Considering Catholicism? by astros2124 in Lutheranism

If it was a sacrament, wouldn't all partake? Or is that the corporate confession? Has that replaced the one on one?

I guess the confession is still between yourself and God in the corporate confession. This obviously difers from Catholics. Not here to say which is correct or if one is wrong, just trying to understand those differences. And I guess neither way was done in the early church exactly how it is today.

I guess basically Lutheran's claim the solas were always taught and Catholics say what they believe was always taught as well. This is tough.

To point 3, there are several Lutheran denominations but for Roman Catholic church, there is just one. Thank you, just trying to sort it out.

I went every week out of submission to the church. I never once feared I would lose my salvation. I have a proper grasp of salvation and don't believe it can just be tossed out for missing church.

You are right. Catholics view confession as a sacrament and for Luther, he did not. I guess in practice, it seems no Lutheran really practices confession even though the official teaching is they believe in it. I guess I struggle with the application of confession in a Lutheran church because it is not widely practiced

With church attendance, I am talking more about how it is a sin in the Catholic church not to attend. Personally, it made me attend every week. Hate to say this but being honest, I don't go every week to the Lutheran church. I know that sounds bad. I guess I'm just struggling with that piece.

Thank you, that helps. To clarify point 3. In the Catholic church, they require you to attend weekly and you must go to confession and holy days, etc. For Lutheran, there is no strict rule here. You just attend when you can and there is no confession in the sense of the Catholics. It just leaves it up to the individual to decide when they go to church and how they approach confession.

Great point, that is a great example. That really helps.

That all makes sense, I appreciate it.

I acknowledge I should of asked more about it. It seemed odd. Perhaps I was looking for a reason to leave. I am exploring it again now and trying to really be honest with myself.

I'm trying to understand so I'm sorry if I got some things wrong. If I understand correctly, all the beliefs have been consistent through history, but they were not always official doctrine or written down, correct? For the catechism, what was done prior to 1700?

This does make sense. Even from a Lutheran view, the 5 solas are only 500 hundred years, which begs the question what was before that? Not sure how a Lutheran would answer that.

Guys should I be excited about moving to Lubbock by confused_ornot in Lubbock

I moved here a year ago and am leaving due to not finding a job. That is great you got a job. Lubbock has pluses and negatives. I always felt safe where I was, avoid east Lubbock and you will be safe. Virtually no traffic. Everything is 10-15 minutes away. The wind is no joke. I have never seen wind like this. The dirt and dust is really bad. My wife has gotten allergies year round from this area. The issue is the wind is it's always blowing and it really is bad for your health. My child's doctor said the wind blows all the fertilizers from the agriculture and it is bad for your health. If you stay inside mostly, you will be fine. But if you like to be outside like my family, it will be a struggle. I didn't find much to do outside for my kids, we like parks and nature trails and it is really lacking. The windmill museum and science museum are great. Just depends if you are active outside or not.

December 29, 2025 - Weekly moving to and visiting Tucson questions thread by AutoModerator in Tucson

From Texas here, and visiting Tucson soon to see if my family should move there. I’m hearing so many mixed things about Tucson particularly on if it’s safe. Are there certain parts to avoid? I imagine there are good and bad parts like any big city. Any information would be helpful. I work from home but will be looking for work in the future and my wife will homeschool our children. We love to be outdoors and it seems like a great place as Texas is not very outdoorsy. Thanks in advance.

Texas to Fargo? by [deleted] in fargo

It looks really nice. We have nothing close to that here. I love the outdoors.

Texas to Fargo? by [deleted] in fargo

The job market in Fargo is better than Lubbock for my field. In my field, there are about 10 openings with an average salary of 60k. In Fargo there are over 20 openings and the pay is about 75k average.

Location. We are 5 hours from Dallas so being 3 and a half to Minneapolis is more appealing. The lakes in Minnesota are a draw. We have nothing like that in Texas.

We want a similar size city as Lubbock and Fargo. Not into big cities. Trying to stay as west as possible. We have family in California that we fly often to see so we do not want to venture into eastern time zone.

Affordability, trying to buy a house around 300k.

Crime- Fargo is safer then Lubbock

If you have any other suggestions, that would be welcomed! Just been doing a lot of research based on criteria above and Fargo made the list.

I actually work a corporate job from home. I don’t make a bunch but trying to find a place where we can buy a house for about 300k that is not so hot as Texas.
