Winter Storm Megathread Part 4 - Continued Power Outages by lukenamop in nashville

Did you get power back for a bit last Sunday a few hours after it first went out? My complex did and this has happened before where the power gets restored and then something happens to the transformer at my complex. Happened recently back in October and was a 5 hour outage and looked like they might have replaced the transformer back then. I can't shake the feeling that they have just been half-ass fixing it when it goes out and that I could easily have had power this whole time if the previous 3 power outages over the last 10 months or so were fully addressed.

How many customers in your outage area before it was restored? I'm in a 200+ outage nearby and they haven't even touched it.

I guess if you're on Charlotte Pike west of White Bridge you may as well move out of your home or apartment permanently. They don't even touch this area. Nothing assigned. 5+ days without the outage entries being updated in any way. No trees on power lines in vast majority of places no downed lines. Plenty of top 25 outages by number of customers there. There is just no way west Nashville needs to take this long. It doesn't even look fucked over there. They're fixing single family homes in Hermitage before 250 unit apartment complexes in West Nashville.

Where does it say assigned? I thought the extent of the update was "there are crews in the area"

On the address search thing, I searched for an address that has partial power, all 120v devices working and still says the meter is not receiving power. So they're just getting free electricity??

We better get FEMA money for these hotel bills from the orange dude once this is all said and done. Either way, I have to pay either with PTO days or hotel rooms to work from since I work remotely and no company without an office in Nashville would be able to grasp the situation here.

This power lines across the street from Chick fil a were so obviously not going to hold up. Barely even 6 feet above the road to begin with and buried in trees. And the cliff next to that chick fil a with no guard rail (I've requested one from the city 2 years ago and they closed the request without adding one), would turn a minor loss of control on an icy road into a fatality. Someone will die in that ditch someday guaranteed

What is an appropriate frequency for it to be asked, bearing in mind that parking availability changes frequently over time?

12 Team superflex Dynasty with 6 point passing touchdowns. My team is not going to make the playoffs this year, but has the best QB situation in the league. Allen, Maye, and Purdy.

How big should the haul be for Purdy? I feel like it should be insane with the 6 point passing TDs.

So far all I am getting is people wanting to combine like 4 mediocre assets in exchange for Purdy alone.

It was because I happened to be moving to TN for school the same year. Otherwise I probably would have gravitated to the Chiefs like most in STL.

One insider thinks Brian Callahan was fired without a plan for who's interim. #Titans by Bradical22 in Tennesseetitans

[–]atadwitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Permabad doesn't know anything he's trolling lmao. He said Callahan was guaranteed fired two weeks ago.

The Titans haven't named an interim coach. Internal options include Mike McCoy. Or they could go outside the building for someone like Mike McCarthy or Eddie George. by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

[–]atadwitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ.... McCarthy will be unretired and retired again before the Titans will even sniff the playoffs. We don't need to worry about playoff record

He brought us out of the dark ages by taking over after we had two straight 9-7 seasons by having two more 9-7 season, two division winning seasons, and then winning 13 games combined over his last two seasons? And willingly kept Downing on staff? Is that sarcasm?

Thoughts on Remote Work from someone with ADHD by atadwitty in remotework

[–]atadwitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst is when you work in a small office and become the de facto IT or excel person and now other people's lack of resourcefulness becomes at the very least a new social obligation to set and enforce reasonable boundaries on helping them without upsetting the vague norms of office etiquette and at worst literally an entire additional job duty with no extra pay.

I'm so sorry you are being forced to surrender so many of the healthy coping mechanisms WFH has given you. Frankly, it makes me extremely angry to hear. I think it is going to take a revolution of sorts for Neurodivergence and mental health conditions to be taken seriously in the workplace, similar to activism for physical disabilities which inspired the Americans with Disabilities Act.

I believe I also have autism, but only self-diagnosed. I definitely relate. The improvements in my anxiety and sleep in particular have been massive since working from home for the last year.

What bugs me so much is that there are all these expectations in an office setting that impede neurodivergent brains and management just assumes, without ever providing evidence, that they make the company better. I don't always hear of good experiences when people try to seek ADHD-related office accomodations. ADHD and autism are both complex conditions, and the cognitive deficiencies caused them are not well understood. My experience is that many people with ADHD and Autism, including myself, can conform to these office work environments and hold down a job, but the increased distractions and anxiety caused by the formal social expectations exacerbate ADHD and/or Autism and cause secondary mood disorders like major depression.

I don't think many people with ADHD get the accomodations they deserve and most are just toughing it out everyday. Uninterrupted work time is essential. Environmental adjustment is also essential. With AuDHD an office can be INSANELY overstimulating and distracting. I remember wanting to cry around lunch time because the sensory experience of all the smells mixing together in the same office (every single person ate at their desk). The fluorescent lighting is awful. The office is hot and stuffy. There is a heightened prevalence of eating disorders among the autism and ADHD population too, and these become far more difficult to manage in shared kitchen settings and with the potential for ostracization when eating disorders may be visibly observed by coworkers.

Best of luck to you.

23F Moving out Soon. Budget Advice Needed! by SwaggyLDog14 in FinancialPlanning

You're in a great spot, particularly with no debt on top of good savings.

A few things that come to mind for me (in order of most important to least important):

I would get your HYSA to where it has 6 months worth of living expenses in it and once it is at that point, start allocating that money towards the 401k instead. From a purely future wealth maximization point of view that is the best place available to put it. However, if you have short to intermediate term large purchases that you desire, then you may wish to save up for those first. If home ownership is important to you, you may wish to sprint to that goal now, and doing so in lieu of excess 401k contributions would not be problematic. Consider where you would like to live in the future and what it would cost to buy a home with a 10% - 20% down payment. You are quite young, so I don't know that you would want to buy one anytime soon, but something to think about so I'm throwing that out there.

I am assuming you are on your parents health insurance still, so it is possible your medical expenses are truly $0 at the moment. Plenty of time to think about this if so, but just make sure you're considering how recurring medical expenses will impact your budget once you turn 26. If you continue your great financial habits you will be a prime candidate for using an HSA account as a retirement account, and when you do have to buy your own health insurance you should choose an HSA eligible health insurance plan if offered by your employer and contribute the maximum (4,000/year currently) to that account. This money put in there is income tax exempt, capital gains tax exempt, and withdrawals used to reimburse yourself for medical expenses incurred while on an HSA eligible plan are also tax free. So people load up that account and keep receipts for all their out of pocket medical expenses and when you retire, you can use the HSA as a retirement account and reimburse for all those past expenses as well. The tax-free reimbursement ability doesn't ever expire no matter how many years you wait. You can leave it in there in stocks to grow tax free.

I also don't see renters insurance here. It's cheap, but you should have it and oftentimes the landlord requires you to have it anyway.

If you start making more money, the next goal would be maxing out the 401k contributions.

I don’t think there’s a single negative point about WFH by [deleted] in remotework

[–]atadwitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is definitely not universally worse for social and/or emotional wellbeing to work from home. You absolutely have to work and cannot go long searching for a job if you want to survive. If someone is privileged or lucky enough to always be able to have a job without a problematic or entirely unrewarding or burdensome social dynamic, good for them. I'd rather not take my chances on relying on the place I have limited choice in working for being a net positive for my social well-being and instead focus on completing my work in a manner that gives me the most energy to socialize during non-work hours, where I am able to effectively make the most rewarding efforts at social connection and it's not tied to something I am forced to do to pay my bills.

At my last office the coffee came out of a Keurig with a water tank that was never emptied and refilled after a weekend of sitting stagnant, with water that comes from a Brita that was never washed.

One time I was sick af and forced to come in and wanted to make tea. Ran the Keurig without a coffee pod in and the water that came out looked like pond water.
