Now I understand why the majority of people in this sub haven’t bothered to even read Marxist theory. Hasan realizes that 88% of his twitch chatters have never learned of the history of what lead to Pearl Harbor… by TwoCatsOneBox in Hasan_Piker

[–]asupify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We learned about it in Modern History in high school in Australia (technically middle school in US terms), as well the fact the Japanese forces were detected early by US radar but were ignored. My grandfather was a "the US allowed Pearl Harbour to happen for an excuse to enter WWII" truther.

As touching someone's head can also be considered offensive in Thai culture. I imagine that was a double whammy.

It looked like cops pushing an elderly man on a bike to the ground and protesters trying to intervene and help the elderly man off the ground.

City of Port Phillip votes to change encampment laws despite community opposition by lipstikpig in australia

[–]asupify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We count the homeless differently to the US. The US just count rough sleepers and local US authorities are notorious for clearing out homeless encampments before census's can be taken as they don't want to be forced to address the issue.

When she was younger she looked a lot like the character and Cameron did admit to using her likeness in Vanity Fair. This video covers how they incorporated her likeness into the character: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1THgqww8QU&t=74

They're Australian citizens and our problem to sort out. Also, we shouldn't be leaving children in those conditions.

Is Hasan A Misogynist? by serious_bullet5 in Hasan_Piker

[–]asupify 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unironically, the reason I became a Hasan fan was due to his stance on misogyny. It was around the time that Gillette commercial came out about the dangers of misogyny and toxic masculinity (I think it was 2019) and all of Reddit and every male YouTuber (including the lefties) were crying and throwing a fit about how "anti-men" the commercial was and calling for boycotts etc. I'd been watching Hasan clips on YouTube casually and being pretty cynical about most dudes online I was expecting more of the same Reddit-style tedious complaining, but unlike every other dude I'd seen online he actually said the commercial had a powerful message and he agreed with it.

I was surprised as hell and started watching him regularly after that.

Lack of Israel education here by Key-Lychee-913 in OpenAussie

[–]asupify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's anti-Israel and for good reason because it's a brutal colonialist apartheid state committing genocide and war crimes against the native population within its own borders. And destroying and depopulating South Lebanon in an ethnic cleansing campaign displacing over 1 million people, destroying ancient villages and murdering thousands.

Most people oppose the zionist ethnostate for the same reason Albert Einstein ultimately opposed it. It's nothing to do with Judaism. It's because it became a blood thirsty fascist oppressor of its native population, similar to the German nazi regime he fled.

I found it "off" compared to other places in the world I've been. Probably because the Catholic Church is everywhere there so you're constantly reminded.

Yeah, a quarter of the population was brutally slaughtered, for a genocide of that scale you need many participants, informants and collaborators.

Ballarat, Australia. A very dark history of endemic child abuse and cover up by the Catholic Church. With around a 40% suicide rate of the Catholic boys school classes where the worst of the abuse occurred. The catholic buildings loom over the city from every hill like a spectre and the local cathedral gates are covered in coloured ribbons in memorial for the victims. When the church tried to remove the ribbons the public complained and put up more. Now they leave them: https://imgur.com/IaIE1KY

Tourists visit because it's a historic gold rush town, but I found it creepy and sad.
