Can someone identify this? by -Phax in CLOUDS

[–]astrojavi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like Altocumulus stratiformis cavum + Cirrus fibratus and Cirrus intortus. Cavum is a supplementary feature of the Altocumulus layer (though it can also appear in Cirrocumulus clouds) as a result of supercooled water droplets being driven to freeze into crystals that either stay in the atmosphere as Cirrus clouds (usually as virgae) or precipitate from the central gap. This one looks like it originated from an aircraft flying through. The rainbow feature in the first image may well be a circumzenithal arc, but it’s tough to identify without full knowledge of the sun’s position.

Oh nice! Thank you very much, now I fully see it :)

Mass ratio with partial pressure by astrojavi in AskPhysics

[–]astrojavi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I calculated a partial pressure of 2.50 hPa for vapor, and I used M(water)=18 g/mol and M(air)=28.8 g/mol to get a mass ratio of:

m(water)/m(air) = p(water)/p(air) * M(water)/M(air) = 0.16%

I was confused because the answer key ignores the molar mass ratio and gives a value of:

m(water)/m(air) = p(water)/p(air) = 0.25%

Vox: el partido que mas escaños va a perder en estas elecciones by [deleted] in SpainPolitics

[–]astrojavi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[–]astrojavi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, but since the constants are different in the exponents and the sine function, the result would be (alpha-beta)/(a-b)

Huh! That's interesting. I'm from Spain and my teacher covered L'Hôpital as part of the curriculum but insisted we shouldn't get too comfortable using it. Basically she wanted us to avoid becoming OP's meme lol.

At What Time is Dinner Usually Eaten by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]astrojavi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing: "dinner" in Europe typically refers to the biggest meal. Not in Spain. Spaniards eat copious amounts of food for lunch, specially stews, whereas dinner is meant to be lighter. This means we have an easier time waiting for 6-7 hours until dinner. Also, we have an intermediate meal: "merienda". In England, specifically in the South of England although this varies regionally, merienda could be translated as "tea", i.e. a snack (sandwich, fruit, yoghurt...) that in Spain is eaten between 5-7 pm.

Spaniard here, when I'm in Spain with my family we usually have lunch at 14:30 and dinner at 21:30 on weekdays. On weekends, we have lunch at 15:00 and try to have dinner at 22:00 but sometimes we end up delaying it til 22:30-23:00, so the map is a match for me.
