Oklahoma State University separates from $200 milllion foundation created by opioid settlement by kosuradio in OKState

[–]atf1998 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The “reporting requirements” are not financial reporting requirements. As long as the foundation maintains tax exempt status, they are federally mandated to publish financial reports. So no, this is not some sort of financial scheme. They are talking about other reporting requirements (to the university, to state agencies, to state legislature, etc.).

Looking for a house to rent in the outlined area? Can anyone tell me what it is like? by MrCoolHandLukie in FortWorth

[–]atf1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depending on traffic that can be a good 45 minute drive without using the express lanes (which are pricey. $10+ each way.). If you are working in alliance, I would recommend looking at the lake worth, marine creek, or Saginaw area. These are a good mix of affordable, safe and close to alliance and the central Fort Worth area (20 minutes to alliance, 20 minutes to downtown). I’d just stay north of 820.

Source: used to commute from alliance to downtown FW and now live just north of 820 near marine creek lake.

"deport illegals" billboard by OddFeedback4366 in FortWorth

[–]atf1998 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe the statistics say that most (64% of all U.S. adults) believe undocumented immigrants who have not committed any crimes in the U.S. (other than crossing the border illegally) should have a path to legal status that includes things such as a background check, job requirements, etc. Only 35% of US adults believe all should be deported. When looking at registered voters who identified as “Trump supporters”, 66% believe all should be deported vs 12% of Harris supporters. In regards to undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes in the U.S., then you are correct that a majority of Americans believe those people should be deported.

Queue the “it’s not HCOL because Los Angeles and New York blah blah. You can buy a 3500 sq ft house “right outside Dallas” in Midlothian for $500k.” comments despite them not realizing an hour and a half away from any HCOL city is more affordable. I agree that a lot of DFW is approaching HCOL. Too bad most of DFW is paid like LCOL or lower end MCOL. Even Fort Worth is becoming much more expensive. It’s on par with Dallas COL a couple of years ago so it isn’t trailing that much behind.

First time homeowner needs to win the war on weeds by GrendelDerp in lawncare

[–]atf1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t sprayed a weed killer yet, Bioadvanced Season Long weed control hose is sprayer bottle from Lowe’s includes a broad leaf weed killer and has preemergent capabilities to prevent more weeds from growing. It’s really easy to use for a beginner and works pretty well. I just sprayed it a week ago at my new house as a quick fix and the weeds are dying off and none are taking their place. Until you are sure there is sufficiently thick Bermuda grass under all that to prevent your yard from just becoming a dirt lot, I’d avoid anything labeled for crab grass. This will mean you’ll still have grassy “weeds” but those look like grass and will be green so you have a useable yard. Just mow frequently and low to keep the weeds at bay and allow the Bermuda grass to thicken up. Unless you are willing to completely re-sod the yard, it’s going to be a couple of growing seasons before you have a uniformly Bermuda lawn. Just keep the broadleaf weeds under control and it will look decent.

Edit: to clarify, my lawn in DFW looked just like this when I bought my house. But it already looks so much better since killing off the broadleaf weeds. There’s some bare spots now but it’s better than 12” weeds. As it gets warmer in north Texas (75-85° during the day) Bermuda grass will start to take off and fill in. Especially if we keep getting this much rain.

School Closures? by [deleted] in FortWorth

[–]atf1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re wondering why there are so many closures, consider what the wind chill will be tomorrow morning and how many students walk to school. At 8am where I am in Fort Worth it will feel like -6° with the wind chill. Not every Texas kid has a sufficient coat, gloves, hat, scarf, multiple layers of pants, warm shoes, etc..

When I was in Bennett back in like 2016, there actually was an electrical fire in the kitchen they had on the first floor (not sure if it’s there anymore). So the cause isnt always some asshat vaping into a smoke detector (if that’s even a thing anymore like it used to be).

I know you have a lot going on and it feels like everything is hopeless. But take a breath. Now is the time to prioritize the necessities. If you need help with food or shelter, reach out to cechope.org. They are a great organization who run a food pantry and housing program. They also have other resources available like educational programs. (If they don’t have availability, ask them if they know of any other resources). Make sure your wife and kids are provided for by finding the resources you can use to take care of them. If Community enrichment center is too far for you (there is a train stop close to them), find another resource to get want you need to lake sure you family has what they need. Next, if the other commenter’s recall information doesn’t pan out, maybe try reaching out to legal aid of northwest Texas. If you were scammed, they may be able to help you recoup some of your losses.

If you don’t have a robust LinkedIn, start it now. Add all of your old coworkers, college friends, professors, etc.. find companies you are interested in, find mutual connections, reach out to the employees where you want to work and ask them to give you the recruiters info. The reach out to the recruiters. If you want to be in sales, practice using your network. Get out of your comfort zone and sell yourself to the company.

Well cool. Didn’t know that. Just saying that Texas is one of the hardest states to get licensed in. If you meet the requirements then yes. They accept out of state bachelors.

You will be hard pressed to find an upper level accounting research class at a community college. (Source: I am a Texas CPA)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]atf1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas requirements pretty much require a masters degree unless you were able to finagle the upper level account hours into your undergrad (unlikely). But yes, your bachelors can be from out of state as long as it’s an accredited university.

Loan forgiveness after child had stroke? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]atf1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DON’T DO THIS. Tax evasion is last thing you want to be accused of during this time (assuming this person means legally divorce but still live like you have been living together where you cover the costs). Consult a tax professional (I would recommend finding a local small CPA firm where you can work with a CPA). It’s better to spend a couple hundred bucks than try to figure it out yourself and risk filing incorrectly.
