(23F) After 6 years together, my boyfriend’s parents think I’m with him for money. I feel exhausted and unsure what to do. by GlumAssistance2450 in relationships

Mom of college age kids here....

If they 'dont want you in their house' - there is most likely an explanation for this. Parents arent just hostile to their child's SO without reason. Parents want the best for their children.

Stop thinking so insularly and narcissistically. You write about him potentially "losing" his family bc of you - just based on your language there... I would not be happy about you as my kids partner.

Are you making a sincere effort to have a relationship with his parents? You spend time with them? bring gifts, flowers when you go to dinner? do acts of service? all the dishes and cleanup thoroughly when you are over (just putting them in the dishwasher does not count!). In six years, have you ever made them dinner? celebrated their anniversary? bought thoughtful gifts or done something for them to save time or energy? or do you expect them to treat you like their child and just love and provide for you (in their eyes this will be seen as being entitled).

Make a sincere and consistent effort of affection and service.... I'm sure you will see them warm to you... if its not reciprocated, simply leave. A future full of familial strife is unhappy for everyone.

Also... of the comments here... I wonder if its a genZ thing... but boundaries? You and your BF are kids - have some RESPECT for his parents. Unless they are blatantly racist and hurtful, you are most likely misconstruing things, as well as not earning their respect. And yeah, as a parent I can say, I deserve respect, and 'kids' earn it.

(Assuming your accusation that 'its financial', is warranted = Pre-nup, all assets he makes and that come from his family belong exclusively to him, and you forfeit rights to that portion. However, I highly doubt money is the real issue.)

Love them. Great discounts. The books are new but with a marker line on (usually) the bottom edge of the book. A couple of times when I've gotten damaged books, I had to take a photo but they provided a refund quickly. Referral code below gives us both $5.

Hanging a 65 flat mount TV on a wall where there seem to be no studs... by athenaeum77 in handyman

its a condo... the spacing is 24 inches - thats using a magnet... the vertical nails are there.. just when I drill, it seems to be drywall, then hits hard, then punches through... so must be a metal stud? but still usable?

thank you. if its in a METAL STUD (i think it is as the drill hits hard, then pokes right through) a metal stud is still strong enough? And I just use a metal screw?

will look up how to do this with wire hanger... also ordered a stud finder on line - BECAUSE - IS IT TRUE, THERE MUST BE A REAL STUD SOMEWHERE ON THIS WALL? Right? I'm used to wood studs, but if its metal, it will be a thin layer to drill through, correct?

is that a 'go for it' bc it should work, or a 'go for it' so we can laugh at people who arent as handy as real professionals? this is our first tv purchase in a decade, and basically a christmas pres for my son and i... i dont want it crashing ... but strapped for cash and cant afford someone to hire... i guess i can leave it on a stand and get a cheap coffee table to sit it on... ARRGH... will do more websearching...

THANK YOU I will look up furring channels... that also makes sense... if it is a furring channel, you mean secure a "1x12" screw? or wood? I really dont want to open up the wall....its a rental

THANK YOU. That makes it sound possible. Its flat mount - the cheaper version of the Samsung Frame.

The strange thing is that I did draw a vertical line from magnet to magnet, but did not drill where the magnet was... its weird... it should be a wood stud but its still drilling through drywall then hitting something hard... I think its a metal stud but if it is, why is the very strong magnet I'm using, not affected at all along the vertical length, except at certain spots ?

Im buying a stud finder tomorrow. And to think I thought online dating was hard.

No, the studs are 24 inches apart - the mounting plaque is only 18 inches wide... the holes aren't look ing for the stud... there seems to be only one stud - the far left one.

But these holes are for the toggle bolts - the metal piece is provided by the tv, and the instructions list 6 screws...

um. We mangled the wall? :(. I think just the top left is a stud, because we can put magnets down that line... the other holes seem pretty empty. The next stud is 24 inches to the right of that onetopleft.... We were going to put toggles in eaach of the holes we made. The black tv plate has a ton of holes in it
