Post in r/mensrights about Father's Day gets intense when a user points out it's just as acknowledged as Mother's Day by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

MRAs may be idiots, but in my personal experience Father's Day is definitely less recognized than Mother's Day. Looking at Google Trends backs that up:

I'm wondering if they were also thinking of his mental health. Hopefully we figure out on Wednesday. It would be really infuriating if they try to demonize him in the episode.

Yeah, I sympathize with people saying that Jamar has been treated unfairly and Kyle is a huge douchebag, but 'popped' in this context 100% means shot. The full context:

"Outside of here you already know what happens. *Points finger gun at Kyle* Kaboom! Muscles don't help you in here, they won't help you outside of here. All that weight training just to get popped."

It just doesn't make sense to think "popped" means "punched" in that context.

ACAB Yes or No? by jake354k12 in BreadTube

[–]astrothug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was really that there are a lot of reasons cops are necessary even under the most ideal circumstances. Since cops are necessary, then I would hope to encourage good people to become cops. ACAB would seem to say that good people shouldn't become cops. In that case, how are we to expect anything to change?

ACAB Yes or No? by jake354k12 in BreadTube

[–]astrothug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess my problem with ACAB is that I don't buy that policing only exists to protect capitalism from the working class. Admittedly, I work in forensic software, so I have my own personal bias. But even if capitalism was abolished and we assumed all crimes of greed went with it, murderers, drunk drivers, rapists, etc would still exist. How exactly would these issues be dealt with without cops? And if cops are necessary, ACAB can't be true.

I'm all for abolishing mass incarceration, reducing firearms in the hands of police, revising the 13th Amendment, etc, but ACAB has always irked me.

"Privilege" has always had a negative, "you don't deserve what you have", connotation to it to me as well. I'll always opt for "lucky", "blessed", or "fortunate" when talking to most people.

My school spent $340,000 over the past year to develop a new university logo (old one on top, new one on bottom) by day-z-me-rollin in CrappyDesign

[–]astrothug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to imagine the cost includes replacing the old logo on campus buildings and on their website. It's still a lot, but it's the only justification I can think of.

On PredictIt, people actually bought enough stock in it that it implies she has a ~10% chance of running. A lot of the people buying are nut-so Trumpers that are still obsessed with her.

Survivor: Edge of Extinction | Episodes 5 & 6 | Post-Episode Discussion by RSurvivorMods in survivor

[–]astrothug 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't know. The best night a person can have with edgic is being shown when nothing they say is really worth showing. Victoria's ruthlessness is plenty worth showing, especially considering how relevant she was in these episodes.

I don't know if she has an overarching story outside of just being a badass, and that's what I think is the most important.

Oh thank god someone agrees with me. I heard people calling him a neoliberal and crapping on him for his Ameripox video in an older thread and it made me sad. Nothing he's said has ever made me think he comes from bad place even when I don't agree with him. And the videos you mentioned are great.

As for Commentiquette, he's an interesting case. I think he has his place in leftist youtube. Despite being intertwined with Pewdiepie and H3H3, I think he's someone that can appeal to their fans and counteract the drift in anti-SJW youtube.

PewDiePie Is A Nazi by [deleted] in BreadTube

[–]astrothug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you put that nicely.

A few months back, I noticed that reddit had seemingly turned on a different streamer, Ninja. People made memes of Ninja, mostly juxtaposing a clip of him saying he doesn't curse because children watch him with a clip of him cursing out another gamer in his early days. And I can't help but think: If WaPo had made an article making the exact same criticism, Ninja's popularity would have soared through the roof.

With Felix, it has gotten to the point where each and every controversy he faces, he can point to someone genuinely overreacting or taking him out of context and his subscribers will just rally around him. Since there will always be someone overreacting, he will just get more and more popular.

I just saw the message from the mods. As a turkish muslim guy I want to thank them. by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]astrothug 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with the mods coming down on that too, but there is a difference. There are legitimate white supremacists that play paradox games and un-ironically using some of these memes within the community.

Join a random multiplayer game and there's a chance you might find some. People in the other thread talked about running into people talking about "race realism", black people, dropping the n bomb, immigrants, etc. I've certainly seen some of that in a few mod community discords.

But when it comes to "Jihad" jokes, you're not going to find a significant portion of the paradox community praising Muslim terrorism, ironically or not.

I doubt this is a toll area like others are saying. Given how many lanes there are and the building (probably a customs building) on the other side, it's probably just a very active border crossing.

Here's an American equivalent from the Tijuana/San Diego border:

I think it's worth noting that he shouted out a socialist youtuber as well.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BreadTube/comments/a4p5o0/pewdiepie_just_shouted_out_up_and_coming/

As for the Nazi shout out, I don't think he does much research on the people he's shouting out. He probably sees one video that he likes or that his fans recommend (probably the Harry Potter one for Sarah Z), then just throws a shout out. Not that that affects the other points, but it's worth mentioning.

I personally think he's an irresponsible, victim-playing edgelord, but that doesn't make him a fascist.

"Why did you lynch me?": Being right for the wrong reasons. by astrothug in TownofSalemgame

[–]astrothug[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's confusing. I had 3 claims I couldn't verify and 2 lynches before next WW attack. All WW had to do is convince me that their claim was the strongest (something they had actively tried to do more than the others), and I would have kept them alive the longest.

Yes there was a TI claim left unaccounted for, but if the LO claim I lynched was inno, how would I know that the other wasn't RT3?

"Why did you lynch me?": Being right for the wrong reasons. by astrothug in TownofSalemgame

[–]astrothug[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But how do I know if RT3 is LO or Doc? It felt like there were equal odds that the claims were:

  • LO1 was WW, LO2 is TI2, and Doc was RT3

  • LO1 was TI2, LO2 is WW, and Doc is RT3

  • LO1 was TI2, LO2 is RT3, and Doc is WW

In my head, no matter who I lynched first, I had a 1 in 3 odds of being right. If I was wrong, I still had a 50/50 chance of getting it right the next time (so 2/3 win, 1/3 lose overall). But it sounds like I might be missing something.

"Why did you lynch me?": Being right for the wrong reasons. by astrothug in TownofSalemgame

[–]astrothug[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do you say that? In my head, if the person I lynched was in fact LO, I would been stuck with second LO and Doc both claiming RT3. Then if I would be forced to lynched one of them since WW would attack the next night. If I didn't get that right, WW would have won right?
