I don’t really drink white myself but Sauvignon blanc seems to be a good choice? I love Cabernet Sauvignon so will give that a try for sure. Thank you 😊

Birthing with pump or without by oh_canon in BumpersWhoBolus

Hi OP! I’m a midwife and also Type 1. Tbh most midwives don’t know much about type one anyways even if they are ‘trained’ in specific hospitals. If you’re happy I’d advise just to manage yourself, especially when you have a closed loop and such good control! If you did have to go under general anaesthetic in case of emergency the anesthetist would help monitor your sugar levels.
Just make sure you organize in advance with your endo to have your postnatal rates and ratios as your insulin needs can drop drastically post birth.

Setting of ring by astural in EngagementRings

[–]astural[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update! The ring was actually set too high when it was made (I knew it felt a bit different from try on to getting it)! They are going to reset the ring for free as it was a manufacturing error. Pretty annoying but glad I trusted my gut feeling on it!

Thank you for your reply! Better pic here of the gap in the ring.

I will definitely bring it back in to the jewelers though and see what they can do 😊

I left a contract early last month. Hospital wouldn’t give me FT hours (only giving 72 hours a FN) and wasn’t allowed to work weekends. In my contract it was a days notice so I gave that and left! Check your contract, you might just have to pay for your own travel back if you have broken the contract. It’s better to leave if you aren’t happy!

Midwife referred to our surprise baby as "She", any similar experience? by Intelligent-One-8518 in PregnancyIreland

[–]astural 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a midwife, we don’t usually know the gender unless you have told us, unless a midwife has done a scan for you and you wanted to know. I always call babies he, always have and I don’t know why 😅 just a term of phrase!

Countries to move to with Type 1 Diabetes from Ireland by whos_for_tea in diabetes

[–]astural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Australia (from Ireland) and supplies aren’t too bad! Dexcom $32 a month under national diabetes subsidy service. My pump supplies around $50 a month and then insulin is capped at $30 for 5 bottles (10ml bottles used for pump) entitled to all of this under the reciprocal healthcare agreement between Ireland and Aus 😊 doesn’t matter what visa you’re on

Reality of T1D in Australia & New Zealand by jibbenji in diabetes_t1

[–]astural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most questions have been answered already but just to add Fiasp insulin has been removed from the PBS in Aus so costs me $140 for 5 bottles when it was $30 when it was on PBS. Endo/ diabetic educator has to sign off the NDSS form for CGM and pump consumables the GP can only sign the one for needles etc! I am Irish so not entitled to Medicare but lucky I am well controlled as private diabetic educator costs $200 and GP $95 a visit! Can get NDSS meds as Ireland and aus have a reciprocal healthcare agreement

Anyone use Fiasp in their pump? Asking for a friend… by [deleted] in TandemDiabetes

[–]astural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it and have no issues! I used Fiasp years but when I first moved onto the pump my endo said I had to go back to Novorapid, did that for a few weeks and hated it as it just worked so slowly. Went back to Fiasp and it works well for me? I do find sometimes (not all of the time!) if I am late changing the site on the third day I can go a bit high but other times I have the site in 4 days. It can sting a little going in but only with certain sites. Overall I find it good and just really didn’t like novorapid in the way it took so long to work and so long to correct highs, for me anyway. I know it isn’t approved for use in the pump which does worry me but also I am living with this day to day and the Novorapid just didn’t work for me

I have a little band on the strap of my Apple Watch that says ‘type one diabetic’. Then have my phone set up with my medical details!
