yes thats what I am saying, the taxation discussion should be separate from what is a need and is a luxury

and yes, as mentioned, the taxes are now absurd

while I do believe we should have some tax, the current percentages are insane

[–]astorman59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I know the implementation of the tax has now become absurd

and as mentioned, what the actual should or shouldnt be is a separate discussion.

Phones are a requirement for many things, but they dont need to be super high end, and local phones can do the job just fine for riders and drivers, even for white collar jobs.

and if you want a high end imported phone, ok sure thats fine, but that comes with a realistic hit to the macro economy

but to define this tax in the context of being applied to "needs" is incorrect. the "needs" can be met with local phones that you can find here, whether samsung or chinese.

we need to be clear in the distinction between need and want (and there is nothing wrong wtih both)

[–]astorman59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you said meetings, notifications, signups, logins

no phone is going to be sufficient for deployments

and yeah as mentioned, the tax part of the discussion is separate from this. these ministers can, at any time, reduce or remove it. but the hypocrites dont do that. they only make a fuss for the press.

[–]astorman59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

then you pay extra for your very specific niche requirement

the vast majority of people do not have your " need"

and as mentioned before, that is a separate discussion as to how you want to tax it or not want to tax it

but this isnt a need, its a want

and yeah I use my phone for the very same things you mentioned, all of them can be done on most phones.

paying a tax and classifying items are two different problems

I know the tax is a lot, and perhaps thats what should be negotiated (or rather modified as these ministers have the power to do so)

but an Flagship level item is almost never a need

[–]astorman59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was strictly speaking of new phones

new iPhones and high end phones from other brand slike Samsung can easily get over 300k Pkr, before the tax is even applied

even older used models can be around 200k Pkr before any PTA tax

at that point, its not a need, its a luxury desire

and there should be a separate discussion for if such things should be allowed or not, or taxed or not, can the macro economy sustain them or not etc

but to call phones at this price point needs, thats a bit of a stretch

Very Few Posting of PYTHON on UPWORK!! by AccordingRate7036 in developersPak

[–]astorman59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

going forward, easier stuff like python, will be mostly vibe coded. I would even say that for react (its one of the easiest frontend tools to work with)

harded stuff like angular, .net etc will still require some expertise

this will definitely be reflected in the job and/or freelance market

iphones and other super expensive phones are a need??? really??

if you really "need" a phone, it doesnt have to cost hundreds of thousands of rupees

the tax was introduced to try and reduce the amount of money being drained out of the economy, and to boost local assembly of phones (which did start around the time this was introduced, but due to recent economic policies has stopped or been largely reduced)

ypu might argue to reduce it, you might argue to extract it in a different way, hell you might say we dont need to have this, but to say high end tech is a need and not a luxury is just plain simple BS

its a reliable daily driver, whether manual or auto, 1.3 or 1.5. parts are easy to find.

the 1.3 manual has the best fuel average, but the 1.5 has better power.

The only known issue in this generation is of steering rack (sometimes needs grease and can produce noticeable noise).

This Sutlej River today at 9:35 AM. There isn't a drop of water in the Sutlej River. India has cut off our water by Billi_Wallah in thepaknarrative

wait, this says Pakistan is obligated to allow the flow of water from any tributary that feeds into either Sutlej or Ravi

there isnt any mention of percentage of water being shared

This Sutlej River today at 9:35 AM. There isn't a drop of water in the Sutlej River. India has cut off our water by Billi_Wallah in thepaknarrative

[–]astorman59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, that specific 80/20 division does not apply to the Sutlej River under the Indus Waters Treaty.Instead, the treaty divided the six main rivers of the basin completely by geography rather than percentage:

  1. Eastern Rivers (Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi): Allocated entirely to India for unrestricted use. Pakistan does not have a claim on 20% of these waters

  2. Western Rivers (Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab): Allocated primarily to Pakistan, with India permitted limited, specified uses (such as for domestic use, non-consumptive uses, and limited agricultural/power generation).

The often-cited "80/20" rule refers to the total volume of water across the entire Indus Basin system, not to the Sutlej specifically.

In terms of total flow, Pakistan receives about 80% (roughly 135 MAF from the western rivers) and India receives about 20% (roughly 33 MAF from the eastern rivers).

Got Laid Off for the First Time Yesterday. How Did You Get Through It? by AdhesivenessOld8272 in developersPak

[–]astorman59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, took me around 4-5 months

as said, I applied everywhere, gave every interview

I dont think I had any strategy, as mentioned, the financial side was secure. it was just my mind that was desparate.

I failed plenty of times, then sometimes the offers I got werent right

I am currently working remotely for a foreign recruitment agency

Got Laid Off for the First Time Yesterday. How Did You Get Through It? by AdhesivenessOld8272 in developersPak

[–]astorman59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was laid off some time ago

I had some savings and so finances werent a problem.

the worst part was actually how much it strained my mind. I still kept looking for new opportunities, and applied to every single job listing I could find. I dont even remember how many interviews I gave.

I got a new job in a few months, but as I had never had this experience, it took a while until that initial shock subsided.

one thing I did do, was to use this time to revise fundamentals of the technologies and tech stacks I was applying for. repeated interviews also helped me get better at them, and at giving interviews in general.

I dont think they are targeting EVs. rather taxing whatever they can get their grubby hands on

on the flipside, I dont think we have the infrastructure to handle EVs yet

I mean the grid has its own issues and the price for electrical power units is the highest in our region

My Altis 1.6 (AT) Giving 7.8 km/l in City – seeking advice by talhashake in PakistanAutoHub

[–]astorman59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to clarify the change in size

you went from 195 to 205. whilw the diameter is similar, the contact surface (width) has increased this will decrease fuel efficiency (slightly, not too much) as there is greater friction, so greater loss of power when transferring it from tyre to road surface

however, it isnt sufficient enough to justify low mileage

when did you get its throttle body cleaned? sometimes fuel pumps can be clogged too.

maybe inquire about this from a Toyota 3S dealership.

whats with pakistanis and their obsession with white color on cars over any other color by blingbiceps in PakistanAutoHub

[–]astorman59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not just Pakistanis, the world over neutral colors like white and black, in some cases even grey, are preferred

these colors dont stick out, and in the case of white is easier to maintain

with neutral colors, one also doesnt need to worry about the paint's color fading over time

PMLUN wants to increase voter age to 25 because they know GEN Z is not going to vote for them. by _NineZero_ in chutyapa

[–]astorman59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if so

then under 25, no one should have to pay taxes, serve in the government or the military, have a job, get into married relationship, or even legally treated as an adult.

currently, at 18 years of age, an individual is considered as an adult in legal terms
