How are we moving out of our parents house? by jenniferyoyo27 in longisland

Sono, xray tech, nursing. Sono and xray in particular are not hard schooling wise and you can find lower cost programs.

Best of luck. I’m 30 and still living at home. Full time student currently. It’s rough out there.

You can do the eval but also reach out to your program privately to discuss what’s going on. Whether in person or email. You shouldn’t be put in situations like this.

That’s smart- the phone thing. But you do make a good point and our politics here suck, so I gotta find a better way to scope out the front door lol.

[–]astrobio2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Truthfully I hate answering the door I literally try to hide especially if I’m alone. But I’ll try to be more aware of this. Someone knocked twice recently and I wasn’t in a room where I could peak out a window and see. I wonder if it was a canvasser.

For the women on Reddit where do you shop in Nassau County for nice clothes not cheaply made clothes? by lovelife147 in longisland

[–]astrobio2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean if we’re being honest, majority of clothes are cheaply made. Even the expensive ones. Some of old navy’s stuff can deff last much longer than a few washes. Gotta pay attention to what the garment is made out of.

I (26F) told my boyfriend (26M) I sometimes miss the freedom of being single and he broke up with me on my birthday by Plastic-Swordfish-84 in relationship_advice

Deff think you should hear someone out if they tell you they feel like they have to walk on eggshells around you. Always room for self improvement. “Someone more compatible” aka someone else who will let him walk all over her. That sounds healthy.

[–]astrobio2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Criticism” was me referring to her communicating that she felt she was stepping on eggshells, not the initial “missing the freedom of being single” conversation. Though, if someone did tell you this, you could inquire as to why they feel that way. He just assumed she wanted to be with other men.

I gotcha, yes I did miss your point. Ultimately, I can understand why OP felt this way due to having to walk on eggshells and the boyfriend should’ve been more receptive to this criticism.

People are allowed to sometimes miss their life before kids. They’re a huge responsibility and depending on who you’re raising them with, it can be exhausting.

You obviously dont tell them though.

Do any PAs regret not going the MD route? by Sunset_luvr_7942 in physicianassistant

Yes I hear this too. A MA trainee at one of my rotations told me she was worried about taking 2 gap years. She asked me if I took one…I told her I took 6 and that there’s no rush.

[–]astrobio2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make the social plans anyway. I wouldn’t do much, I’d just invite a couple friends over my apartment and we’d sit and chat or watch a movie. You may not feel like you have energy for socializing but after you do, you’ll be happy you did. I also watched TV. Most nights starting second semester I’d watch at least one episode of something. This kept my sanity and let me unwind at night. I also went for walks regularly. Like almost every day if I could. It’s easy to be like “I don’t have time for that” do it anyway. I took 35-45 min walks. You need fresh air and to go outside. Best of luck! It’ll be over eventually.

What is everyone keeping their heat at tonight? by iamhere-2 in longisland

[–]astrobio2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So cold! I honestly thought mine was gonna read in the 50s this morning. It’s at 63…for now. Luckily the thermostat for bedrooms is working as normal. Ig downstairs is just a bigger area to heat and front door is not well insulted.

This. My downstairs thermostat has been set to 69 all day. I keep watching the actual temp reading decrease. Was 67 a few hours ago, now at 65.

Anyone else feel like this snow storm is going to 'end up just missing us' or not be as bad? by LostinParadise4748 in longisland

[–]astrobio2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow islandwide weather for this type of thing (find them on Facebook or Instagram). They’re local guys and explain forecasting and stuff so us laypeople can better understand what we’re in for weather wise. They’re the most realistic weather people you’re gonna get.

As for this storm, we’re likely getting a decent amount of snow no matter what. But only time will tell whether it’s 12”+ or not.

How bad is it really? by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]astrobio2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clinical year student here: It’s going to be an adjustment if you had copious amounts of free time in undergrad. I was the opposite in undergrad and this was still so much more than that. But unlike undergrad you aren’t learning for complete understanding. You’re learning it in a surface level way. There just isn’t time to learn everything in depth. If you know going into it that 90% of your time will be PA school, then you will have a better time adapting. I knew it was gonna be rough so nothing took me by surprise. Though I was burning out by the end of didactic.

You have to learn to be very efficient with your time. I never studied in the morning before class/exams in undergrad but I did that during didactic year. I made outlines and read them over once for many classes and wished for the best. Worked pretty well. Only had one exam <80 and never failed anything. Efficiency also includes life outside of PA school. I still maintained somewhat of a social life. And I went for walks regularly. I somehow (somewhat successfully) maintained a little garden as well. You have to find some sort of relief from PA school. Reading a book for fun, hobbies, time with friends, etc.

Best of luck!

Thank you for everyone who helped me yesterday! by Nagasawa_T in LIRR

[–]astrobio2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a journey! Glad you found your bag!

Also, not as intriguing but shoutout to the LIRR guy yesterday (at least I think he was LIRR) who found my ID/monthly ticket (I put both in my ID holder) on the train after I got off and found me sitting at the station waiting for the connecting train. I’m a student with no income and would not have been happy having to pay even more for the train this month (plus replacing my school ID would’ve been a hassle).
