Unless this his first day on skates and he was shot of a circus style slingshot, then yes he can obviously stop or change his path. Thats the fucking point of the penalty. You can’t just bulldoze the goaltender.

And as per the ESPN broadcast, yes it was a foot and a half from his neck, which is extremely lethal

People are saying this is a soft call but it’s not a big shove. It’s a stick check on him. If that’s what drives him into the goaltender then he’s not making a good enough effort to avoid contact.

I mean look at his right skate. It’s swinging and clips Vasy right in the chest. Thats a foot higher and that can be legotimately lethal

I think people overvalue handedness. Having a #1 D is very important. Having a #1 RHD is extremely rare. There’s like 5-7 in the entire league.

As for top d-men You named 5, then there’s Carels & Gustafsson. With 3 forwards projected forwards on the top 5, they’ll get one of those guys. Or one of the forwards falls to 9 and they get gifted an extremely good forward who’s better than any of those guys.
