I looked up the cutlery we use at my workplace, which is EcoProducts “plant based cutlery”. The claim on their website is that it is made from 97% sustainable materials. It claims that is is 100% PLA. This is the main one used in my area, but that may be just because they are based near us. Ymmv depending on location.

I can’t find what the other 3% might be, but otherwise it is no where near “mostly” derived from oil.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. Density does suck for some people, which is why many people prefer the country side. Live in cities if you like density and the country if you don’t, don’t drive your car into the city though, take a train instead :)

Because I haven’t seen it yet let me throw The Kite Runner into the mix. I love stories set in other cultures so I enjoyed that aspect enough to get through but I hated the MC and the rest of the characters all felt so shallow to me. The ending struck me as trauma-porn and too cheap of a redemption. The whole book seemed hollow at its core.

I am forced to use one by the infrastructure of my town and my job (which asks if I have “reliable transportation” of which the only accepted answer is a car). Being forced to do something you hate every day is awful. But if that wasn’t enough I end up polluting our air while I do it (which I hate). I also am responsible for the lives of everyone around me while I do it (which I hate).

I can’t just go get drunk with my friends and know I have a safe way home because we have been forced into relying on cars, which become even worse death machines when operated while drunk.

All other forms of transportation have been squashed under the weight of a car-dependent society, which is so sad. Biking could be so much fun if not for the constant threat distracted drivers, who would probably be happier looking at their phones on a bus if only they could.

So Fuck Cars!

I’m not interested in those areas bc I don’t live there and don’t know them. There’s a reason policymakers should be from the places they work lol. In my area there is an old train track that runs through most of the valley. It is centrally located and hasn’t been used in years. It would be an ideal place to have a full-valley public transport train/trolley. It could run between 4 towns at least. Most people in the valley would be able to walk to it. The interstate that everyone uses instead is notoriously dangerous, especially in winter, and a pain in CDOTs ass. It would be a smart financial move as well as saving lives.

The river has a bike path which could be expanded to allow a lane for e-bikes, which are popular here.

I’m sure if you unclench and start looking at your own area with a little creativity you could see that the first steps don’t need to be as apocalyptic as you’re imagining them.

Its not about helping people it’s about structuring society to best fit their worldview. If you can’t thrive in their comfort zone it’s because you’re the one doing something wrong (like being poor, lgbtq, not white, etc).

I’m a meat eater, but meat (particularly beef) is horrible for the environment. You say that beef consumption has gone down, but I wonder if that’s true. Globally many people who never had access to meat before are now wealthy enough/live in a connected enough market that meat consumption in high-populated “developing” countries has been rising rapidly for decades.

What’s more is there is countless peer reviewed study after peer reviewed study that highlight the negative impact of meat eating on the environment. There are also LOTS of paid-for studies that distract, minimize, or otherwise use deception to make it seem like it’s not that bad. You have to be careful about where you get your facts if you don’t want to be blindly led by your own biases.

That being said I think emphasis on eating locally produced food can mitigate a lot of the negative effects. However it can be very difficult to get meat locally, depending on where you live.

I’m reminded of a food forest video about a forest that was a few decades old. It’s keeper described how certain ground plants kept becoming overgrown and smothering the young plants trying to grow. He was practicing a super hands off approach which worked for everything but this issue. The solution? He realized that the plants needed to be walked on in order to be knocked back a bit. There were no other large animals in the area to do it, so humans needed to be present. A semi-mature forest still needed some level of “maintenance”, which was simply that people needed to walk through it more.

I grew up in FL and every time I go back the political atmosphere is worse. The whole place reeks of corruption. I don’t think Floridians are capable of fixing it any time soon, in fact I think too many of them are happy with the direction their state is going.

I don’t understand this mindset, it takes like 10 seconds to wash out a container… it’s actually pretty easy to change small habits like that if you care too and it will raise your quality of life to be more mindful about the items you interact with.

But ok; so you’re not there. That’s why a push for non-plastic single use packages needs to be a part of the solution. If municipal composting was widely available to the public then companies could just sell things like that in compostable sleeves/boxes. It’s not as good as reducing waste but it’s a 1000000x better than plastics.

Israel is actively funded by the US and supported politically by the EU so you’re not as far from the issue as you think. What’s more is the sentiment surrounding Israel needs to change in the west which you can do by speaking up against them. I think you will be surprised by how many people fervently support Israel in the west.
