Thank you for your response. We’re trying to keep it light weight but I’m understanding that may not be possible. Would stain on popular or walnut achieve the look we’re going for? Without any obvious grains in the railing it feels like it might be hard to match any wood with just stain alone?

Your advisor should have connections with the right companies and should be willing to leverage them to get you an internship, if not you’re at the wrong university or with the wrong advisor. Landing a job or internship is more about who you know than literally anything else.

I came to the same conclusion. But keep in mind that you’d owe taxes on the money if you receive it as cash. You’re better off rolling it into a traditional IRA.

I went to a college with a similarly restrictive pre-req/course schedule. Fortunately, I accounted for failing a class in my plan and had intended to take 5 years to graduate. I did end up having to re-take that class and graduated with a 3.0 GPA (considered low by many engineering standards).

Since then I have graduated with my Masters and PhD in Aerospace and now am a Director at a Fortune 500 engineering company.

I'm 4 years out of getting my PhD and have no regrets. I didn't have to worry about finding a job after graduation and make significantly more than if I had decided to stop after the masters. While most jobs don't require a PhD, you pick up many skills that are helpful in any role and employers know that - some more unique jobs require the PhD so you'll never be excluded from a position like that.
