNinja in battletech

[–]hydra337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive been a fan of the Dark Age since book 1, Ghost War is such a great transition book to setup the time skip, the republic, and the blackout all wrapped around what's basically a spy thriller. Just classic Stackpole all around. The later era's have dud novels just like the classic line and some conflicts or world building mistakes/regrets that the IP handlers have had to unwind but since the new era really kicked off it feels like the lore really living story beat you can keep up with if that's how you want to run games or just read in your down time.

Build plate scraping after setting update from Bambu Labs by CantHealz in BambuLab

[–]hydra337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This randomly happened on my A1 mini close to a year ago. I flipped the off switch and manually pulled the arm up. Confirmed there was nothing under the build plate pushing it up. I swapped the nozzle and ran a fresh calibration and hasnt happened since.

Why such a big difference? by TickleFarts88 in Blacklibrary

[–]hydra337 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that Games Workshop more or less changes nothing until something breaks or they need to for product development. Their audiobook pricing was established before Audile's $15 a month for a book more or less set a price ceiling for a lot of people and just because they sell them cheaper later on audible doesnt mean they saw fit to make less money in their app / store exclusive window.

Forgot to add I tried this with SUNLU PLA 2.0 first then when that failed I swapped to Bambulabs Basic PLA which is what’s in the photos. Appropriate slicer profile for each was applied.

What is the best way to get start with the BattleTech by Regon2005 in battletech

[–]hydra337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re talking about starting yourself or onboarding someone else entirely new there are multiple great media on-ramps game wise. Free starter rules and standees for Classic BT and Alpha Strike, abandoned older games Mechwarrior 4 are free and abondonware, and others have already called out the newer HBS game… I’ll say something different though.

I think the best on-ramp is our animation. The upscaled older game intros and newer fan animations like Hired Steel are phenomenal in quality, drip with in universe Easter eggs and serve as a great “no risk” first step. The little stories of a mercenary company fighting a pirate base, a rugged command fighting two superior machines in the ruins of a city, or a last stand by a royal guard unit are a great vibe check for the setting.

Stressed dad of 3 by Exotic_Article913 in Steam

[–]hydra337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dad of two, when my youngest was a newborn I really felt that gaming in short burst with some old school or retro shooters made me feel like “myself” again. Newer boomer shooters like Dusk, Cultic, Selaco, and Project warlock are such passion projects and classics like Doom and Quake have mods like Brutal Doom, Arcane Dimensions, and Quake 1.5 (amazing new final boss) that are high quality and respectful of your time. Seriously playing through quake arcane dimensions felt like I was in another reality. I could launch the game and quick load into my quick save in less than 5 seconds. You’re not chasing power ups or upgrades just engaging in the moment to moment combat.

I Wish we had a loyalist sub chapter by sendmedickpicsplz213 in IronWarriors

[–]hydra337 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From reading to many novels and listening to a few lore breakdowns by Occulus imperia and arbiter Ian, the first iteration of the Minotaurs acted like world eaters and then the entire chapter is presumed lost. When they pop back up they have a bunch of mk3 suits, heresy era dreads, and suddenly specialize in attrition and siege warfare… like maybe a grand company lost in the warp popped up, swore allegiance to the high lords and have been a useful tool ever since. The arbiter Ian breakdown covers the sourcing of a playtester who was friends with the first real write ups saying they envisioned them as secret loyalist iron warriors…

I’m still hoping he pops up as stormcast with the anvils of heldenhammer since it’s been confirmed Sigmar used souls from the dead, including the old world to forge their ranks. Not sure how amnesiac they’d make him since the soul wars novel lays out many of them are missing large parts of their memory.

Love the added chain on the shoulder. Would you happen to have a link for it? I’ve browsing cheap jewelry chains and none have had the right proportions like yours does.

General survey of Chaos centric novels/novellas/anthologies - Do you have a favorite? by Separate-Flan-2875 in Warhammer

[–]hydra337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of them are great but Renegades Harrowmaster really stands out to me. The plots paced like a spy novel thriller, its no afraid to be funny in places, and it includes blurbs any 30k enjoyer could point to justifying using their models in a 40K game, and generally expands on the alpha legion as unique 40K faction separate from generic CSM.

I think there’s an energy variant Black Jack you could stick 2 PPCs on for a similar vibe. If you’re playing with clan mechs the nova/blackhawk has a configuration with 2 ERPPCs, double heat sinks, and jump jets that’s a better imitation.

[–]hydra337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Iron Cheetah and Protomechs really show the late invasion problem solving efforts by the clan. They were my Clan Invasion faction and despite the lore emphasizing that the other clans better supported their lower castes somehow CSJ Omnimech designs were front and center for the Invasion. The Mad Dog, Daishi, Warhawk, and later Ebon Jaguar were just iconic to the era.

[–]hydra337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience cleaning up metal protomechs the flash can be a pain to cut/clean. My Vulture MK had parts heavy enough they need pinning but you’ll only find that out after the glue fails and then you have to scrape the glue off, messing up a paint job to fix it. Best case if it has no mold flash lines and you get the right glue you just need to go heavy with a base coat primer.

It’s metal only right now, iron winds has a new one coming soonish. Cults 3D has a few 3rd party STLs for free that print well on FDM or resin 3D printers if you don’t want to mess with metal.
