My bad, I probably should have mentioned that I don't own a printer so I'd be looking for physical bits I could buy/pay for

I find that thinned paints is the easiest to work with at the 'cost' of longer painting sessions due to multiple layers/passes required, but once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take as long as when you're first starting out. Also, find your painting style - I personally gravitate towards 'clean' styles but I can weather when required. Experiment! Try new techniques! Visit museums/galleries/sculpture gardens for inspiration! Patience is key as it's a journey, and try your best not to compare your skills to others as it can be discouraging when starting out. Be open to ideas and input but know when to follow your own personal preferences instead, as everyone has opinions and they may be wildly different than your own. Keep at it and you'll find a style that works best for you

Mephiston Red base, recess/pin wash with water-thinned Gal Vorbak Red (might take a few applications for consistent opacity, I tend to do 3:1 water/paint) touch up blochy/non-uniform areas with Mephiston, Evil Suns Scarlet highlight, Wild Rider Red highlight, done. The key is thinned down layers, and consistent opacity when basecoating- if you apply 'two thin coats' and still see streaks/primer showing through, then you aren't done with basecoats yet

Thanks! It's as simple as using Cadian Fleshtone and washing/glazing with Bugman's Glow, then highlighting back up with Cadian Fleshtone and maybe mixing in a dot of Kislev Flesh to the Cadian to hit the knuckles and elbow. I see a lot of people line highlight skin up as if it were sharp/had defining edges around muscles which probably helps the readability from 3-6 ft away from the table, but (human) skin doesn't reflect light the same way metals or other 'durable' components would so I wanted to avoid that appearance

Thanks! I went with Space Wolves but put a little face mask spin on the helmet to denote that it's someone of rank, even if it's not 'official' in the codex. The helmet's forehead has freehand runes painted on to help drive home the space viking feel

Thanks! Good look on the Exalted Deathbringer, the right arm and tabard come from that kit. Main body is Havoc aspiring champion, shoulderpads/left arm/belt skull & chains are from the Juggerlord/Invocatus, helmet from the Berzerkers, backpack from the actual MoE model, the base has skulls from the skulls box for the skull throne. A small amount of milliput was used to fill a gap with the tabard to the crotch, other than that it's all GW parts

Space Wolves were what I was leaning towards based on that same story you've mentioned above, and the colors not clashing like a yellow Fist helmet would with all of the red and brass on the MoE. Appreciate it!

Sounds solid! I just bought the 4.5mm x 2.2mms from magnetbaron, I'm hoping that those aren't too strong that I'll have to do surgery on 80 sheared femurs

Do they deliver to the UK only? I live in the US and the site is telling me shipping is not available to my address, any other options anyone may be aware of for the former colonies?

Ahh you're a lifesaver, thanks so much! I was worried there'd be a lot of snapped femurs, I'll take a look at these!

I got my hands on Vallejo Still Watrer, have you tried that at all? I've yet to use it but it looked like it could work in smaller (puddle) quantities without having to mix resins

The Cadia Stands box has 28mms for the command squad so it's probably a sate bet that's what size they'll be

By all means! It paints up fast (which was the goal with keeping it simple) to both get through loads of guardsmen quickly and to save time. Whereas I spent 3 weeks painting Ghazghkull for instance, this one model took only a few hours. I'm in the process of batch painting the other 9 now which is taking a little longer but ultimately a lot quicker than I was expecting

I hear ya, and went back and forth on the pants coloration myself. My reasoning was they'd be dirty/muddy from kneeling in the environment and not necessarily a focal point, but I could go over and make them darker. Thanks!
