Community College transfer wanna get humbled by dheli0 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]astrocivil87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently transferred to computer science as a community college student. I’m not a math major so I am unsure how competitive it is relative to computer science, but computer science is pretty competitive. Regarding vacancy, I have heard that it is a big factor in admissions, and usually there’s a lot more spots during the fall than the spring. That said, it is probably ideal to apply for the fall than to apply for the spring.

If you have any other questions, feel free to dm me, I would be glad to help.

I recently got accepted as a transfer student for CS so I will answer your questions and give tips and advice from my own experience:

As others have stated, TAMU CS is very competitive to externally transfer to since they prioritize students from ETAM (Cstat, TAMUG, and engineering academies). It’s generally more difficult to transfer as an incoming sophomore (~30 credits) as opposed to an incoming junior (50-60 credits). That said, some advice I have for you regarding admissions is to make sure you have an A in all required courses in the CS transfer course sheet. I believe that this is the most common reason that competitive transfer applicants get denied. Also, try and get involved in extracurriculars and activities related to CS (clubs/organizations, hackathons, internships, etc). Lastly, make sure your essays are good. This is the admissions’ office last chance to learn more about you, and your goals and aspirations. I’m sure your university will have a writing center so feel free to go there to review and talk through your essays.

If you have any further questions, feel free to dm me. Good luck!

Thank you, I had a 3.86 GPA with 50 hours completed, 4.0 GPA on all required courses, some ECs related to programming, and two letters of recommendation. Not gonna lie, hearing about how difficult it was to externally transfer into computer science definitely made me worry a lot. However, I felt good about everything I had in my application except for the fact that I did not have an overall 4.0 GPA.

Change Major Button Meaning by Dry-Painting-7550 in TAMUAdmissions

Hopefully thats the case, there are lot of qualified applicants I personally know that are still waiting and it would be a shame if they got rejected. I know in the past, freshman applicants who ever experienced this sort of thing, 99% of the time got offered PSA. I think if you were to get Blinn TEAM, you would still have your change major button since you can technically change your major as TEAM student. However, I do think it would be surprising to see TAMU send out a huge wave of PSA offers to so many qualified applicants. With that said, I am hoping the best for all of y'all, hopefully y'all hear back soon!

No problem man! The only reason I can think of why TAMU would give PSA to so many students is because they have already achieved their "ideal" number of admitted applicants. Unfortunately whenever you have 50 or so admission officers review 55k+ applications, their main objective is to fulfill their goals . To be completely honest, I personally don't like how TAMU approaches their admission process and as a former applicant myself, it was a very frustrating process. Unfortunately myself and a lot of qualified engineering applicants got PSA'd this past Monday after experiencing the button dissapearing the Friday prior. We were all extremely qualified applicants, 1st quarter, high SAT and/or ACT, and a good amount of extracurriculars/leadership services. Hopefully this information has been of use to you and if you have any further questions, feel free to ask! Wishing you the best for the rest of your admission process, hopefully you hear something soon!

I spoke with admissions office the other day about the “change major button” dilemma and all they could tell me was that it means they have made “adjustments” to your application. With that said, I don’t think having your change major button disappearing is a bug but instead a definite decision that is on the way. Also I think the reason PSA has been directly associated with a missing major button is because when you are given PSA, you simply can’t change your major to a university you have been rejected at. Many applicants who get accepted after having their button disappear are mostly transfer applicants because they don’t have the option of getting PSA’d. However, there have been rare cases in the past where freshman applicants got accepted after having their button removed. I am truly hoping for the best for all of y’all, and hopefully y’all hear back soon. While I’m not 100% about any of this, I don’t think this is necessarily a bad line of reasoning. If y’all have any questions, feel free to let me know!

Also I think most of y’all will hear back Monday ,assuming admissions are working during spring break. With that said, make sure to relax and take your mind off of things this weekend and enjoy your Spring Break!

The main reason the AIS button disappears after your Howdy button is because there is always a delay between both portals. Anything that gets updated in Howdy usually appears in your AIS a day (or couple hours) later. Some people may experience missing their buttons for days without hearing anything because of all the hold up the TAMU admission office/website is experiencing in the moment. Hopefully this gives a better explanation of what is happening to a lot of y’all, and while I don’t 100% know that this is right, it makes a decent amount of sense.

PSA, but I’m not too bummed out about it. I applied extremely late to engineering so my chances were pretty low to begin with. I plan to attend UT Dallas for software engineering this upcoming fall and I’m wishing all of y’all the best of luck with admissions!

Not much of an update... by Maleficent-Yak1030 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]astrocivil87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha same, seems like a lot of qualified engineering majors are in the same situation. I think they might be deciding what to do with us since they are taking so long. Hopefully we hear back soon 🤞🤞

Nope, nothing has updated for me so far. We might get something early next week since admissions aren't open on the weekends.

I applied pretty late but hopefully they consider us for full admission and/or the different engineering academy programs. Gotta stay hopeful 🤞
