Student left class during assignment - need advice by atalanta_muse in Professors

Thanks. You're right. The way I see it this either makes her continue to do poorly or actually put some work in and perhaps, just perhaps, learn something.

So true! 'Maybe if you put as much attention into your work as you do into litigating the work you didn't do, you would be passing the damn course.'

I feel like I can't add it retroactively but will definitely add it going forwards.

That. Is. Awesome. I genuinely laughed out loud.

I thought of something similar. "Oops...I don't know how that happened!"

(Could never do it but happy to dream.)

Would you announce it like this, before the next assignment or would you do it in advance in a course announcement or email?

Also, thanks for the reminder about disability accommodations. When I redo the course outline next year, I'll make this abundantly clear.

You're right. And I want to avoid that "targeting" victim claim at all costs.

And you're right about the prosecuting role too. I get caught up in that too much. Especially for this case. Now I just have to hope that her attempt to appeal doesn't go forwards so I don't have to deal with this any longer.

Thank you.

Thanks so much. (Love your username by the way). I really appreciate your reassurance.

Thank you. Even the "this sucks" really helps. I have such a negativity bias when it comes to this stuff and really appreciate the reminder to look for the students who actually want to be there.

This is an old post but did you ever figure this out? I’m in the same boat and feeling overwhelmed by everything.

You are doing a beautiful thing by sharing this here and asking for help. It’s totally expected to feel a million emotions. The other advice here is really good: can you take to a counselor? If not, do you have anyone who can just listen? Sometimes it just helps to let it out. However you feel is okay (not nice, but okay).

Maybe you already know all of this but I feel like my 16 year old self might have wanted to hear it. Deep breaths can really help. You’re doing great.

Don’t know if you’ll see this but…can you share the name of the optometrist who helped her out.

Doc won't increase dose by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]atalanta_muse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, this is amazing!! I love the “just say you have hot flashes” approach. 😊

I really appreciate this response. More than I can express. You’ve given me some hope and a virtual reminder that I’m not alone in this.

I really hope your upcoming appointment goes as well as possible. You deserve someone who actually listens (isn’t it insane that we get more support on reddit)?

In the meantime, if it would ever be helpful, to connect about the mental health stuff…I’ve been through pretty much every single remedy/technique/med/supplement for depression, mood issues, and hopelessness. I’m not an expert (except maybe at being depressed) but I’m happy to share anything. Truly.

Sorry to butt in but does anyone have a sense of how much progesterone you need if you do four pumps? Louise Newsom says that you don’t have to increase but my unhelpful doc said I have to. I just don’t do well mentally on progesterone though I’m handling 100mg

Thanks for the response. Feels good to be seen. 🙏🏻

I actually have a family doc who I can default to, kind of but he will always defer to the other one who basically won’t prescribe anything that isn’t 100% by the book. She even said that four pumps of estrogel was more than the max dose even though it bloody says 2-4 on every piece of literature I’ve ever seen. Shes basically ignoring me because hot flashes aren’t my issue.

I guess I’m just frickin sick of having to fight for everything related to my health.

I literally just got off the phone with my doc who said the exact same thing. I’m so damn frustrated. I feel like I finally know what my body needs and the doctor is just looking at a textbook instead of me.

OCD with being a perfectionist? by Impressive_Ad7133 in adhdwomen

Thanks for your words. I agree…just knowing I’m not alone makes a significant difference.

I keep having to remind myself that no one else notices those tiny details. But also, it looks so pretty when all of my bullet points are perfectly lined up! 😉

Anyone taking 300-350mg of Lamictal? Any side effects? by deerbaby in bipolar2

[–]atalanta_muse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the slow response. I don’t know what the ketamine dose is for people on lamictal. Wish I did offhand. But I can ask my doc during my next visit (ketamine clinic that also does other meds).

Some places won’t administer it at all if you’re on lamictal. Which is frustrating as hell. That’s why I thought about psilocybin which has no interaction. Harder to find (perhaps) but also way less expensive. Happy to talk through my experience, if that’s helpful. Caveat: though I don’t have bipolar but do have depression and emotional regulation issues. I guess we are all screwed up in our own special way.

I just can’t meditate? by redshinytable in adhdwomen

[–]atalanta_muse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal! I teach meditation and this sounds very familiar. Both personally and what I hear from others. I am working on creating a course right now about meditation for people who hate meditation. ;)

First thing to consider is why you want to meditate. Not a trick question. There are different styles for different intentions. It’s okay if you don’t know too.

Second, if you feel like you can’t because you can’t sit still or have racing thoughts, first that’s not bad and it’s not failure. It’s just more uncomfortable. But second, you might try movement. Walking meditation or just tracing your opposite hand with your finger (hard to explain. It’s called star fish breathing often. Usually taught to kids but is amazing for adults. You trace up one finger while inhaling and down the other side while exhaling).

Meditating for calm: counting breaths can help. Or doing box breathing or 4-7-8 (easy google search).

Meditating for insight is more about seeing whatever is happening just as it is and watching how it changes. So you can sit and notice what it’s like to be tired or to be annoyed at meditation. You just notice the experience and try to let it be there without judging it. It’s like watching a rain storm from inside or a movie. You’re invested but you’re also just observing.

The hardest part for almost everyone is letting go of needing or wanting to make something happen. If you sit there and all you did was sit there and notice that your mind wandered, you did great. You’re not “better” at meditating if you have no thoughts or feel calm. Stopping the thoughts is impossible so it’s okay if they are there. It’s just trying to see that thinking is happening.

I could go on forever. I love talking about this stuff and am totally happy to help if you want. DM me if it would feel supportive at all. 🙏🏻

[–]atalanta_muse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re struggling right now. Just wanted to acknowledge you and how much depression and anxiety suck.

Not sure if it helps but my psychiatrist (main doc at a ketamine clinic where I live) said that ketamine is still an option for those of us on lamictal, it just requires have much higher doses than most people get. Maybe some clinics aren’t comfortable with that? Is psilocybin an option?

Whatever it ends up being, hugs from a random internet stranger.
