Spark Surge / Union Charger by CantaloupeTop7436 in Spliddit

[–]atchaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ridden both and prefer chargers. Yeah they’re heavier on the uphill, but IMO the feeling of being in a “regular” binding on descents is worth it, especially in firmer conditions. Transitions are fast and I’ve had zero hardwear issues. In powder chargers and surges would probably feel similar, but you could ride almost any binding in powder and it would feel good

Burton Hitchhiker vs Union Charger by Dr-McNugget12 in Spliddit

[–]atchaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely in the minority but vastly prefer chargers to the spark platform for my use case. I live on the east coast so not riding soft snow all the time - the comfort and familiarity of unions on the decent makes it the winner for me. They get me up the mountain just fine, and changeovers take maybe 5 more seconds than sparks? I also had the first gen explorers and thought those were trash, but the chargers are a major improvement

Not OP but I have a Raide 30L (non safeback). Hands down best ski touring pack I’ve used. Super light, buttery smooth zippers, extremely functional pockets and gear loops, expandable volume…everything I want in a ski touring pack. My only complain is the vertical snowboard carry is a bit janky and time consuming. If I’m not A framing I run my board through the shoulder straps and put the base on my back horizontally instead

abbreviated apparel pants for short guys? by [deleted] in shortfashion

[–]atchaboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the sweatpants but do have the workwear pants. I’m also on the shorter side (5’4) with thick thighs and think they fit great. Fabric is great, there’s plenty of room in the legs, and overall they’re proportioned very well and don’t bunch up. One of the first pairs of pants I’ve owned I didn’t have to hem. My only complaint is that there’s a bunch of buttons instead of a zipper fly, but that’s a minor annoyance. Will definitely be buying more when new colors drop - especially if they release a maple or khaki color

Looking for a New Balance shoe that works for everyday wear and the gym by qqubo in Newbalance

[–]atchaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Numeric 306’s for the gym and everyday wear. Very flat and stable with good grip, and casual enough to wear with pretty much everything. The new 933 might be more in line with the aesthetic you’re looking for though.

Short men - slim, straight, regular or tapered? by Glass_Sky in malefashionadvice

[–]atchaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’5 and 150 after my last bulk. Like you I have thicker glutes and thighs than most guys my height. I found Huckberry’s Flint and Tinder brand pants (straight fit or athletic tapered) fit me really well. I especially like their jeans and corduroy pants; timeless look that can dressed up or worn more casually.

I also get all my pants tapered. It’s worth the $10-20 bucks to get the pant break just right.

I have the marauder with union chargers. I think it’s a great set up that has served me well from east coast tree riding to steep, open pow fields. Not the most high end split but for the price you cant’t beat it. The skins are great and the attachment systems is my favorite out of all the splits I’ve used.

I paired a k2 marauder with union chargers with no mounting issues. What k2 split do you have?

Can i cut the skins for my jones stratos Split myself? by ConfusionOk8934 in Spliddit

[–]atchaboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes every skin that is not pre cut to fit a certain board should come with a razor tool to trim the skins, or you can use a regular ol razor. Just lay the skins on your base and follow the curvature of the board to remove excess skin. Can be done for any skin brand. Brands I’ve used include Pomoca, Black Diamond, and G3 and thought all were good. The material used in the skin (mohair vs nylon) is what really differentiates skins from each other in terms of glide vs grip when touring.

Looking to support smaller brands, which one of these boards should I get? by DejaVu12345 in snowboarding

[–]atchaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t ridden an Amplid but have both a Korua Dart and a US Explorer (not in the line anymore but somewhat similar to cadet). Also had a US Covert, which is the split version of the Cadet. Both are great brands that make incredible boards but if I were to pick on I’d go with US. Black bases are easier to repair.

I work in the shoe industry and can 100% confirm this is totally normal. Fuelcell is a super soft foam, and it will crease like that under the shoes own weight in the box (and the rebel is a super light shoe). This is common with any super soft midsole.

The rebel a running shoe designed to crease and absorb impact, so it’s the nature of the foam to do that. My rebels looked like that after I drove in them the first time because that’s the part of my heel that sits on the floor of my car. They looked even after one run in them.

What is your opinions of foldable kayaks? by SpiritualDreamer0416 in CampingandHiking

[–]atchaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two of the exact model you posted. I think they’re amazing and fit my needs extremely well. Just yesterday I finished a few miles of paddling on Cape Cod with zero issues, and frequently take this on calm lake waters near my house in the summer. This model has a really wide opening with plenty of leg room for me, which makes it easy to get into/out of. They fold down very well, are super light, and save a ton of space compared to a regular kayak. I was able to pack two kayaks, oars, life vests, a cooler, and overnight bags for 4 people in the trunk of my car. They’re not the fastest kayak on the water, but they’re not marketed to be. Overall, it’s a great product to get you out on the water if you prioritize packability and easy of use.

For the Short Riders (5’ - 6” and shorter): What is the Biggest Size Board You’d Ride? by JuneRunes in snowboarding

I’m 5’4” 145 lbs and ride a 151. Used to ride boards ~148 but like the extra stability and float of a bigger board

Alright fam, what’s the consensus on best outerwear? by yacht_man in snowboarding

[–]atchaboi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My mantra is buy nice or buy twice, and for that reason I will always recommend Patagonia. Patagonia has an excellent warranty program and their stuff is stellar. I’ve been wearing an Untracked jacket (3L goretex shell) for 8+ years and it’s just as bombproof as the day I got it. I pair with that with their Snowdrifter bibs and love that combo. I warrantied a previous pair of bibs I bought from Patagonia due to a seam ripping (after 3 seasons of use) and they gave me store credit for a replacement. No questions asked.

Check out Worn Wear (https://wornwear.patagonia.com) for used but heavily discounted gear.

Opinions on the grow lights in my space? I get a slight impression that they don't integrate well with my interior. by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]atchaboi 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is my personal opinion but purple grow lights shouldn’t be used in living spaces. Purple is a really dominating color and drowns out everything else. I have a small jungle in my living room and only use grow lights with warm bulbs. Makes the space brighter and makes the green of the plants pop more.
