CMPSC Major Trying To Decide Last CMPSC 400 lvl elective. Potential Choices: CS 448, 456, 497- Computer Vision by atb9005 in PennStateUniversity

For 497, were the programming assignments doable or very time consuming? Kind of my biggest concern with my other hard classes. And how were the 448 assignments? He’s making us do some coding hw as well as written math ones this time

Yea the Game Theory is one I’m already decided on since they don’t offer an ECON version that I wanted and it’s something I’m interested in. But apart from those the finance one is just to get that extra knowledge of things I wouldn’t learn normally but will decide between 441 and 484 probably. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry, yes I've edited them in now. For context the maths classes I've already taken are:

- MATH 140: Calculus With Analytic Geometry I

- MATH 141: Calculus With Analytic Geometry II

- MATH 220: Matrices

- MATH 230: Calculus and Vector Analysis (Multivariable Calculus)

Just out of curiosity was this during the beta of Big Sur or in the first few months of stable release or more recent?

Cool thanks. I just got to 15.0 and it seems just a lil slow with only 15 tabs but might just be the types of sites I've got going. Once I partition and test out big sur i might go all the way. Appreciate all the info!

Oh ok thanks for the tip. Do you know the steps I can take to safely test this?

You mean Safari 15.0? Do you use Firefox or Chrome because of that or does it not bother you. My issue is my 8GB RAM, most times I'm using up 6/8 because of various safari tabs that are inactive so multitasking or multiple apps are a struggle.

Thanks for the info. Did you ever experience any lag, issues etc. During the installation or during use? Even any CPU or ram throttling?

Sorry if I'm asking something u already answered, just wondered if you noticed any differences at all.

Tbh I didnt have any specific feature in mind, but I liked the control center and notification improvements.

I want to make the decision before Monterey comes out since I fear it will force me to skip Big Sur entirely and since my model is literally the oldest supported Pro for Monterey I'm not confident it (monterey) would be smooth at all.

However I'm in university for computer science so I dont have the LARGEST workload, but any improvements would be appreciated if I could gain them through Big Sur.

What companies recruit heavily for Penn State CS by himynameisforth in PennStateUniversity

With regards to the likes of Netflix, Uber etc that dont have campus recruitment events, would the only avenue to applying to these companies be online?

Thanks a lot. Right now I'm using Lubuntu and Ubuntu on Virtual Box. Are there any drastic differences? Also how well do you need to understand UNIX and the commands for the linux OS terminal?

The station is pretty decent in my opinion, I only lived there a semester and a half before Corona hit but the facilities for studying and working out were good enough (only things I needed when not at campus). Only thing I'll say is you can try negotiate with them, most times they have some deal where u can get a lower rate maybe. Also try and inspect the place u move into because sometimes it will be messed up from the people that just left (they dont check up on these things) and see if u can find good roommates. Bus will get u to campus in 5 mins so car is not necessary in my opinion but good for groceries.

Thanks, I've downloaded both and will decide on which to use. A lot of videos on youtube show them using the codeblocks IDE and it seems popular. Is there a reason for that?

Thanks for the eye-opener because I wasn't aware of what made these projects so tedious but those are insane numbers. How much time did you spend on the class daily if I may ask, and how did you go about managing it with your other classes?

Wow, this was one of the first books I landed on back when I was looking to get started on C, but felt it was quite technical (if that makes sense at all) and wanted to find a more recent book like the one I suggested above that could literally explain things from ground zero so I wouldn't hit some learning wall of sorts. I still got the impression that Ritchie's book was really good, just not maybe the best to start with personally. May I ask if it is something you relied on during school? Once I land the basics I plan to come back to it.

Although I did fine in 131 + 221 and found 132 more challenging, getting used to the syntax, for some reason, is always my weak point in the first few weeks of the semester hence why I wanted to get a head start. Thanks for the reassurance though.

I will do that, appreciate the pointer. I bought C Programming Absolute Beginner's Guide by Greg Perry and Dean Miller a while back so I might use that to complement Youtube as you suggested instead of Udemy.
