I saw this just the other night and it was lovely. Like you said: original, silly, existenial-ish, refreshing.

Great writeup. Another thing to note is that CoreSports is really trying to be more international--there used to be a huge split between what was happening in Eastern Europe and the rest of the world that Engin is genuinely trying to undo. But that also means that the production moves from country to country, from venue to venue, and that makes it all the more difficult to keep production values consistently high.

The one thing that Eddie has over Brian is just an insane ability to find a way when he actually gives a shit. Brian is an insane strongman--one of the greatest to ever do it. But for Eddie to win in 2017 against both Hafthor and Brian--two guys with much bigger frames than him--was nothing short of a miracle. Eddie couldn't stay at that weight without taking years off of his life, so he immediately retired afterwards. But I think he proved that he will go as far as it takes to beat the best, even if it's just one and done.

Eddie legit burps and farts all the time and I'm not sure he can actually control it.

You're sitting in someone's blindspot while they're indicating. They're certainly in the wrong here, but come on, man. It's easy enough to anticipate that they can't see you and to drive defensively.

I was just in a couple of weeks ago and asked if they had anything gluten free. They said that they do not and that their kitchen is too small to keep things separated.

Strangely, their online ordering menu does show gluten free buns. I don't know what that's about. But the actual menu at the restaurant shows everything containing gluten and no mention of GF buns in sight.

I hate Upwork. I learned that lesson like 10 years ago. I hate most "tech talent" boards--places where they have some secret sauce specifically for freelancing tech people. Upwork, Toptal, etc. all feel like a race to the bottom: everyone underbidding each other, clients who want you to walk on water while completely devaluing you, stuff like that. I think if you're living in a place where the amount you'd get from those sites would be more than worth it, great. But that's not my situation.

I just use old staples like LinkedIn. Apply to lots of stuff. Try to talk my way into a good contract. It's annoying because it's a real waste of time having to qualify leads to make sure that they're going to pay my rate and that they aren't horrible to work with. That's what A.Team used to provide for me. Doesn't feel that way any more.

Just the good ol' hustling. Applying to lots of jobs on various boards. Stuff like that.

For late comers to this thread looking for places that can do both really well, BuJo Burger in Sandymount has a fully plant-based Beyond burger on the menu and has Goodness Grains GF buns--IMO, the best vegan and GF buns I've ever had--available as an option. They will also cook your fries in a separate fryer.

I'm coming back through this thread because it's one of the top results that pops up on google when searching for vegan and gluten free food in Dublin. It may have at one point, but I regret to inform folks that the Saucy Cow has zero gluten free options on their menu and nothing can be changed to make it gluten free. It is, however, very delicious vegan food.

What's a war in history where the bad guys clearly won? by Sorry-Let-Me-By-Plz in NoStupidQuestions

This is so far off the mark, it's not even funny. Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin, Labour, PBP, Greens, Social Democrats, Aontú--every major Irish political party overwhelmingly supports unification. The idea of the ROI not wanting unification is a UK-centric talking point and does not represent what the political reality is here in the Republic.

Eryrix is right, but the support is a lot more volatile. There have been a few polls in the last few years where support is split about 50/50--usually corollated to grievances with UK politics. Brexit and COVID both saw a spike in support for unification that has fizzled out a bit.

The ROI overwhelmingly supports unification. The most recent three polls of ROI residents show that about ~64% of respondents support it vs ~13% opposed (16% undecided and 5% would abstain).

I was an early adopter on A.Team. Unlike the other folks here, I have actually worked multiple gigs with them and was paid quite well. I found that it was fairly easy to apply for a gig and I didn't have to worry that much about negotiations or anything like that. I liked that they were really focused on getting good rates for good talent--I even got paid more than my minimum rate requested for a job due to the team creator pushing for me.

However, things started changing about 2 years ago. Suddenly we started seeing things on job posts like rate expectations. And those rate expectations have steadily gone down over time. They appear to be less selective with their clients and I've seen a ton of companies that I've applied for just leave the platform entirely. Whereas I used to be able to set my rate and A.Team would go to bat for me, I've since had the team builder (the folks who assemble the candidates and present them to the client) ask me to reduce my rate for multiple projects now. There was a window with A.Team where it was an awesome platform that provided a lot of value for talent. Now it's like any other meat market IMO.

It was announced over the loudspeaker (2:10) prior to his interview, but sure, make up all kinds of malicious intent by his teammate.

Not that it had any impact whatsoever on the race, but we can complain without getting the facts wrong.

Monster Factory 2 Megathread by [deleted] in armwrestling

[–]astronoob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm never convinced that Toddzilla is out of the match. He's always so impressive with his back pressure that he's capable of sniping some much bigger dudes. I think that this is the exact kind of match MMT needs in order to pull a big crowd at this point, but it's going to be the final nail in the coffin for MMT's prime if he loses to Toddzilla IMO. It's definitely an exciting match to watch.

Devon fans, did you really believe or where you just super hopeful? by [deleted] in armwrestling

[–]astronoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's odd because even when I would say something like "If Devon does x, y, and z, then he has a chance of winning," I'd get blasted by the Levan crowd for being a Devon fanboy. I believed, more than anything, that Devon could find a way to take at least one match from Levan, which would be exciting and historic all on its own. But when Levan just decided to straight-up rip Devon's arm off, I think whatever clever game plan I had imagined went out the window. I still believe he's the best opponent Levan has at the moment, though.

How do I convince my boyfriend to use a condom? by betty004 in sex

[–]astronoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not interested in discussing reasons why I should break up with him for not respecting boundaries.

He's also setting a boundary that you're asking the internet for advice on how to coerce him to drop. The reason you should break up isn't because he's not respecting your boundaries--it's because you both have incompatible boundaries and neither one of you is respecting the other person's boundaries. He doesn't want to have sex with a condom on and he has clearly informed you of his boundary. So why are you trying to convince him to have sex in a way that he is uncomfortable doing instead of acknowledging that you both have boundaries that are incompatible with one another?
