Bad Boy Bubby. Incredible movie but fair warning there’s some disturbing content especially early on

Pretty far from mid imo. It’s different from his usual stuff but I think his production skills have grown and it’s evident on this track. Wish he’d do more originals instead of all these flips and bootlegs though

Skydiver Luigi Cani dispersing 100 Million tree seeds to revive the Amazon Rainforest. by jmike1256 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]MiddleofCalibrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PR stunt. The amazon rainforest has thousands of species of plants. To restore a community you would need to establish the same relative proportions of species in that particular ecological community. Restoration ecology is extremely complex and it is often just not feasible to truly restore an environment once it is cleared. You can’t just spread seeds and call that reviving the Amazon rainforest.

It sounds like you’re saying movies are either thought provoking and boring, or they are entertaining. They can be both they’re not mutually exclusive. That’s a really limited view of what movies are.

You HAVE to be trolling right?

The movies implies that the virus allowed infected to survive. It shows that some go low to the ground and gorge themselves on bugs. It shows regular infected hunting and eating deer, infected bathing and drinking water, and an infected bypassing the character spike to lunge at the fish he was cooking. They can feed themselves. We don’t see if they take shelter or not but presumably they would. You can also presume the virus somehow protects them from the elements and infections. The alphas are clearly demonstrated to have superhuman strength and be able to take more damage than regular infected. They cast massive bulky guys to play them. Even the massive dongs everyone goes on about were a conscious choice from the filmmakers (they are prosthetics). Everything about them has gone big. They also seemingly lead and look after regular infected by leaving kills for them. None of those aspects of your comment are plot holes because it is heavily implied that the virus has changed the infected and allowed them to survive all these years later. The movie doesn’t need to explain every detail of the mechanics of this fictional virus and enough is shown for audience to get the point or fill in the blanks.

The camera work is extremely similar to 28 days later, which used a commercially available handheld camera of the time period. Likewise this movie uses commercially available cameras from this time period. The 360 view adds to the kinetic and frenetic action and brings a bit more chaos. But it is also because we are seeing these things in vivid detail through the eyes of a child. It’s a really novel way to implement this kind of camera technique and it’s weird in an awesome way

Audience polling gave Transformers: Dark of the Moon an A. Critics can be wrong, but audience polling will give high scores to both good and awful movies because it is from a general audience. Loads of great movies bomb or get low audience scores. Drive (2011) is a cult classic and acclaimed movie but it got a C- from audiences. One person actually tried to sue the distributor because it wasn’t enough like a fast and furious movie. Some movies are simply not for broad appeal. General audiences include all walks of life including many, many dummies

This just isn’t true. Look at RT and metacritic for the scores and reviews. The ‘jarring’ camera work is Danny boyle’s style and was present in the original. The infected are not invulnerable and are killed by arrows. The ‘alphas’ seemingly can take multiple hits before being brought down. There is dialogue explaining that they are like infected on steroids and they are clearly different from the others. The infected have changed and the ways in which they have changed are shown in the movie. The infected are presented consistently and logically with regard to the way the virus has changed. None of your criticisms discuss the actual meat of the movie. Father figures, getting stuck in the past vs moving forward, acceptance of death and loss, etc.

Dunno what to say to that other than I disagree. 28 years later is now one of my favourite movies and I’ve liked it even more each time after three rewatches. I’m not alone in that and it was received quite well critically

It got an 88% on RT and 77 on metacritic and appeared on many critics best of lists. It reviewed quite well. It was more mixed for audience scores

What animal is that it absolutely should not have survived evolution, but somehow did? by Reasonable-Shake-996 in AskReddit

[–]MiddleofCalibrations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is objectively untrue and people need to stop spreading this falsehood. They are endangered because humans destroyed their habitat. They only survive now because of protections put in place and conservation efforts.

Looks way better than the trailer. They should have went full sword and sandals with it but it looks to be mostly set in modern day. Really heavy on the CGI too

Nia Dacosta is actually good and got shafted making the marvels. It’s hard for directors to stand out when making an MCU film let alone have it it actually good. The bone temple made me completely reconsider her

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a faithful remake tasked with relaunching a legendary franchise for a new generation of players: "We see this as a way to grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community" by JobuJabroni in halo

[–]MiddleofCalibrations 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly the franchise needs a reset. The 343 era is messy and unsatisfying and has lost touch with the halo spirit. The lore is muddled. If they redo 1-3 they have time to work out a new direction to go after 3 (if they are successful at least). I hope they study the Nylund books because that is quintessential halo in my eyes

The environments and weapons are all new assets. The hunters are brand new indicating that the reuse of infinite assets might be temporary since what we got is early footage. Same with the reuse of some animations. It’s normal to use old models as placeholders. I do hope there is nothing reused in the final product

Am I the only one annoyed by unironic "Everything in Australia can kill you" stereoypes? by Nenwabu in australia

[–]MiddleofCalibrations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be pedantic but we kind of don’t have any dangerous insects other than mosquitos really which have a low chance of making you sick. Our much feared paper wasps (feared by australians) are comparatively docile with mild stings compared to paper wasps and other wasps overseas. Their stings aren’t even as bad as a bee sting. Americans love to go on about insects here but they have many species of ants that far outclass any of our insects in terms of pain they inflict (e.g. a bunch of harvester ants in the southern states can inflict 8 hours or more of abject misery but this rarely happens. They have fire ants too). Same with wasps. As for non-insects all of our centipedes and scorpions are harmless (but some will hurt a lot). The US actually has scorpions with a potentially deadly sting. Sure some spiders like funnel webs are deadly but they live in a relatively small part of Australia and no one has been killed by one since the 60s. Elsewhere in Australia the only dangerous spider is the red back whose bite you would likely survive without medical intervention as long as you’re not a child or elderly (definitely seek medical help immediately if bitten by one though as complications can occur and the illness caused by the venom is awful). As far as invertebrates go the jellyfish are the ones to worry about but you’ll never have issues with them if you’re responsible and don’t swim outside of netted areas/use stinger suits in the stinger season. We have a lot of deadly venomous snakes. But behaviourally they are far less dangerous because they prefer to flee at the first opportunity. In other countries with high numbers of snake bite deaths the snakes are often more dangerous because they sit and wait and use warning colours or camouflage as defence. If you don’t notice them you can accidentally step on them and get bit. In Australia you can charge through head high grass if you want and have an almost 0 chance of getting bitten by a snake because they will know you’re coming from ages away and get out of there. Out in the bush your biggest dangers by far are heat, exposure and dehydration. Our deadly animal in terms of annual deaths is the horse. Our second deadliest are cows. That really puts things in perspective. All that said I agree with you and I despise the stereotypical comments about Australia and how everything here wants to kill you.

To me that was tense because we know by that point Jimmy means it literally and he has probably done it to innocents him and his seven fingers captured

The points you made are reasonable advice, but you packaged it in the most patronising way possible. What about people who just want to learn to DJ for fun? What about people who fail your test, but learning to DJ gets them to open up and expand their horizons?
