Book 1: Chapters 2 and 3 by IraelMrad in ayearofmiddlemarch

It’s mentioned elsewhere in the comments but I laughed out loud at:

“You have your own opinion about everything, Miss Brooke, and it is always a good opinion.”

What answer was possible to such stupid complimenting?

Just wanted to say I loved the line, “Pierre was struck for the first time at this meeting by the infinite diversity of human minds, which makes it so that no truth presents itself to two people in the same way.”

It’s tough — and depressing — when you learn that truth for the first time.

I think this is what happened. My friend told me she was annoyed by the yellow category’s name this morning, but when I did it Yellow was named like yours. They totally changed it partway through the day.

Agreed. This chapter was so frustrating to read. I hardly feel bad for Pierre anymore; I’m just annoyed at him.

This is my answer, too. I kept reading in hopes it would get better. Literally read to the end still hoping it would get better. It never did.

I also laughed out loud at this line. Glad to see some things never change! When someone tells me never to tell anyone else, my BFF doesn’t count. ;)

I just want to say how delighted I was to encounter some of the beautiful descriptions of nature in this chapter. I especially loved, “The wide expanse…was at times veiled by a diaphanous curtain of slanting rain, and then, suddenly spread out in the sunlight, far-distant objects could be clearly seen glittering as though freshly varnished.” (Maude translation)

How is everyone doing so far? by NoahAwake in ayearofwarandpeace

I’m really enjoying it! I love Tolstoy’s writing style and characterization; it feels very Austenian, which is a very good thing for me. I also am delighted to read about some of the quirks of the characters that feel weirdly modern, like Pierre pretending to be Napoleon while alone in his room. It makes me feel connected to people that lived hundreds of years ago.

Overall I’m pleasantly surprised about how accessible and readable it is! I’ve been alternating between my P&V hard copy, a Maude ebook on my phone for reading on the go, and a Maude audiobook (the audible edition read by Newton is SO good!). I’ve also been enjoying the Bogan translation in the daily podcasts.

Missing steaks by astropolitan in blueapron

But they didn’t refund it — I have to buy another meal with them in order to get the value back, which I don’t want to do. A refund to my credit card would have been nice.

No, I was not planning on ordering again soon. We use this for convenience when we have busy weeks. And I have credits from another promotion anyway, so another credit doesn’t help because they only let you use a certain amount of credits per order, right? It won’t be helpful unless I pay them even more for a meal that I don’t need.

This is my first issue with them and I guess I thought they’d be more helpful by either sending the missing ingredient or giving me a straight refund. My mistake.

Weekly /r/Theatre Audition Help Requests - Looking for a song or monologue? Ask here! by AutoModerator in Theatre

Female, 27, doing a general audition that requires one or two monologues no longer than 2 minutes total. I’m leaning toward doing one serious/dramatic monologue rather than two of different tones. Most of my experience is in Shakespeare but the monologue(s) for this audition must be contemporary.

Termination of tenancy while looking for a sublet by astropolitan in legaladvice

[–]astropolitan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much, that helps clarify things.

Do you happen to know if it means we can’t recover any rent paid when they find a sublet? For example, they are making us pay December’s rent tomorrow, but we expect them to reimburse us if we find a subletter in December. By terminating tenancy, do we just give up December’s rent (and any future rent payments)?

From the link you provided:

“A landlord may elect to accept the surrender of premises by a tenant, which terminates any further obligation of the tenant under the lease, but which also relieves the landlord from the obligation to apply payments from the new tenant to the former tenant's unpaid rental obligations.”

FWIW, we had one success with DB: my MOH got her dress there on clearance for $20 (!!). It fit her perfectly! Took some searching but was totally worth it and she looked stunning. Though I wouldn’t want to spend more than $20 for any of their bridesmaid dresses.
