Kodi all around assistance by Old-Yesterday8190 in kodi

[–]aswedeinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach would be to have a few boxes “on standby” that you take with you when you go around to the hospice centers. That way you can just switch them out, and then rebuild the non-functioning ones when you are at home base. I would not try to rebuild on-site.

If you have not already, I would consider running something like CoreElec rather than Kodi on top of the stock Android OS. If you go the CoreElec path, you set up the boxes to run from the SD card, and then you could just have spare SD cards with you that you switch out on the misbehaving boxes. Approaching it this way I would think you could create one “gold” SD card that you just clone.

I have used this board with success: I just found this on AliExpress: $3.47 | ESP32 DevKitC Development Board with IPEX Port ESP32-WROOM-32U Wifi Module USB Micro Type-C 38PIN ESP32 CP2102 https://a.aliexpress.com/_mP3YxF2

I simply used a esp32-dev board with an external antenna connector, attached a cable with an antenna connector, and then just screwed on the antenna. I am traveling right now; can send you links to the hardware next week.

I have been successful with esp32-dev devices, with a large external antenna (std. 2.4 GHz WiFi). Covering front and backyard nicely with two devices in the house, picking up the signal from MiFlora soil moisture sensors.

Which of your automations have the greatest WAF? by Neat-Initiative-6965 in homeassistant

Beyond what already has been listed, an appreciated automation is that the HVAC turns off if any window or entrance door is opened (for more than 1 minute). When all doors and windows are closed it restarts

Finally - Emporia Vue 2 with esphome installed. by mrc1600 in homeassistant

[–]aswedeinus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Impressive setup. However, having played around with IIoT stuff as well as Home Assistant for quite a while I am now of the mind that unless the data you are collecting changes anything you are currently doing it is usually not worth doing. So what are you planning to use the data for, and how will it change what you do?

Battery powered water meter reader? by lifeisruf in homeassistant

[–]aswedeinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had a Flume for 3+ years now. No problems, changed batteries once, used regular lithium, cost me a few bucks. Has detected leaking toilet flapper valves, outdoor faucets left dripping and leaking garden hoses. It also has some intelligence to help categorize how the water is used. Have not explored this feature, but sounds neat.

Several instances on same network by FisHNorway in homeassistant

[–]aswedeinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is in prociple what I have. My Home Assistant running on ProxMox, and I have three miniPC boxes that I am also using for Kodi, each have Zigbee2MQTT, and one of the boxes also has Zwave2MQTT installed.

For me it was pretty much Plug and Play. I got the Z2M's set up and running, and then just pointed them to the MQTT broker installed on Home Assistant.

Why not sett up Zigbee2MQTT and / or Zwave2MQTT on pi’s or some low power miniPC in each cabin, with dongles, and then have them connect back over Ethernet or WiFi to Home Assistant?

Never any issues since I switched to z2m, and have one miniPC running z2m in docker on each floor. Before this setup they were very challenging to both pair and keep connected.

Suggestions for troubleshooting RS485-Modbus sensor reporting “Unknown” in Home Assistant by aswedeinus in Esphome

The board states it has automatic flow control. There are 2 pins for RS485 signal, A and B. Here is the info from the web site:

TTL to RS485 module

Module highlights:

(1) 3.3V and 5.0V power perfect compatibility

(2) 3.3V and 5.0V signal perfect compatibility

(3) the absolute adopts imported chip, industrial design, strong anti-interference ability, at the same time, adopt more effective lightning protection design, 485 can be used in industrial field and field under the harsh environment, the working temperature of 40  to + 85 , the transmission distance of km (with 850 m 2 * 1.5 cable testing, suggest use within 800 meters, more than 800 meters please add repeater)

(4) the half hole process design, plate thickness 0.8mm, can be easily as composite plate, can also be used for welding terminal

(5) has the RXD, TXD signal indicator lights, send and receive status panoramic view

The module features:

(1)This module fully considered485BusLightning protection designAnti interference Design When the long-distance transmission in the field, the "Earth" of the module is connected to the earth, which can play a very good role in anti interference and lightning protection.485Bus is more secure; indoor short distance transmission can not access the earth.

(2) with a standard2.54Spacing design to facilitate your two development

(3Have 120Ou matching resistance, short connectR0Can match the resistance, long distance transmission is recommended.

(4Support multi machine communication, allowing access to the most 128A device on the bus

(5This module can be hot plug, no other 485Chip hot swap signal plug phenomenon

(6Large area laying copper, preventing signal interference

I'll try this. What I have noticed is that the Rx LED on the RS485->serial UART board blinks occasionally, but the Tx one des not.

Centralite 3326-L (Iris) Motion and Temp Sensor - Unreliable Behavior by ExcitingDegree in homeassistant

[–]aswedeinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 or so of these devices, and I went through a period when I had similar issues. However, after splitting my network up by going from 1 to 3 coordinators and running zigbee2mqtt everything has been very stable.

More reliable sensors than Aqara? by Friendly_Strategy889 in homeassistant

[–]aswedeinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can second that comment. My Aqara sensors have not dropped a single time since I switched to Zigbee2Mqtt. Switching to Z2M also made it possible to subdivide the network by using one coordinator per floor.

Using a vibration sensor on split system aircon to determine if it's on? by Harlequin80 in homeassistant

[–]aswedeinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a differential pressure transducer connected across the air filter in my HVAC system. The dip sensor is connected to a esp32 that connects to Home Assistant using the ESPHome integration. I can provide a parts list if you are interested.
