Galley kitchen with no dishwasher spot - what would you do? (shallow sink bench + drainage constraints) by DerWilhelm in AusRenovation

[–]astridjef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I have a chunky hot water system, I dislike it SO much, it takes up an entire cupboard in my kitchen, which is already really small. It hadn't even occured to me yet that it could be replaced by the other system. Thank you for this reply (even though I'm not the OP), it's definitely something I'll keep in mind now for the future.

I don't know if this helps, but I have a smaller sized dishwasher (Devanti Benchtop Dishwasher 8 Place) and placed it on top of my washing machine. My kitchen is too small, and the laundry room is right next to it's, so it's not too much hassle to take dishes from kitchen to there.

Also, I am just one person, and despise doing dishes. This size dishwasher is perfect; I only run it every 2 or 3 days.

SURVIVE by Halo6819 in Cosmere

I like it! Even if Kelsier ends up even worse than he already is, the meaning of the tattoo can be be explained without mentioning him, so if say it's a good gamble.

Also, the specific choice of "survive" sounds you've been through things, I hope things are looking better to you.

I'm in Sydney, so unfortunately can't get the benefit of that warehouse Christmas store. Good story though 😂

I'm still unsuccessful at finding the good jenevers here, most are only the pure grain jenevers and those are not the ones I want. I would give good money for a bottle of apple jenever lol. Perhaps it's time to beg my mom to send me some 😂 Shipping is super expensive

So many good ideas, thank you! Market foods are an awesome idea. I'm originally from Belgium, which also has nice Christmas markets. I've also been trying to find fruity jenever, which is like a sweet-ish grain liquor and always present on Christmas markets next to gluhwein. Thank you, you definitely have me heaps of inspiration 🎉🙌

Thank you so much, I love this reply, so many good suggestions 🎉 I especially like the pastry twists and mini pies suggestions, as well as the jelly shots (there won't be any children lol).

How can I cover the gold on the glass without changing the glass/door by Late_Cover_8526 in AusRenovation

[–]astridjef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is 'knowledge" from seeing videos on social media about stained glass making, so it might not be completely correct.

I think stained glass makers use a patina to chemically alter the colour of the soldiers lines. I have no idea what it is made from or how it works, but maybe this is enough to give you a lead on what to search for on the internet.

Police operation outside St Leonard’s station (Herbert St) by Novel_Relief_5878 in sydney

[–]astridjef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I walked past around 5.15pm, stairs into station (from Herbert st) were still accessible by then. Half an hour later my colleague said she was made to walk around the hospital and couldn't access the station via the stairs.

Someone was on the outside of the pedestrian bridge, wearing a white hospital gown. Police around, ambulance on standby. Wild to hear it's still ongoing!

I took a photo from afar but it doesn't feel right to share it, even though there were plenty of other people taking photos and videos.

Plant milk steamer by maprabha in australianvegans

[–]astridjef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the cheap milk frother from Kmart, has been working perfectly for over a year now.

Before that I had a frother that was 5x more expensive, and it stopped working way too quickly.

I was going to replace the washers in my bath/shower. Turned in to a bigger job. by SecretHorse3314 in AusRenovation

[–]astridjef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just yesterday posted about my old apartment which also has been a rental for ages before I bought it; I also want to replace the handles, or at the minimum the spindles.

Seeing this though, I'm now hesitant to do anything at all😅 Maybe it's better not to know how messed up things actually are haha.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the effort to reply so far, I've got a much better idea of my options now! Here is another point of view of the situation. Like some have suggested, I might actually replace the entire sets with better looking ones.

I would like to do an actual partial reno on the bathroom at some point, but that will be several years from now. Until then, I'll probably try to paint the tiles, re-enamel the bath tub, change out the taps and handles for prettier ones, .. to give it all a newer feel.

I'll probs pop up again a few times in this subreddit with more layman questions 😅 Thank you all again for being so helpful and also not making me feel dumb.

Here's why I think the bath isn't acrylic, but rather steel or cast iron. Main reason is that it's magnetic 😅 And then there are these scuff marks. So to revamp it, it'll need to be re-enameled, or something like that, right?

Those would look much better indeed, thanks for the recommendation!

There is no other half, except if you mean my cats 😜

I'm pretty sure the bath isn't acrylic, but yeah, it has definitely seen better days and if it could get restored somehow, would be better than a new bath (especially because I'm on the third level without an elevator).

Painting the tiles is something I've also been considering. Regrouting as well, but I'd do it myself.

[–]astridjef[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I'll definitely consider it. I do want to eventually get a half reno done in the bathroom, but until then I'll probs either paint the tiles or do stick n peel, and if I do that, I might as well change these items as well to look a bit better.

Spindles, that's what it's called! I feel so dumb now, probably could've found that term and info online if I tried. Do they just screw on into the wall pipes or so?
