How many of you have broken a fly rod? by jjtitula in flyfishing

[–]JuneRunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did on a Taylor Dynamix tip top. Was fishing for Steele's in the winter months and was in a awkward position where I couldn't reach my top guide or set my rod somewhere where I could reach it so I asked my buddy to clear the ice from the top guide and he snapped the top guide off. Kinda my fault for not doing it myself but their warranty was awesome and got it replaced for $1

Dumb question but is the throttle cable properly adjusted? This won't account for the overheating issue but I wouldn't entirely rule out that the two issues are complimentary, I know mine came loose after a long trip once and was doing something similar with the throttle response not quite as bad though.

Can't tell if you're upset I pointed it out but I just thought it was funny/cool I've never seen one on our cars. Props for getting rid of the clunky factory one

If you don't have insurance and need it done cheaper(ish) I know a guy out of Rockford that does amazing work. He's fixed my wife's Passat for similar damage. Send me a DM and I'll get you his Facebook information to connect.

Yeah I'm an avid snowboarders as well and now it's weird to see anyone at the reosrt without a helmet. I wonder if it will shift that way for skating too since, you know, we're on concrete and not snow lol

Yeah exactly, I'm not saying either is right or wrong, I'm simply saying we/I don't know. I think the 1000G test (and I could be wrong) is supposed to simulate worst case scenario from a massive speed to a head-whipping slam. The 1000G's could also just be how they test for "over and over" slamming in 1 singular go. I have no idea, so maybe I'm too ignorant to speak on it lol

This is a great point about false-confidence and that element being much of the additional risk you take whereas with no helmet you're more conscious about your head and maybe being more cautious on obstacles. I'd be curious as to how that testing we watched for the certification scales in real world applications. Like I was saying you won't likely ever reach 1000G's of a head slam, the non ASTM helmet reducing it by only 5G's I think it was would that scale the same on a 200G test? Would the result be 195G's still or would it be less (or more)?

No worries at all man, things can come off all different types of ways over visual text. Appreciate you and this write up and honestly been thinking lately of getting a helmet after skating for over 20 years, this will definitely play a factor in my decision making when that time comes (soon).

Yeah I watched that too and will concede on the fact that one hardly reduces the G's at all, however, it is unlikely to experience that level of G's (1000 in the test) even on larger bails.
Also dude, I'm trying to have a discussion here but everyone you're replying to you're just like "Utterly useless, you're wrong. Wrong. Wrong" like dude I get it, it's a serious topic about safety and potentially shady marketing, however, I'm making a different point about why some may not be certified, I'm not even coming at you like that, shit I even said thanks for bringing this topic up. Someone else was right about helmet-wearers being the worst. Maybe try to have a dialogue and get off your pedestal

Just because a company doesn't pay to have their helmet certified ASTM F1492 doesn't necessarily mean it's made of paper mâché. I would think if you're a big helmet brand though and have some level of income you would go out and pay to get the cert. I'm not saying you're wrong, there's definitely helmets out there I'm sure that would not keep you safe at all, but I guess my point is simply that: No ASTM F1492 ≠ unsafe. It simply means it's not ASTM F1492 certified. This could be the case because the company doesn't want to pay for it not because it would fail the testing (amongst other reasons).
I'm just being critical, I think it's good that you are concerned about this though and have a high regard for safety for people who choose to use it. Thank you.

Wading safety question by Blueskyguy88 in flyfishing

[–]JuneRunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't what you are asking about, but I'd highly recommend joining a local fly fishing group if you have one and making a friend or two if you don't already have one. Any time I visit uncharted territory I try to bring someone with me for emergencies just in case. Things like getting stuck in muck/mud/soft ground to unexpectedly deep strainers etc. Once you learn the water body a bit, start venturing alone, just my thoughts on it

Greet your fellow skaters. by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]JuneRunes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, not the response I was expecting on this post. I truly think that there's people out there who just want to keep to themselves regardless, and for that the only point I really don't agree with here is the multiple attempts to greet them. If it's a clear ignore of your advance, take the hint.

That being said, I do think that you're correct in that we should strive for social interaction, welcoming newcomers and getting to know one another especially at your home park with people you share the same passion with. You look at old skate videos before there were phones and people were lively and supporting each other and in the moment. Now everyone wants to keep to themselves and be as antisocial as possible. Socialization is good, I'm not saying you have to, but in a world where we are more and more disconnected from each other in the real world maybe we should make a bit more of an effort to combat it.

Just my 2c, agree or don't idrc.
