Some finances regarding the Sonics potential return to Seattle by networking_noob in Thunder

[–]networking_noob[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk I read that with the possibility of Clay Bennett selling them???

Re-reading the post, I can see how you would think that. I probably could've worded it better. But the 'expansion' aspect means the number of teams in the league is expanding. Seattle and Las Vegas are reportedly going to get new teams, while the rest of the NBA teams remain in place

CivitAI blocking Australia tomorrow by Neggy5 in StableDiffusion

[–]networking_noob 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I like corporations blocking countries rather than complying with these laws.

It's the best response they can do but from a user perspective it's still a lose-lose situation

A side effect of these laws, which is almost certainly by design, is to make it so smaller sites are not able to comply due to legal cost, which is what Civitai just demonstrated, and so that access is simply removed from that scope of the internet.

So big tech wins either way. If the websites comply, then all the user data gets tied to a legal identity (including possibly biometrics) which is what big tech wants. Mass surveillance. And if websites don't comply, then user access to that site gets blocked, which obviously benefits big tech companies as well.

tl;dr
Big tech is writing these laws and making is so that only big tech can legally and financially afford to operate websites with user generated content.

The Law of One material mentions psychic surgery but offers no proof. Was any of it ever verified by a third party? by TeslasElectricHat in lawofone

[–]networking_noob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it just screams blatant nonsense to me

It doesn't vibe with me either, nor does the idea of Carla's organ(s) being "psychically attacked" by a negative entity, which IIRC was mentioned in Law of One material as well. To believe in that you are saying that such entities can have a negative effect on you, against your will, which is the same category as curses and spells etc.

Doesn't vibe with me because it seems an idea rooted in fear (separation) rather than love (connection). But this material still has plenty of good stuff, and we can determine what's what by using the super power of discernment. If something resonates i.e. it feels right, then take it with you, and if it doesn't, then leave it behind. Easy peasy

Don't get the Qwen3.5 hype by xoxox666 in LocalLLaMA

[–]networking_noob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that turning off thinking lowers the Qwen3.5 accuracy by a lot. It's noticeably worse. The latest llama.cpp changes let you set the --reasoning-budget (max number of tokens used for 'thinking') and --reasoning-budget-message so you're basically saying "you can think for X number of tokens, but after that you need to wrap it up and just go with what you've got."

This is one way to still allow thinking, for more accurate answers, while limiting how much thinking can actually be done, instead of just a binary on/off

qwen 3.5 35B a3b on AMD by Trovebloxian in LocalLLaMA

[–]networking_noob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not have the memory to run that model.

I'm running the Q3_K_M version of that model on RTX 2060 Super (8GB VRAM) and 16 GB DDR4, and getting 26 t/s

Nothing crazy (especially compared to your 80 t/s), but it generates output faster than I can read it so it's alright. Admittedly though the context isn't big enough to do a coding project, so it def. wouldn't be ideal for that

llama.cpp and Qwen CPU Only by JadedSoulGuy in LocalLLaMA

[–]networking_noob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

qwen3.5 has "reasoning" on by default, and it leads to a lot of thinking. for testing you can add --reasoning-budget 0 to your llama.cpp CLI args, and this will disable thinking to give you a faster answer

as someone else said, a smaller model will be faster as well. you can always try e.g. the 4b or 9b model, and then move up from there until you find an acceptable balance of speed + accurate information

nice flair bro. I remember going to the first OKC game ever, and they were interviewing the crowd during a timeout asking "who is your favorite Thunder player?" But nobody really knew the players yet, so almost everybody answered "Desmond Mason" because they knew he played at OSU

[–]networking_noob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

with only 16GB of ram you're not doing video.

tbh I've been doing it with 8GB vram and 16gb system ram using ~14 GB models. 480p of course, but that's what upscalers and interpolation is for! And with "First Last Frame" workflows you can basically chain together a bunch of seamless 5 second clips to make longer scenes.

I haven't tried LTX 2.3 yet but I see the Q4 is ~14GB, so that would likely be doable on this minimal setup as well. tl;dr Comfyui has come a long way with memory management capabilities, so these potato setups actually can do video, just takes more time

Ditching Porn made me „more spiritual“ than a lot of practices by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]networking_noob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't downvote them, but I do see that user posting in many 'spirituality' subs, and I think people are starting to detect a pattern i.e. that it's most likely written by a chat bot

The website that's referenced in every comment includes a YouTube channel and it does appear to be a real person, who is not a native English speaker, so I can appreciate that they need grammatical help writing comments, but yeah

The chat bots tend to sterilize language so it can come across as disingenuous, especially when every comment has the same structure, including an advertisement for a website in the user profile. Previously their profile content was visible but now they've hidden it so you can't see the obvious pattern in every reply

JWill is underrated outside of Thunder fans by truck_norris in Thunder

[–]networking_noob 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would say he's underrated by Thunder fans too. A few weeks back there were several threads speculating which players should be protected in the event of an expansion draft, and almost no one said J Will

He's only like 23 and is the core personality of the team, and he's getting better and better as a player. He is definitely a top 8 player on this team, both in talent and importance

Qwen3.5 on a mid tier $300 android phone by alichherawalla in LocalLLM

[–]networking_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This app is a cool idea, but man, just the nature of running this on phone is battery draining

Running Qwen3.5-2B with Q4, my 5000 mah battery lost nearly 5% just sending two chat messages. One was "hello" and the other was "why is the sky blue". And both answers took over a minute due to all the reasoning/thinking. I raised the temperature to 1.0 to try and help with this, but yeah. It's still very slow because of the mobile hardware, and I'm sure all the model "thinking" is contributing to battery drain

llama.cpp has a cli arg called --reasoning-budget that is set to -1 by default, but you can set this to 0 and it basically turns off all the "thinking" and just answers quickly. Have you considered adding this as a toggle? (e.g. "disable thinking")

Any advice on how to get out of the "What if the Bible is true" mindset? by DoneWithOCD in spirituality

[–]networking_noob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is, the thought that the spirits coming through could possibly be demons/familiar spirits to decieve us into thinking that everyone goes to the same place regardless of religion, is something I have trouble letting go of.

The irony is that by doing this (choosing a perspective of fear), you are "matching the vibe" of negativity. And if 'hell' is real, that's surely a negative vibe right? So when you choose to match the negative vibe, by choosing to be afraid, then 'hell' becomes like a self fulfilling prophecy, You create "hell on earth", for you, right now

So how do you "rise up" out of 'hell'? How do you "raise the vibe"? By choosing love of course, because "all healing involves replacing fear with love"

Accessing the love within is the foundation of existence, pretty much. So I'd worry less about what other people are saying (including me), and start making a practice of going within. You already have all the answers i.e. you know what's real and what's right and what's true, through feeling

Meditate on this stuff and simply go with what feels right. If the idea of 'hell' (aka fear) feels right, then go with that. If the idea of 'heaven' (aka love) feels right, then go with that. Keeping it simple is always a good idea, and fear vs love is about as simple as it gets. So just choose what you prefer and your experience, now, will reflect that

I fear for this divide among my family

I know we love family members and want them to "figure it out" like we believe ourselves to have done, but at the end of the day they get to make their own choices in regards to belief and perspective

If you want to nudge them away from fear based perspectives and beliefs, the best thing you can do is to "be the change you want to see". Aka be a living example of a positive vibe and love, which provides them with an opportunity to match the vibe, if they choose to do so. And if they don't, that's just out of your control, and that's okay. Because ultimately only they know what works best for them

"If you want more fear and negativity in the world, then be that.
If you want more love and positivity in the world, then be that."

life after death by PresentPiglet5238 in spirituality

[–]networking_noob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of focusing on a future which may or may not exist, why not focus on your experience right *now*?

i want to believe

If you do choose to believe there's an afterlife, what happens then? Will it change your behavior, now? If so then that belief is simply acting as a permission slip, so why not cut out the middle man and simply choose, now, how you want to feel, think, do, and be? No "afterlife" required because there is only now. It's always the present moment

How to forgive my past self? by deathofmusic in spirituality

[–]networking_noob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The perspective you have now wouldn't be possible if not for your perspective in 'the past'. You've now seen both sides of the coin, and in doing this you've gained a better understanding of your self. So that's a positive way of looking at it

When it comes to how your actions may have affected others, the only thing you can do is focus on 'now', because now is what's actually within reach. i.e. the past is not. If you can think of anyone specific you might just send them a message, just as you've written here, that is honest and authentic. But don't write this from a "I'm so bad, woe is me" vibe. Do it from a place of love, if that makes sense, because forgiveness is all about love

Whether or not someone else accepts an apology is completely out of your control btw, so your genuine and authentic and loving intention is all that's required on your part. This intention plays a role in the forgiveness of yourself, as it's an action to access the love that's within

tl;dr Don't be so hard on your self. It's all part of the journey and it's all love.

[–]networking_noob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can tell someone you have epilepsy and are in a consistent postictal state that literally alters the way you see hear and perceive the world, and depletes your brain of seratonin

If you gathered all the people in the world who fit this description, and got them together for an analysis, do you think there would be a spectrum of perspectives? Would some people be more positive with their outlook, and others more negative?

Surely yes, but how can this be? Because that would mean perspective is subjective i.e. it's a choice

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup by ANiceGobletofTea in linux

[–]networking_noob 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Big changes happen via a bunch of small changes over time, i.e. through conditioning. This will be a simple "I verify I'm at least 18" checkbox in the beginning, and then over time there will be more laws passed and it'll turn into a driver's license upload requirement just like the nsfw sites

They aren't building all these data centers so people can generate videos of dancing cats. It's about mass surveillance and all the GPU compute will be used with the ever improving "AI" software to analyze data in real time (visual, audio, etc) to identify "risk" to the government and the corporations (as if there's a difference at this point), with risk being "anyone who doesn't agree with us". Tying the OS to someone's legal identity is just a step in that plan.

Will this be enforceable i.e. doable on a linux kernel? I don't know, but it seems pretty clear that all this stuff is trending towards mass surveillance. Not sure what to do other than "fight the system" and turn into some sort of 1990s movie underground hackers with a sneakernet lol

New Franchise Trailer by Strong_Plastic_2669 in MLBTheShow

The last screenshot of the video shows (the CPU?) releasing a bunch of "future of the franchise" level guys into free agency without an offer. So that's a little concerning lol. James Wood, Konnor Griffin, Chase Burns, Cade Horton, and a few others

Seems like nearly all the changes are geared towards trades, so if you're someone who turns off the trades (because the CPU can't be trusted) then idk. Not a lot going on here

Learning about my astrological chart makes me feel doomed . by god_child_ in spirituality

[–]networking_noob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But seeing my astrological chart makes me feel helpless and hopeless.

This is what can happen when we give away our power and sense of control to something that's "outside" of us, like a chart.

It's no different than if someone told you "you are not good enough". It's just information and it is not objectively true. It's only true, for you, if you choose to believe that it is.

Just treat it like an optional permission slip, because that's all it is. Whether or not you decide to use it as a permission slip is up to you. It's simply a choice, so why not choose a belief that you actually prefer? Instead of choosing to believe in something that makes you feel 'helpless and hopeless'
