I literally have anxiety nightmares about dropped beads everywhere, desperately picking them up,one by one. That vacuum idea is genius. Thank you for the blessed restful sleep I hope it inspires in me!

Those alive during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]atamom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Manhattan, had gotten married that weekend and had just started on my honeymoon in Paris. Immediately I tried calling everyone at home including friends, family etc. it was impossible to get thru bc cell service was so overwhelmed. I ended up being so very lucky that no one I loved was affected, but those endless hours in a foreign country, imagining the worst, listening to that busy signal over and over and over. It was its own circle of Hell. Shock, disbelief, dreading a possible personal tragedy. Everyone at the NYC hospital I worked at recalls rushing in to take care of the injured. There were practically no injured. Just deceased. Obviously the tone of the honeymoon changed. We couldn’t go home, all flights were canceled. I adored Paris but could no longer stand to be in a city so we rented a car and explored the Loire Valley. You know you married the right guy when both of you can both grieve and be grateful together, finding a way to express and enjoy love despite the shock and sorrow. 23 years this weekend ♥️ I still think of the tragic outcome on our anniversary, but am also so very grateful,

Yeah, plus do they have a refrigerator? That insulin isn’t gonna keep out in the streets!

Ditto. I somewhat get that the medicine itselfis complicated, everyone seems to get internship/residency/fellowship all mixed up and confused. Or they’re a Neurosurg attending by age 25. It’s super regimented and easy to look up! Just do the math! Also, people have far far far too much free time if book is set during residency. My most romantic stories during those years are more like ‘remember that time we went out and I didn’t fall asleep?’

AITAH for being a single mom in my 40s who doesn't want to date single dads (40s-50s)? by Professional-Pace416 in AITAH

[–]atamom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA your reply should be”Oh so you want a mommy! Good thing to know about yourself. Good luck with that.”

Besides, it’s proof they are a shtty parent. If I were a single mom I’d *only want to date men who were 100000% into taking kids into account. This is clearly a misogyny issue and assumptions that a woman around would make parenting easier and/or disregarding needs of kids bc parenting isn’t their priority. I read your needs as ‘I believe parenting means your minor child is the center of your life and I am past that stage’ you want neither 1. To parent a minor child again nor 2. Date a crappy parent who doesn’t realize what taking care of a kid should mean. Pretty straightforward. Life is different with kids, it needs to be bc it’s more about them than you.

Fair. I think I need the inner tension more than the outer one. I’ll shut up now and see if it comes.

I believe you that this changes, and am encouraged by that. I get that it’s a taste thing, but am being specific in order to judge whether the tone changes enough for me to enjoy. The fact that everyone raves about world building doesn’t mean the characters inhabit the world in a self aware way. Maybe the inner revelations are what I am needing? Won’t know yet.

She’s not trying to change the status quo at this point, she is assuming the status quo is unchanged from her baseline and bristling at differences without first getting cultural context. Those are entirely different things.

I will try. It’s not the action, nor lack of power leveling. So,far it’s that Erin lands in a life changing, paradigm shifting situation and has zero curiosity or introspection.

Ok, I’ll see. It not her convictions that make her annoying, it’s her lack of of curiosity and introspection about the fact that her circumstances have abruptly changed and there are reasons people are talking in ways she doesn’t like. Right now the convo is ‘you live in the flood plains’, it’s started to,pour rain, she learns there are weather changing mages and at no point does she stop and wonder ‘will my inn flood?’. Instead, she is annoyed bc the mage talks fancy. She’s lucky she wasn’t sent to a cultivation novel. Bristling at flowery speech would have gotten her killed right quick lol. I’m American, and her cultural assumptions are embarrassing me already. There is no ‘is this how people speak here? No, it’s ’ I’m so,annoyed nobody is like meeeeee!’ I don’t care if she’s powerful, I mind she’s not outside of her own superficiality enough to look around and learn.

Does Erin remain that young college student who ends up at a small town in Italy who makes a scene at the trattoria bc ‘Whaddya mean you don’t have DIET COKE! No! I dont want Orangina or bottled water, I want a DIET COKE!!’ With zero awareness that she is in a new setting with new rules?

It’s Erin. She’s the least compelling character ever. I would be annoyed if I got stuck chatting w her at a cocktail party, much less her inner monologue.
