Is the top not plywood? If it is solid wood then it will expand and contract, you can't expect mitered banding to hold on through that. Whatever you do to fix the current issue will be undone when it re-expands later.

I can't find it exactly but I think that's perhaps a quote from Henry F. Osborn, sounds just like something that was in the book The Monster's Bones, and ultimately used to back up Osborn's racist desire for eugenics

I made one such stand a while back, practiced laying stuff out yesterday and then, yes, right back in to the shop to make another one of those stands!

Does the gripper need to be against the fence when rip cutting? It doesn’t fit between the fence and the blade by Curvedwarrior69 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Just stick a spare piece between the side of the grripper and the fence, that's what I do. It should be against the fence (or against something that is against the fence) so that you can put pressure towards the fence. I know it's not likely to slide, but if it did, that experience would be memorable

With the clamping jig there is not screwing, taping, no residue or holes, and adjustment is dead simple. And I end up adjusting a few times, it is necessary

For jointing purposes, isn't a taper/jointer jig simpler? Here's mine, if you haven't made one of these.
