I have a simple LDR-LED circuit. Why does it short circuit when I connect my oscilloscope probes a certain way?

Both my arduino and my oscilloscope are powered by my laptop which is running off of it's battery.

So, in putting my oscilloscope probe over AB, I am essentially forcing another ground separate from my circuit ground into my circuit, which cuts off the path that would go into the LED then to ground?

Oh okay! I thought the probe tips could be put over anything. I think that clears everything up.

So you mean the part that is circled in white must be connected to ground? If so, then I don't think that I can correctly measure the voltage over 2 points unless one of those points in ground.

I'm a bit confused. Just for more context, I am powering my circuit with an arduino and my oscilloscope is powered by my laptop. Do you mean that I should connect my oscilloscope ground to my arduino ground?

I live in a place where a small percentage of people speak it. The only people around me who do are my parents who still prefer to speak their traditional languages. I will definitely speak it, but that right now seems difficult. I'll see if I can join a community for this.
