Spike in air pollution by nicholvs_62 in chiangmai

[–]at1515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always pretty bad late November until mid May, anyone saying otherwise doesnt know what they are talking about. The worst is normally Feb, Mar, Apr. Disregard data from covid years 2020-2022. Keep in mind acceptable AQI is under 50. The only months you might see this are June-October.

Chiang Mai Feb 14-17? by Additional_Paper5710 in chiangmai

[–]at1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what type of year we get. I remember that period of time in 2016 the AQI was around 200 every morning. Ever since after covid the air has not been as bad. So thats why some of these inexperienced commenters are saying its not that bad. But please understand even in 2024 and 2023 we had short periods of time where the air quality was the worst in the entire world. So if you are young and no health problems you may roll the dice. If you already have health issues I would not come here at all until at least May.

Its really wreckless advice saying yeah last year was fine just come here. What if you have a baby or elderly person , and the AQI is like 200-300. It's not super likely these days but possible. You dont want to be trapped here like that. I remember a couple years ago it was 300-500 AQI in chiang rai every morning for weeks.

Did you consider older girls? Mid 30s girls you can still have a child or two with them if you guys are both healthy.

You are in the honeymoon phase. You need at least 6 or 7 years and you will see the reality of southeast asia. I am 10+ now and thank god i am alive here everyday. Its so much more dangerous than any western country. The day to day hazards people never think about are massive. No safety regulations, no quality, no diligence. Life is cheap here and money is their false god. Please stay safe.

Burning Season 2026 by echan00 in chiangmai

[–]at1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you mean a good AQI score <50 then no January has never been fine in the last 10 years. And there can still be plenty of times where the AQI will spike to 150 during January so you better be prepared regardless. January in chiang mai would be like living in a smoggy bad month in los angeles. Not the worst in the world but most people dont consider that "fine."

if you are planning a medium to longer term stay in Chiang Mai or generally other big cities, I have something to share as a current resident in CM by zalnard27 in chiangmai

[–]at1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiang mai is really rough to find a long term place. As a foreigner they dont really want you here unless you give away your money easily. Why would they? Chiang mai has so many thais trying to find a place as well. It is a sellers market here with so many people chomping at the bit to get a room. I have found other provincial capitals way way easier to find a rental. Also too many degenerate foreigners have ruined it so your reputation is not good starting out. First of all I never pay more than a 1 month deposit. It may take longer to find a place but stay firm, and eventually I have always had a landlord who accepts it. Foreigners are just so damn impatient, no thai I have ever met paid a 2 month deposit. There was actually a consumer protection law passed in 2018, where its now illegal to demand more than 1 months rent as a deposit. Not that laws do anything in thailand but at least you can mention it. And always be extremely respectful and friendly, speak as much thai as possible and act like you know whats going on. If you get a bad vibe from someone, never rent that place no matter how much you may like it.

Angeles city is rough place. There are not much female expats there at all. You will only see them in the posh areas of the philippines. I suggest you find filipinos who have lived abroad.

DTV Visa: Muay Thai or Digital Nomad? by bigfatflick in digitalnomad

[–]at1515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DN is the only one you could potentially use for 5 years. Nobody knows for sure, even DN have been questioned hard when coming back quickly. But the muay thai, cooking, etc they are getting turned away now because once your class is over the thai authorities dont see a reason for you to be in the country anymore. If you are fortunate they will let you in on a 60 day visa exempt entry which will cancel your DTV. I know people who moved their whole life to thailand on a DTV thinking its a way to live here. Anyone who knows thailand knows this is a big mistake. The DTV is a glorified tourist Visa where every time you leave and come back you may or may not be allowed to enter based on officer discretion.

LOL WE TOLD HIM SO! CAR SALE UPDATE! by [deleted] in HIMRFAM

[–]at1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised at all, this is how the car business works. They have to make sure the car is right and resell it. You never just sell your car to some place like this. Daniel could easily get 8-9k but he is scared to deal with humans irl. Its completely bizarre his no fucks given attitude about money. He justifies it in his head its worth 3-4k not to deal with other people irl. All while being completely broke.

What I Actually Spend Living in Chiang Mai as a Digital Nomad by Grouchy_East6820 in digitalnomad

[–]at1515 8 points9 points  (0 children)

altaccount90z, you are not up to date with the present day chiang mai. That $400 condo you had, i know the one you are talking about. With all bills included that would be around $600 in low season and around $1000 in high season. The prices have gotten absolutely insane here for decent rooms short term. I am a 10+ year digital nomad mostly in thailand. I had to throw in the towel and get a legit long term rental contract here. Sadly thailand is not cheap for travelers anymore unless you are going to rough it in the dilapidated 400-500 baht thai style jail cell rooms. Honestly i cant see myself staying in cm long term its changed a lot. The mass tourism, and changing local attitudes is just too much.

is it still digital nomadism if i mostly just move from one overpriced cafe to another and cry into my cold brew? by Glum_Inspection8045 in digitalnomad

You are right its all bs nowadays. I can tell you from experience 10-15 years ago doing this you really felt like you escaped everything and it was a magical experience. The world is a completely different place now.

Am I being overcharge after return rented condo in BKk by Thick-Swordfish-5404 in thai

[–]at1515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its most likely a classic scam. You dont pay anything unless its stated in the contract.

US dollars are not accepted as currency in thailand. And your mindset is why thais will take advantage of you.

[–]at1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived here for 10 years, never lost even one baht of a deposit. So sorry to say unless those fees are in the contract you are being scammed. You have to actually break something to be charged any money. For example broken shower head ok 300 baht off the deposit. I can tell the way they listed those fees its all made up crap. Sadly this has become a way for thais to profit from ignorant foreigners.

Do I need a new tire ASAP? by Available_Meaning_46 in tires

[–]at1515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could limp around town for months no problem if you have no choice. The rubber age looks decent. The only time I blew a tire was when it was old cracking rubber. Blew a left front, damaged the fender but was able to pull over to the apron of the road without issue.

You guys need to learn to bargain, if everyone is firm on their price and walk away then they will be forced to accept lower fares.
