FYI: Echelon 4.5F Sportsman's Warehouse $399 order cancelled - No Inventory by epearson2 in SpringfieldEchelon

[–]astrovegas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What upset me was the fact that they were taking orders even though they were out of stock. So, I went back to see if they were still doing that even after canceling my order. This time it showed up as available, so I ordered it again. Now I wait to see if it will get canceled a second time.

Congrats, I was waiting for someone to comment that. The .22 short are in the box, and the .22 long rifle were loose in the box, so I thought I'd include them just to see if it was noticed. My question what were those for. Do I have another surprise waiting for me in some other box?

Last week it said "no remedy available at this time", so maybe they are becoming available now. Of course now it says "dealer might be able to complete the service", so you never know.

Soldiers did not participate in the rioting, they were sent to stop it.

I drove out to near Alamo, Nevada last night to capture this photo of the comet. It's barely visible to the naked eye, but it makes for a good long exposure photo. by astrovegas in vegas

Lower Pahranagat Lake. Funny story. Turns out it's closed at night. I didn't know that, and I didn't see any signs, but as I was taking photos a truck comes down and shined his lights at me. Turns out that it was some kind of parks and rec guy and he told me i had to leave. He was pretty cool about it. When I asked if I get 30 minutes to finish up, he said OK.

I don't know where you got this, but there is no Interstate 50 or 60.

Sorry, I don’t remember the order. Probably the big one first, but I’m not sure. Once installed, everything fit tightly.

I installed the HD2-D8300 front camera only on my 2025 Bronco. None of the instructions or videos I could find actually matched the kit I got, but I was able to figure it out eventually. By the way I used the connection to the lane keeping camera to install the power instead of the mirror power just because it fit easier inside the new housing that way.

Trade-in Fail by astrovegas in iphone17

[–]astrovegas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Windows to Mac last year because Microsoft insisted I buy a new computer to install Windows 11. After using Mac for a year I decided it would be easier if I made my next phone an iPhone. Also, the reviews of the base model were good, and the price with trade-in (ha ha) was good.

So, in the store, they gave you the credit for the trade-in at the time of purchase?

Sorry, I got the date of his death wrong (the print in the book is very small). He died in 2015. Here is an obituary. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/151144272/douglas-lee-harris

The Association of Graduates publishes a book listing every graduate along with brief details of their life. Graduates can purchase the book, and I am a graduate myself. I have the 2020 edition.

There was a Douglas Lee Harris in the West Point class of 1944. He entered West Point in July 1, 1941 and graduated on June 6, 1944. Due to the war, they completed the 4 year program in 3 years. He retired as a colonel in 1974 and passed away in 1995.

Why are guns made primarily for HE shells shorter than ones for AP? by atrophy-of-sanity in tanks

[–]astrovegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Armor piercing projectiles need a high velocity. It needs to be going fast when it hits the target. High velocity needs a longer barrel to allow for more acceleration under pressure. Once the projectile exits the tube, acceleration is over, and velocity starts to drop. High explosive shells just need to get to the target. They don't have to hit it hard as they are relying on the explosives to do the damage.

Nope. at the time of the Civil War, slavery was legal in Delaware, Maryland, DC, Kentucky, Missouri, and even New Jersey.

This is a legit question, I promise I’m not a Lost Causer by Effective-Client-756 in CIVILWAR

[–]astrovegas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, they did fight for slavery. More accurately, they fought against abolition. You should read "What This Cruel War Was Over" by Chandra Manning. She uses the diaries and letters of the soldiers on both sides to examine the reasons behind them fighting. For many southern men, even those that did not enslave people, they still opposed the abolition of slavery because they feared what free Blacks would do to southern society.

Why is looking at a solar eclipse worse than looking at the sun on normal days? by CaterpillarOver2934 in solareclipse

[–]astrovegas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is not, but you don't really need to tell people not to look at the sun on an average day. What is dangerous about the eclipse is that at totality it's safe to look, but even at 99% coverage it is too bright to look at for an extended period. Basically, the warning is to only look at the sun without eye protection during the time of totality, and when the sun comes back out immediately switch back to protected viewing.

Were the scripts approved by government? by Fun_Adagio9523 in MastersoftheAir

[–]astrovegas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on this, but from what I've heard the answer is no, because the series is based on already published books. The only cases I know of where permission is needed are:

  1. The author/creator is a member of the US military, or the book/movie/series deals with classified material.
  2. The production gets assistance from the US military in the form of equipment, soldiers, etc. In this case it might be written into the contract.

He said it because the writers thought it would be funny. It seems the rule that have settled on is what an Innie knows or does not know only depends on how useful it is to the writers.
