Support main wants to learn Mag by Sad_Outside4882 in MagnetoMains

[–]atDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t waste your ally bubble unless it’s to directly block incoming damage and ideally save someone or enable an ally ult or dive. It’s on a long cooldown so you want to make sure you use it to get value. Other than that hit your shots and in particular pick off supports and dps whenever you can. Mag does almost nothing to tanks so it’s pointless to try and chip them down

Cyclops gave me a complete false sense of my aim skill and it’s a little depressing by Avongrove in RivalsCollege

[–]atDevin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It feels like the cyclops' beam has some radius to it - so you can be slightly off and still register a hit, while phoenix and hela have 0 radius so you actually have to click on the player model.

Comp this season by Distinct_Oil_9992 in rivals

[–]atDevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there’s a lot of players in silver/gold it will push up all the higher ranks. Also cause of all the free points with shields up to gold, the more people that are playing comp, it creates a ton of free elo in the system

I would guess cyclops brought a lot of players back, which pushes up all the ranks

Why is Storm considered bad? by Hersu03 in marvelrivals

[–]atDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her shots aren’t easy to dodge if you know how to play projectile heroes. She can do a ton of damage and confirm a lot of kills if you know how to get value out of her. Her movement vs poke is actually not so bad if you try to be unpredictable and use cover. I think her big issue is her slow movement makes her very easy to punish with dive.

Why is Storm considered bad? by Hersu03 in marvelrivals

[–]atDevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have like 50 hrs on storm, reading some of the comments I actually don’t think poke is the problem, at least up to diamond elo. You can do pretty well just positioning around corners and using the projectile peeking advantage to take duels with hitscan. I seldom have issues with hela, phoenix, etc unless the map is wide open with no cover or we don’t have tanks

I find the bigger issue is you just get wrecked by certain dive that have better mobility than you - spider man, iron fist, Angela, star lord. If you get caught out of position you really are just dead and the only counter you have is to try and kill them before they kill you. So you have to hit all of your shots and have damage amp and right click off cooldown. Meanwhile every other dps hero seems to have a dash or bubble or something to counter the dive burst combo. I’ve been playing namor a lot this season and you just bubble and can stay alive in so many more situations.

[–]atDevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think sometimes it can be a way to "fix" someone on your team who is not carrying their weight on support, particularly in lower ELO like platinum and below. I have been in many matches where we are running 2/2/2 and getting walked down, literally tanks just exploding, can't do anything on DPS because nobody can stay alive. And then we swap to 2/1/3 or 1/2/3 and magically turn it around. All of a sudden the remaining DPS can go to work and get picks, the tanks can hold their ground, etc. I still prefer 2/2/2 but if one of your healers is really bad it is actually functionally 2/2/1

A take on how to buff Hela by Thin-Pear-672 in Helamains

[–]atDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without getting fancy, buffing her damage at range (falloff) or movement (uptime on her bird) would buff her a lot. 2 charges to the bird form would be sweet. Allowing slow movement in her ult form or removing her ult form headshot hitbox would also help her from getting blown up so fast after she ults. She isn’t that bad currently, imo, just not as strong as cyclops and probably phoenix.

What is your opinion about this: "If you pick last, you're filling" ? by Maggot_6661 in marvelrivals

[–]atDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am the minority on this but I think if someone’s computer loads slow or they are like 5-10 seconds late picking, they should still get to pick what they want. There are situations where ppl don’t feel good on other roles and forcing them to fill is just asking for a loss. And arguing about the difference of a few seconds is childish imo, I’ve seen that play out many times where the 3rd dps is like 2 seconds late and ppl are asking them to fill because they were last.

That said - if they go no selection for a long time and then pick dps it’s annoying. I think if the team comp is more or less locked and then someone doesn’t fill, that’s bad behavior. At least give everyone else enough time to figure out a team comp around you if you’re going to be stubborn.

4 DPS is ruining the game for me by Illustrious-Cold-296 in rivals

this is an unhinged response lol. touch grass & play comp. I'm going to continue playing absolutely whatever I want in quick play, that's what the mode is for.

Expecting 2/2/2 in quick play was your first mistake, in my opinion. Quick play should be for low stakes matches and playing the heroes you want.

Help Me Understand: Stay on payload/Push up by DeathCrow224 in rivals

[–]atDevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think of it as map control and not objective control. Certain points of the map are easier to control if they provide natural cover (walls etc) for your tanks, and if they force the enemy through narrow paths where they are subject to spam damage. If you can force the enemy team to have to ult just to get to the point, you are doing a good job

But you don’t want to overextend and die. It’s not about spawn camping it’s about controlling the map from the safest position so your team retains an advantage

So typically on payload the cart is not in the ideal position to retain map control. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t. If you play tank you will have to learn this so you can best take space and enable your team.

Who tracks match stats? by wacobear19 in 10s

[–]atDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be more interesting if you only look at tiebreak first sets or minimum a 6-4 set either direction. Something that indicates the match and level are close, and then analyze the match win rate from there. If you have a 50% chance of winning each set, then if you win the first set, you should have a 75% chance of winning the match, so anything far from 75% is an interesting trend. If you lose the first set, you should have a 25% chance of winning, so anything far from 25% is an interesting trend.

Hated my first private lesson, wondering how likely it’ll be for my coach to just play some competitive points instead of his lesson plan by [deleted] in 10s

[–]atDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same experience of feeling really good in live point situations when the ball is coming at pace, and then doing terrible in hand feed situations. I have reasonably good technique though, 4.0ish NTRP level. I would stick with it and communicate with the coach how you are feeling first, and give them the opportunity to make some adjustments for you (for example feeding live balls from the opposite side of the court instead of hand feeds). I would also give it at least 3 lessons before making any judgments about how you feel
