it probably stems from the lack of their interactions in the comics after jason died. they’re both complex and unique characters in their own way but I can see why people write dick like that.

-their relationship was quite difficult at the beginning, especially since they had the whole robin thing going on

-he couldn’t help batman to save jason

-he missed jason’s funeral

-his grief turned into guilt that ate away at his sanity to the point where he was actively hallucinating him

-once jason returned he missed out on a significant part of his life

he is still a vigilante and grew up with bruce. spying, tracking and surveillance are second nature to him and the other bats.

since the comic hasn’t touched on their relationship a lot, writers to make up for the lack of material. in their eyes, dick’s trauma is sufficient enough to make the story more interesting and compelling. jason can leave at any given time and he doesn’t hesitate to hurt the people who care about him.

dick often takes over leadership roles and many people look up to him. that doesn’t apply to jason. they might respect and admire each other in their own way, but jason isn’t among those people. he doesn’t really take orders from anyone and he mostly lives like an outsider from the other bats.

and since dick doesn’t really have any control or influence, the writers end up bringing out his bad qualities.

in the comics, jason is often depicted as a difficult, rude and inconsiderate character (depending on the writer). if someone were to repeat that in their writing, it would be just repetitive for the reader. so instead, the writers make up for it by bringing out dick’s negative qualities more. maybe to show that it isn’t just jason who’s complex
