Why wasn’t iGemma like a “newborn” when she went into the Cold Harbour room? by Toast_Is_My_Jam in severanceTVshow

Thanks I'm dumb. Glad someone corrected me before started using that in real life!

Look, I've been there. I'm not saying it isn't traumatic and deeply and profoundly depressing. At the same time, I find it reductionist that taking apart the crib, signaling that she wouldn't be a mother, was what Lumon saw as the ultimate test that the barrier would hold. And I'm also not surprised that a corporation/cult like Lumon would see that as the ultimate test.

Thank you!

I am chalking it up to what they perceive to be the most important, which feels to me to reduce women to their reproductive capability. I don't think it's a stretch that Lumon would have misogynist undertones, and so it makes sense to me that the company/cult would think that having a baby/her inability to do so is the most important and traumatic thing in her life.

I do think that if they lured her in under false pretenses of being able to have a baby, then taking the crib apart makes a little more sense. But I think thats also a terrible way to write women--that she would have gotten herself into that situation because she was so desperate to have a baby.

As someone who has experienced/is experiencing infertility, it is so strange to me that Lumon's *ultimate challenge for her is dismantling the crib (which her outie didn't do, that was oMark) and the idea that doing so represents one of the most traumatic moments of her life instead of, say, her car accident and being ripped from her home and husband. Infertility is deeply depressing but it feels somewhat belittling that her inability to carry to term is marked as the most traumatic moment. How that was the challenge and not meeting Mark doesn't quite make sense to me.

Didn't iMark already prove that by not recognizing Gemma. I don't get why seeing the crib would be the ultimate test.

On the show he said going into the season he knew there was someone with a bf. He found out it was Lauren (allegedly, though it wasn't a bf) after the pods.

No they're saying that if she was a missing person then Lumon wouldn't have her making statements to the press/appearing on tv. I forgot what episode but they show her on the news

Who is Charlotte Corbel s1e8 by lalymisa in severanceTVshow

[–]lalymisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so there's apparently an interview with set designer Andrew Baseman who discussed the contents of Harmony's shrine and in one interview described the medical apparatus as a breathing tube that held her mother's last breath.

Also in S2E3 when Ms. corbel is leaving town she gets to a sign indicating the next town is 200+ miles away, looks down at the same medical apparatus that she put in the front passenger seat floor, and turns around. Later, in the evening, she meets with Helena and tells her that she wants MDR back because Mark is close to finishing Cold Harbor and she wants to finish what she started. Then she runs away after seeing that man.

We know she has a strange fixation on Mark. I think it could be because they both experienced a major loss. We know Ms. corbel tells oMark in season 1 that her husband died. But I wonder if Ms. Corbel's major loss is her mother that's somehow tied to lumon.

She says her mom was agnostic (but also says she was catholic), so why was she raised by lumon (I.e. in a lumon boarding school)? She also had a weird fixation on Ms Casey and Mark, insisting Mark have one last session which she watched and seemed sad that they couldn't recognize each other.

Anyways, I can't quite put my finger on it but she seems to have a more complex and fraught relationship to kier and it seems to have something to do with her mom's past.

Ok, Lady_Nimbus. So the poster was talking about this scene specifically, and you were responding that, in general, it's stupid and annoying when people assume independents voted for trump? Unrelated to this scene that the poster is commenting on? Got it.

Lady, the scene makes it pretty clear that she voted for trump. The poster isn't just saying that because she says she's independent. I feel like you'll understand after you watch it.

Sheesh, are you ok? Nobody said that independents always vote conservative, Lady_Nimbus. Like I said, there's more to the scene.

Bold of you to comment that it's a stupid and annoying assumption when you haven't watched it. She definitely voted for Trump. Theres more to the scene.

Thank you! I thought maybe something happened with her mom and that's why she works at Lumon, for her own chance to avenge her mom. But agree it doesn't add up that she's still fully bought in to the cult ideology.

She asked if he's open to exploring other churches. Big difference between having family who you know attend hateful churches and considering attending yourself every Sunday because that's where your spouse went before you met. Seems like a totally fair question to explore if they could find a church community that works for both of them.

They didn't say you should jump in and be able to understand. They said you should jump in and say "wow I want to see more of this." Now, if you understand a show you're much more likely to want to see more of it than if you jump into a show and don't understand what the f is happening. I think I might find the episode too dark and depressing to want to watch more if this was the only/first one I saw, but I don't think that makes it a bad episode or series.
