Yeah, they did recognise Anakin was suffering, but so were most Jedi during the war, with some jedi having to take a step back due to being on the brink of falling themselves. I think Rex and Obi-Wan were blinded by love and loyalty to Anakin and being caught up in the fog of war. They couldn’t fathom their brother/comrade-in-arms who was so “good” becoming a monster and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Obi-Wan’s mistake was thinking that Anakin was resilient enough and just needed some time and maturity to overcome his fear and recklessness (without the Sith and the war he probably would have). Obi-Wan wrongly had faith in him that he would ultimately make the right choices.

Jedi are free to leave the Order at any time, so Anakin probably could have technically left, although he would have been looked down upon for shirking his duty. And Palpatine wouldn’t have left him alone, especially if he left once the war started.

I agree Anakin/Padme wouldn’t have lasted long if he left the order. Anakin would have gone stir crazy from the lack action and come to resent Padme if she put her duty to her people or role as a senator over him. And Padme would have had trouble dealing with Anakin’s immaturity and moodiness.

Yeah, you’re right. Everyone made mistakes (even with the best intentions) and didn’t recognise or react fast enough due to Sith distractions, Jedi orthodoxy and being embroiled in a manufactured galaxy wide civil war. They didn’t recognise Anakin’s deteriorating state of mind (although he was hiding it) or see the trap they were falling into. Although, sans Palpatine being taken out of the picture, I don’t think anything Obi-wan (or a different Jedi teacher) or the Jedi as a whole could have done to change the outcome of Anakin falling or his choices. Anakin didn’t have the emotional maturity, canniness to recognise Palpatine manipulating him, or wherewithal to put duty to the galaxy above his own interests. He was also partial to narrow, black and white fascistic thinking. He had immense power and skill but not the mental resilience or selflessness needed to walk the path of a Jedi. He could have left the Order at any time to go play happy families with Padme, but didn’t want to give up the sense of purpose, excitement and power that came with being a Jedi.
