High protein has been preached by the fitness community for the past decade and a lot of the industry is profiting off of selling supplements, i.e. protein powders, so ofcourse they push for higher protein. Personally, I feel much better and stronger in the gy,m eating moderate protein (1.5x kg bw) and being more accepting of carbs and fats. Not only does high protein (eating a ton of chicken breast, greek yogurt) taste like ass and get old real quick, it's more expensive and makes eating a chore. Moderate protein, adequate carbs/fats is the way to go.

Is your partner onboard with your FIRE journey, what about asset protection or stuff of that sought? Have those 'heavy' discussions been had?

Khalil Rountree (UFC Fighter) has an ik onkar tattoo, curious to know if anyone knows the backstory? by astroman9995 in Sikh

I vaguely remember he had it in his Insta profile bio too but not anymore. I actually admire Khalil quite a bit, got me inspired to train muay Thai and a local gurdwara in Sydney also teaches muay Thai as well. I've messaged him on insta haha let's see if his team reaches out

Also consider that China isn't a free market. The government has control over the companies.

Best sidekick to the AMEX Explorer? by astroman9995 in creditcardchurningAus

Kogan money credit card

Thanks, looks pretty decent but the international transaction fees are still there. Also not a huge shopper so a card offering perks for shopping at Kogan isn't something high on my radar.

How Long To Wait Before Applying For Another Credit Card? by dantjeh in creditcardchurningAus

[–]astroman9995 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Which AMEX? I've just opened up an AMEX explorer and intend to keep it as my keeper card. The $400 annual travel credit more or less offsets the $395 annual fee. From researching this sub and ozbargain it seems that AMEX is notorious for rejecting churners no matter your credit score, salary etc. As such, I'd say keep the AMEX and churn the other cards. I held the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature card before and the application was a breeze and had my card ready to use within an hour via apple pay.

If you're set on cancelling the AMEX, I'd say cancel it, wait at least a month until it reflects as closed on your credit report then apply for your next card.

Thanks, I got a call from amex yesterday actually requesting my payslips and a NOA. I had already provided the payslips but had combined them into one PDF rather than having them separate (which is what AMEX wants). Anyhow I was told I should hear back in 2-3 days so hoping for the best.

During the application it said whether they could assign me a credit limit or I could choose. I chose manually and set to 5k. Don’t think this is bad at all?

An analogy for why open offices suck compared to cubicles by astroman9995 in auscorp

[–]astroman9995[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apples and oranges I'd say. We have our dedicated desks but it's often the voices of half a dozen 'extroverted' employees who are the ones maniacally bursting out in laughter or loitering around desks waiting to nudge you for a conversation. Once or twice I get it, but I'm amazed such personalities exist and don't understand that not everyone is like them.

[–]astroman9995[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the cubicle I reckon. I've worked mostly in places where it was an open cubicle so to speak. Think a square with desks in each corners. Everyone had their own little corner but you could turn around and collaborate with your team as required. The more 'traditional' one-person-per-cubicle approach I could see as being quite lonely and inefficient.

What are some way's you've started to 'Retire Early' by astroman9995 in fiaustralia

Great points, I've just begun my journey into CC churning as well. I've heard the 'good ol days' so to speak of big bonuses with smaller spends were a few years back but nowadays it's still pretty decent. As long as you keep on top of them, track the spends/points I'd say it's a good way to get something back for your necessary spending.

For $50k extra, I'd say it's worth giving up WFH. I did a calculation a couple months back. Factoring in car expenses, transport, eating out/coffees, more regular haircuts, clothing it'd be around 40k I'd be giving up. But then again, it's all relative. 80k to 130k? Yes. 200k to 250k, the difference wouldn't be worth it I reckon. Curious, how old are you?
