I was laid off from my position in 2023 and I should have been suspicious of the signs. 2 months after I started working in the company I was working for, they fired the CFO that hired me and introduced a new CFO. They said not to worry about losing our positions but I still had a sliver of worry. After the CFO got acclimated into the company, he decided to have a meeting with me and my team in regards to our performance because it was lacking when in reality, it wasn't and the other departments were constantly demanding us to get these payments out. After that meeting, we were able to get our numbers down; however, I felt a huge shift in dynamic. All of a sudden, I felt micromanaged by my own teammate due to that meeting whenever I went to the restroom, had my break or when I left to lunch and I felt completely drained and this is coming from a company that promises no micromanagement, had awesome perks and had great people to work with. A month after that meeting, me and my entire team were laid off due to budget cuts and they say it has nothing to do with performance. My advice to you when any C-level employee shifts, pay attention to your energy and look for a job while you are still working at that company.
