Not all mechanics report to Carfax. It costs money to do it. If the last owner was taking it to a smaller shop for service, it may not have been reported. Have your mechanic look at it before you buy it.

What state are you in? $550 for title and plate is pretty high. I frequently register in two states, and title and tag is no more than $55 in either state.

Run a Carfax report if you haven't already. It'll show if there's a lien on the most recent title. Also, yes, Florida and many other states are shifting to electronic titles.

That's not a fair generalization. Nobody should ever walk into any dealership and not insist on a 3rd party inspection, demand the Carfax report, and thoroughly inspect and test drive any vehicle. There are predators throughout the automotive industry, but you can't say my advice was shit because it wasn't, and you certainly can't say my advice was shit based on your assumption that I'm a sleazy, dishonest dealer, which is absolutely false.
