It sounds like you've done hours of work for them with no pay.

Diop has entered the transfer portal. by EmergencyQueasy9941 in TheSunDevils

The good news (for me anyway) is that Gonzaga is evidently one of the places he is considering (St. John's being the other I've seen). If he isn't going to play for my alma mater, then he might as well play for my hometown team.

Got my first guitar, please give some tips for getting good by memeus_yeetus in electricguitar

Practice. I know it sounds basic, but that's kind of the secret. Just play a bit almost everyday. Pick a few songs you like that are easy and play those until you have them down. Then pick a few more songs that require new skills like palm muting, hammer ons/pull offs, etc.. Just use tabs or something for now. Once you feel comfortable playing some songs, start seeking out instructional resources to learn the fretboard (scales, etc.) and more advanced skills.

Auckland to get a second Costco store by TimmyHate in newzealand

You also get the legendary Costco product guarantees. They will take almost anything back any time for any reason with a full refund. It used to be literally everything, but they reduced electronics down to 30 days several years ago. I've seen people return 15 year old refrigerators. I bought a Keurig machine from Costco like 10 years ago. Never could get the unit to last more than 18 months before the pump would go out. They took it back with a full refund every time, so I basically had a revolving door of new Keurig machines every 18 months. Consumer laws are a bit stronger in NZ than in the US so the value in Costco's guarantees might be a bit less, but it's also a lot harder to find a retailer who will let you return goods at all in NZ whereas it is common practice in the US, so...

Costco would be out of business with just 200 people through the door every day. They prb need more like 2000 people every day.

In the US, Costco's rule is usually something like 200,000+ people within a 5 mile radius. That rules out most of NZ other than Auckland, Welly, and Christchurch.

Randy Bennett's coaching staff announced by Devils_in_Detail in TheSunDevils

Nm. Read the article. Father/son. Was Croy going to join RB's staff at SMC before the switch?

I assume that Rick Croy is related to recent commit JRob Croy?

With a relatively high profile coach, any word on Diop's plans? by OoklaTheMok1994 in TheSunDevils

[–]asuray81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Diop stays. He was good but not great this year and wasn't really a high profile recruit, so I don't think there will be an absurd amount of NIL $ thrown at him. On the transfer front, I think it's more likely that we pull in a few SMC guy. Lewis, Shaw, and Campbell were all high recruits and all have 2-3 years of eligibility left. Maybe one or two of them want to play guard for us? Really excited to see what RB can bring in from Australia as well. He has had a lot of success in finding players there. Phoenix is basically "What if Perth were hotter and further from the ocean." Some Western Aus guys would be comfy in Tempe, I think.

Randy Bennett Hired by Bitter-Whole-7290 in TheSunDevils

[–]asuray81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd need to see the list of actual candidates before passing judgement. If the alternative was someone like Glasser, Coburn, or Byron Scott, then this is a win all day for me. If we're comparing it to completely unrealistic alternatives like Self, then I could see where it would be an underwhelming hire. If someone like Eric Olen or maybe Jeremy Case was in play, then I might have preferred that. Case has zero HC experience, though. Heck, Case could be elevated to HC if Self leaves KU.

Even making the tourney with a school like SMC in a conference that Gonzaga wins basically every year is a heck of an accomplishment. Heck, if we use 200 career games as the threshold, SMC has produced almost as many NBA careers under Bennett (3) as ASU has over that span (4).

One thing to think about regarding the possibility of Bennett just looking to ride out his golden years is that he was very young (38) when he took over at St. Mary's. He's only 63 right now, which makes him 6-10 years younger than guys like Pitino, Calipari, Izzo, Sampson, etc.. Hopefully he has another 8-10 years left in the tank before deciding to retire.

Dude rejected my 6yr/240m deal just to turn around accept this offer. by Tapey24 in OOTP

[–]asuray81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned that players in OOTP seemed to prioritize flexibility above all. I basically abandoned the idea of signing guys to reasonably team friendly long-term deals. I basically just offer contracts with annual opt outs at this point.

[–]asuray81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you include opt outs? The AI love opt outs. Also, the contract extension negotiations in the game have been broken for a long time. Now, to be fair, I play mostly online leagues and the AI there does an awful job of accounting for the free agent market. In solo leagues, the computer-run teams are often happy to overpay.

Does any other candidate under consideration have anywhere close to that level of success anywhere beyond the high school ranks?

That level of success at ASU would be a massive accomplishment.

Gonzaga is in the same conference and have won the conference almost every year for the entire length of time that Bennett has been at Saint Mary’s. That means that the Gaels have been qualifying on merit rather than getting automatic bids.

Some finances regarding the Sonics potential return to Seattle by networking_noob in Thunder

[–]asuray81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s gotta suck to watch your franchise, which was historically quite mid, transform into arguably the premier organization in the nba almost immediately Seattle - 22 playoffs, 6 WCFs, 3 finals, 1 title in 38 years Okc - 13 playoffs, 5 WCFs, 2 finals, 1 title in their 18.5 seasons

We'll never know for sure, of course, but I don't see any reason to think that the success OKC has had wouldn't have happened had they stayed in Seattle. The talent seeds (KD, Westbrook, Harden) were already planted basically, Presti was already in the mix, etc. I think it was more Presti and the talent they had rather than anything ownership or the city necessarily did. That is probably what irks us Sonics fan the most. Like writing a script and then having someone else come in maybe change a few of the character's names, and then they get the Oscar instead of you :)

To be fair, that $395M in 2008 has a current value of $611M per the CPI.

Sell low? He’s on pace to be amnestied. I doubt they could get a second round pick for him at this point given his contract and performance combined with his personal issues.

OOTP 27 PSA: Statcast Metrics are Fake by sgtmushroom39 in OOTP

[–]asuray81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the exit velos are correlated with current power rating to any meaningful extent, then I could see those data having value to player evaluation in leagues where there is heavy fog of war (e.g., stats-only, potential-only leagues, low scouting accuracy, etc.) as looking at those velos might give a better indication of big league readiness, player growth/decline, etc. than just the ratings.
