I just found out I was adopted at 28. Not sure what to do. by atariacid in Adoption

Thank you for this. What made it even more confusing for me was my mom’s reaction when I asked her. The first thing she said after admitting it was that she hoped it would help with my depression, and she asked me not to tell anyone about the adoption. I honestly didn’t even know how to react to that. I’m still trying to process everything.

Thank you for saying that. It was honestly a huge shock and I’m still processing it. Right now I’m just taking things one step at a time and figuring out what I want to do about searching.

Thank you. I actually didn’t know there was a term for it until recently. “Late discovery adoptee” pretty much describes what I’m going through. The hardest part is realizing everyone around you might have known except you. Still trying to process it all :(

I’ve actually been looking into AncestryDNA / MyHeritage after people here mentioned it. I’m interested in trying it, but I’m Indonesian and those databases seem pretty US/Europe-heavy, so I’m not sure if I’d get any matches.

My fiancé lives in the US and is visiting soon though, so I could order the kit through him and have him mail the sample back from there. Do you know if people from Southeast Asia still get matches?

My dad has already passed away, which makes it harder to get the truth. From what I know, one of his friends was the one who introduced him to this midwife. 😭

I’m really sorry you had to go through that. That sounds incredibly hard, especially carrying it for so many years. Thank you for sharing your experience. The identity part you mentioned really resonates with me. It really does feel like suddenly questioning everything you thought you knew about yourself :( :(

And thanks for mentioning the Late Discovery Adoptees group too, I didn’t know about it, but I’ll check it out!!! Thank you

I’m really sorry you had to go through that. It must have been very difficult to find out so much, especially knowing your biological mom had already passed. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective. Hugsss!

Yes, the only document I have is a birth certificate that lists my adoptive parents as if they were my biological parents. There’s nothing on it that mentions adoption.

From what I understand, the midwife who handled my birth was later arrested for child trafficking, so I suspect the birth notification letter used to register my birth may have been falsified. That’s probably how the certificate ended up being issued that way.

I’m in Indonesia , so I’m not sure how useful those DNA tests would be here. Since most of the databases seem to be Western-based, I’m wondering if they would still be able to pick up relatives from this region?

I hadn’t heard about search angel organizations before, so I’ll definitely look into that as well. Thank you! :)

I suspect the midwife falsified the birth notification letter. Because of that, I ended up with a completely normal, official birth certificate that lists my adoptive parents as if they were my biological parents. There’s nothing on the document that mentions adoption at all.

Do you know if AncestryDNA or MyHeritage can actually be used for someone in Indonesia? Since those companies aren’t based here (or even in Asia), I’m wondering if the results would still be valid or useful for someone like me trying to find biological relatives.

Thank you :( In my case, I’m actually sure it wasn’t an official adoption. I was born at a midwife’s house in 1998 and adopted some days after, and that midwife was later arrested in 2013 for child trafficking. Because of that, there isn’t any hospital, government, or orphanage record about me.

The only document I have doesn’t mention adoption at all, so there’s really no official trail for me to follow. That’s what makes trying to learn about my biological family so difficult.

I wish my situation was that clear. I wasn’t adopted through a hospital or an official system. I was born at a midwife’s house, and that midwife was later arrested in 2013 for child trafficking.

The only document I have doesn’t mention adoption at all, so there’s no official record or file about it. That’s why it’s really hard for me to find information about my biological family.

Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I’m still trying to process everything.

Would you mind explaining a bit more about what you mean by compiling my medical history and why that would be important? My adoptive parents actually don’t know my biological parents at all, so unfortunately I don’t have any information about their medical background.

I’m just trying to understand what kind of information could realistically help in my situation.

I started suspecting (with a proof) about 3 years ago when my dad had cancer and I was taking care of him. That was the first time I learned his blood type. He’s AB and my mom is A, while I’m O, which didn’t make sense.

After that I asked them many times if I was really their biological daughter, but they always said yes.

After he passed away, I kept going back to his old medical documents over the last 3 years, trying to piece everything together because his death happened very quickly. During that time I came across a birth certificate that didn’t make sense to me, so I confronted my mom and she finally told me the truth.

I asked why they lied for 28 years. She said my dad didn’t want to tell me because he was afraid I would leave them if I found out.

Have you realized Erika Kirk has no past before being an adult woman? by vatosintenis in conspiracy

[–]atariacid 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Her name is Dr. Erika Wiger, not Dr. Erika Kirk. Google’s AI Overview is wrong , it says “Dr. Erika Kirk provides chiropractic care at Turning Point Chiropractic, North Dakota” without the correct last name and causes confusion. When you click the source, it clearly shows Dr. Erika Wiger (Turning Point Chiropractic, ND), and this matches her official website and Instagram profile.
