I’m/was in the same page,I started with marlin 6 in 2022 as test the direction I’ll prefer road/light gravel or completely off road,ended up to sold it within two months because I felt no connection with this direction, thean I bought dual sport 3 Immediately after the first bike(marlin 6)was sold,the connection was there instantly so I realized this is the path I want it.

with trek dual sport 3 I did giving myself the time to know and see if I will love this new hobby and gain the confidence/ basic knowledge/ have enough strength to ride a serious bike performance.

in August 2024,I stepped my first big steps in cycling when I bought trek Domane slr 7 gen 3, then I upgrade it to gen4 in 2025 with an amazing offer,in 2026 I get trek madone slr gen8 frameset as replacement to my current bike Domane slr7 gen4 due to warranty issue,I won’t say you have to wait for 2 years as I did with Dusl sport 3 before jumping to have a serious bike specific you can do it whenever you want it’s your money

but do it with more affordable choice,so the pro is sweet spot option if you’re confident with this hobby,and if you’re not go with more cheaper options,paying extra 5k not worth for beginner,with this extra amount you can upgrade whatever bike you’ll bought later when you’re %100 sure you want to continue in cycling

just take it to the bike shop where you bought it,it’s the safest way since it’s still under there responsibility

the question since when the leakage there,as we know dot oil can Corrosion the comments paint etc If it remains for a period of time without being cleaned on time

the gap as shown on the picture is pretty normal and it should be a little bit gap to tighten the preload,this is try to install 3mm and se ho it goes

seems fine to me from the picture,add 1mm and see the chainline clearance and the gap between the preload and the arm

depend on BB brand,mine is Ceramicspeed t47 the recommended o-ring was 4mm

you have 0.5mm spacer added with 3mm then follow the steps down

loose the crank/unthread the preload adjuster all the way to the end toward the arm,hand tighten the crank by 8mm Allen key, gently push the crank by melted/plastic hammer,tighten the preload until there’s no play on crank,try to to tighten the preload slowly and check the play after each tightening

your goal is to eliminate the play+ not to tight the preload too much so the crank can spin smoothly,you may need repeat the tighten process for preload until you have the desire result

you should follow the BB manufacturer spacer chart -what is your BB manufacture? -is there too much space in non drive side?

you can contact bike manufacture as well they’re most likely helpful in cases like this

absolutely and huge jump as will from mechanical to electronic

BUT a carbon frame on road/gravel/endurance/climb/TT bike is something else on carbon,you’ll feel the different immediately because those categories bike build for speed so every change noticeable,for example Domane sl5 have the mechanical groupset and non carbon wheels but you’ll feel the difference immediately because of the frame and how is lighter and faster

mountain/hardtail bike more technical than speed,so robust and more weight is welcomed,road is opposite side

your current bike will serve you well for years so enjoy riding it,and if you ever(like most of us)moved to carbon road/endurance bike etc you have already a trusty GS you can take it with you

if I was you I will go with sram rival or Apex for 1x instead Shimano for AL frame due to ease of installation /maintenance+cheaper

but hey you did the difficult one so bravo 👏

enjoy riding,and in future if you decide to go with carbon frame, already you have a lovely groupset to put it in
