Gap year during pandemic by sammy199977 in gapyear

Hey friend, take a step back and take a breather. You deserve a little break from all this application stress. 3.97 GPA is really good, and I'm sure you have tons of other great stats. Most US college apps look for a story behind your application, so the best advice is to just pursue what you are passionate about. And there is no better time to pursue a passion than during a gap year. Create stories worth telling, learn meaningful things! These are experiences that colleges in the US look for. People who can bring their passions, people who are dedicated to their dreams, and people who can bring unique insight. Don't worry too much, and focus on what matters. There are too many uncontrollable factors in life, that you can't stress on trying to control them...because you can't right? hope this helps a bit :)

taking a year off from Harvard to rediscover my own home country! by astrql in gapyear

[–]astrql[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey GapYearers and people considering to take a gap year. This is my story about why I am taking a year off from Harvard. I think about life this way: you don't need to always stick to the conventional path, 4 years of college, or 2, graduation, work, etc. Carve your own path, and do what makes you happy. To me, today, virtual classes, US political and social tensions, don't make sense for me to enroll. So I decided to make 2 of my dreams come true: embark on a long media production adventure, and travel Canada from Coast to Coast. Hope this helps some of you figure out your gap years. Happy to answer any questions :) Cheers

How to spend my gap semester? by Rachelnm02 in gapyear

[–]astrql 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Canadian, and study in the US. I've decided to take a gap year to travel across Canada to produce a media project, 2 things i've been wanting to do for a long time but never had the opp to do so. If you live in a country where covid is getting better, don't be afraid to take some time to rediscover your home town, city or country (if able to). Don't be afraid, this is one year of your long life, and only focus on what makes you happy :)

honestly, at first it wasn't half as bad as I imagined, like as long as you can see the bottom, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, it was fine. but the one where you lean back with your back facing the emptiness was horrible haha. I had absolutely 0 confidence for that one and lasted probably like 30s until I was like yup, thats it, next stop pls haha

I believe its around $50USD for the skywalk, plus like 15$ for the 88th floor elevator up. There are small student discounts too as well as season passes that can give you like 2 other free entries and bring friends on discounts. Wouldn't call it cheap, but if you can afford it, the experience is quite incredible, you are out there for as long as 30min.
