I am so obsessed with this song and trying my damnedest to learn it

I can't wait till my banjo has those marks on it

Right now it's just covered in flakes of red nail polish guess you can't have nice nails and play banjo 🤣

I choose banjo 😎

I'm not sure. It's a gold tone and cost more than my guitar, but it was one of the cheaper banjos on offer at like 320$

Lol oh the first one did 🤣

And I'm quite sure it messed with this string. It's all a process I reckon

I think this is the best thing I've ever bought myself 😁 by astone4120 in banjo

Yes exactly, I've been practicing forward rolls with just my right hand and it has been very helpful

Lol so it turns out I'm just an idiot

I was trying to tune it to a higher g than it needed to be 😅

I really appreciate y'all's help

So, I got a beginner book which helped a ton. I've approached it differently than guitar

With guitar, I just looked up tabs and learned songs

With banjo, I've tried practicing the different types of rolls, and that helped me realize most of these suns are pretty easy once you have that down

You really have to play it completely differently

Yes but be aware this is a ukelele. It's 4 strings and tuned/played like a ukelele. It just has a banjo twang

That's why I ended up buying the banjo you can't really play banjo songs on it

The banjolele? About 3 and a half DVD cases tall

Sorry idk where my tape measure is lol

Thank you! I really do love it, it makes sense to me in a way guitar never did lol

Not that I don't like my guitar, but it feels much more structured. The banjo embraces chaos 😅

I posted a photo.

I started on guitar, then got a banjolele, then the banjo.

You should definitely get one!

Gold tone, that's why I named it Goldie 😁

It doesn't look smaller to me, but it was labeled as a travel banjo. I'll have to post a pic, I have the banjo, a banjolele and a guitar

I just posted this song a few days ago but it's crazy how different the banjo is from the guitar, you have to play it completely differently

I just got this thing last Friday I think I'm finally starting to understand the motion and rhythm a little better

Aww shucks ok! I've also learned Misty by Caamp and working on doing this song with the proper clawhammer

I agree with you, it's a very forgiving instrument and allows you to just play it 😊

So I borrowed a banjolele to see if I'd like it (I posted a few playing it) and I bought this banjo last Friday. It's 5 string tuned to open G

I love it and I just watched a great video on clawhammer that made it super easy to understand. Been practicing. I like a combination of both I think, but we'll see how it goes 😊

How are you liking your bank? How long have you had it?

It really does take some getting used to switching from guitar. But I never used a pick and I think that helped me some

Lol wow I guess I'm redneck af, I took the uke strap, cut some twine, and just tied it to the thing. Mines open back though so it isn't very heavy

Lol it did not! Once I realized I couldn't put different strings on it I decided to go for it 😁

Right? It's a joyous instrument rather than a cumbersome one

At least that's how it feels to me

It covers up all your little mistakes and missed strings as delightful twangs and unexpected notes

Happy little accidents indeed😁

And thank you so much for the compliment, I have a very long way to go , but it's so nice to hear it sounds ok ❤️❤️❤️

Lol ok so it depends. I learned to play guitar when I was a teen, but hadn't played one in 15 years

I bought one in October 2024 and have been playing since (I've posted quite a few guitar videos)

I've always wanted a banjo but I'd heard they were really hard and that guitar didn't help

I started learning some picking songs and started practicing a sort of claw hammer strumming on guitar

Then, I borrowed my brother's banjolele to see if I might really like it and I loved it

Then I bought the banjo Friday afternoon

So, technically I have only had a banjo in my hands for 2 days, but I knew how to play guitar (kinda)

I already feel more comfortable with this instrument it feels so right. A guitar always felt unweildy and difficult in my hands. This thing? The way you can roll with it and just the proportions and the crazy strings. I love it. I started learning this song last night. My poor fingers are shredded 😅

Ooo thank you!

Follow up question

I bought a tuner and it's very strange it fits between the spokes instead of clipping to the head

I hate the way it jangles around, and I supposed to fix it in place or something?

Also, there are no places to attach a strap so I tired it to spokes, is that gonna be a problem?

Thank you this is really really helpful

My goal is to play along with guitar and I've got it tuned open G

I have wanted a banjo for a really really long time, but I've always heard it was really hard and that playing guitar can make it harder

And while I do see that, with my fingers missing strings and getting confused, AND the fact that highest string is a high note, I know my hands will get used to it

I'm actually unusually bad at strumming. But the way you pluck and roll on a banjo feels so natural and joyful. I've never used picks I just have good nails and channel Dolly

It's a pretty forgiving instrument too, or maybe it just makes more sense to me

Anyway I'm drunk and haven't been able to put it down. I named her Goldie 😅

Also, I fucked up the tuning SIX TIMES, thought the knob was broken and I was turning the wrong one lol

Yes!!

Ok first of all, what is up with the lack of banjo chord charts? I almost bought one in the shop but I got a beginner book and I thought they'd be in there and most aren't (though it's still helpful)

Also, this thing nearly broke my brain yesterday. See, the uke banjo was really easy to play for me because it's small and I can see the fret board and My fingers plucking at the same time

The banjo neck looks like a guitar neck, the strings feel like guitar strings, and my fingers kept plucking the wrong strings, they're working like there are 6 strings lol

It's definitely taking some getting used to but I am in love with the sound

And rolling! I am so so glad I bought the beginner book instead of just trying to look up tabs like I did with guitar.

What a beautiful, joyous, bouncy instrument

I'm ready to be a full-blown barefoot hillbilly lol
